Make a resolution to get your online image in shape

New year, new you? Let’s be honest: You’re not really going to start a diet this year. How about making an easier resolution: Getting your online image in shape.

Is your LinkedIn résumé outdated? Do you have Facebook friend requests in I’m-not-sure-to-add-you limbo? Is your e-mail signature lacking a link? When was the last time you updated your privacy settings?

Stop procrastinating on the little things. Book one hour to update your profiles — especially anything that pops up when you search your name on Google — and clear out the unanswered messages.

But in your online image makeover, taking care of the little updates is only applying lipstick. Some of us need an entirely new wardrobe, so to speak.

Read my Poked column in today's Herald for signs that you need a social media makeover and tips on how to boost your online image.
