Remembering Gonzo

Outlaw_2 I'm sure someone somewhere had a more interesting life than Hunter S. Thompson, but I'm hard-pressed to think of who that might be right now. See for yourself in William McKeen's Outlaw Journalist, a biography reviewer Brett Sokol writes is "essential" to understanding the man and the myth, to remember that he redefined journalism long before anybody knew what a blogger was and that he was more than just the over-the-top character depicted in films and in Doonesbury (not that I don't love Uncle Duke.)

Gator You can read Brett's review of Outlaw Journalist by clicking here. And no, I'm not just touting this book because Mr. McKeen teaches at University of Florida (Go Gators!). It's not my fault that the University of Florida is in Gainesville, but the Gator Nation is everywhere.

Mckeen appears at 8 p.m. Aug. 15 at Books & Books in Coral Gables.
