I've long suspected network programmers carry around a deep-seated loathing for many of their own shows. They keep it buried most of the time, but once it starts bubbling out, they can't control it. After CBS bosses canceled Miami Medical Tuesday morning, they pulled the machete out of its bloody neck and started hacking at everything in sight: Cold Case, Numbers, The Ghost Whisperer, The New Adventures Of Old Christine and Accidentally On Purpose. Reportedly they went after Gunsmoke, Beverly Hillbillies and Chicago Hope, too, but network lawyers warned them there was a statute of limitations.
