Mclain “I’ve been absolutely loving The Coral Thief by Rebecca Stott. Set in Paris in 1815, it’s an ultra-smart scientific thriller that’s also a deliciously gripping romance. Our hero, Daniel Connor, is a medical student from Edinburgh who’s duped by (and later falls in love with) the beautiful and mysterious Lucienne Bernard. The voice and storyline had me swooning on page one, but it’s also superbly written. I’m not sure how Stott pulls off page-turning action and adventure that’s simultaneously delivering radical theories of evolution, but I’m all admiration!”

McLain appears at 8 p.m. Friday March 18 at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables.
