ART BASEL Daring art by Latin AMerican and European Galleries

Overall the art exhibited by European and Latin American galleries won first place in my heart.  They  were brave enough to bring living artists or  what is know in the trade as primary market artists to the Premier Art Fair and their booths at Art Basel.  The USA galleries seem to mimic each other with the same old money producing names WARHOL, LIchtenstein , DE KOONING.  Although beautiful and dazzling and very big ticket and status names, they seem to be my-optic in their repetitiveness and seem to lose the spirit of the purpose for art.  Do they need to be taught? What happened to the old fashioned dealers who took risks Leo Casettlli. Tibor de Nagy and that school? We need more dealers that are about the art and the artists and not about the money.

thoughts on Art Basel

My name is Annamaria Capicchioni and  am an Italian American who lives partly in Miami beach and in Italy and I think that this enables me to get a  broader view on some things. My thoughts on Miami Art Basel  are the following: I  think that as far as marketing and organization is concerned, the event is fabulous and worth while seeing. I personally beleive that some of the art exposed is over rated and extremely over priced, but then again, if some people are willing to throw their money away on certain items  they are free to do so.After all it all amounts to demand and supply and above all marketing. I personally have classical tastes so I prefer to spend money on more tangible things and in Italy I do have some good pieces of art, but they are  by classical artists.

I beleive eveybody should be tollerant because  everyone is different and has different tastes, personally I have expressed my ideas : I would never throw my money on certain things exposed in this show if some people do and it makes them happy, good for them

art basel

In December Miami way

a feast for eyes comes to stay

rods and cones

find their zones

Art Basel( which rhymes with Nozzle NOT Basil as in Hazel)

makes its home at the sea

Tens of thousands want to be

Where Art fills streets, halls and such

One Can never get too much

Things you would never dream

Have center stage at this scene

Portraits, stills,photos group

Ask any artist, he's got the scoop

Frames filled with strokes so bold

Hoping soon to be sold

It's a first class wonder

Where the rich and their money are torn asunder...t david MB
