Well, don't ask me. I haven't a clue. Neurologist David Eagleman admits he doesn't have any idea, either. But he's got an amazing imagination, as evidenced by his book SUM: Forty Stories of the Afterlife, in which he suggests quite a few possibilities in vignettes that range from amusing to unnerving.
The point of SUM, he says, is to ask the Big Question: "What are we doing here on this planet, in this cosmos? None of us has any freaking idea."
