My Herald pal Barry Jackson, though he doesn't share my opinion that ESPN is the worst sports network in America, including local cable-access channels that show high-school football shot with home video cameras, has nonetheless compiled an impressive list of the network's failings. They include its nauseating self-promotion, its attempts to take credit for the reporting of others, its refusal to admit mistakes in its own reporting, its annoying and endless hype of events it's airing and its extensive use of manufactured "news" like computer projections of statistics in games that haven't been played. I'd add a lot of other things, starting with the poor preparation of its crews covering college football and basketball, and their uniform insistence on talking about anything, anything, other than the game being played in front of their eyes, and I'd add some suggested remedies, like sewing shut the mouths of the most idiotic blowhards like Chris Berman and Dick Vitale. But Barry's list certainly offers a good start.
