“I just finished reading The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith. I’ve read two other Highsmith books, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Strangers on a Train, and absolutely loved them. This isn’t a book to love, but it is a book to admire. It’s about a set designer, Therese, who works in a department store over the Christmas holiday. She falls in love with Carol, one of the customers . . . I loved entering the world of 1950s New York, and the scenes in the department store were particularly well-done.”
