Business on a bus? StartupBusMiami heads to SXSW

Can 25 strangers launch a business — on a bus — in 48 hours? That’s the misson of StartupBus, slated to leave Miami Tuesday and head toward the annual music, film and emerging technology conference SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin, Texas.

The Miami bus is among six others in a national competition. There are also buses of strangers leaving from New York, Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco and Silicon Valley.

Those who missed the bus can follow a live-stream video of the bus trip on StartupBusMiami.com, or by following participants on Twitter with the hashtag #StartupBusMiami, or via the main account, @StartupBusMiami.

The business ideas that come from the two-day bus trip will be presented to venture capitalists at the conference. A ticket on the bus cost $100. Admission to the interactive technology portion of SXSW, which runs Friday through March 15, costs $750.

But before they hit the road, you can meet the participants at the launch party tonight, March 7, at Sheraton Yankee Trader Beach Hotel in Fort Lauderdale from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.
