Harper Lee says she didn't cooperate with writer; Penguin says she did

The plot thickens!

Harper Lee, reclusive author of To Kill a Mockingbird, issued a statement saying she had not "authorized" an upcoming biography of herself entitled The Mockingbird Next Door, nor had she "willingly participated" in the writing of the book, by ex Chicago Trib reporter Marja Mills.

The publisher, however, is standing by its assertion that the book was written with "direct access" to Lee, according to the Associated Press.
