Writing with the Florida Center for the Book

The Florida Center for the Book is offering a weekend workshop in January, a weekend of six writing seminars that runs Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Broward County Main Library, 100 Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. And yes, Feb. 1 is Superbowl Sunday, but fear not: organizers promise you'll be at home in time for the big game. To preregister, call 954-357-7401 or email tzimmerm@browardlibrary.org.

Here's the schedule:

Jan. 31

10 a.m.: From Fairy Tales… to Children’s Book Sales: The Magic of Writing for Kids with Gloria Rothstein. $30 in advance, $40 at the door

10:45: a.m.: Writing the World: A Travel Writing Workshop with Tom Swick. $30 in advance, $40 at the door.

12:45- 2 p.m.: Lunch break (brown bag recommended)

2-5 p.m.: Persuasive Writing in Uncertain Times with Michael Mayo. $45 in advance, $55 at the door.

2-5 p.m.: The Fast Pitch: Selling Your Book in 60 Seconds with Heidi W. Boehringer. $45 in advance, $55 at the door.

FEB. 1

1:45 p.m.: Shortcuts to a Great Plot with Joyce Sweeney. $30 in advance, $40 at the door.

1:45 p.m.: Bringing Stories to the Stage: a Playwriting Workshop with Todd Caster. $30 in advance, $40 at the door.
