New Pet Book
Have you ever wondered what your pet is thinking when:
- It barks or meows?
- It whines or howls?
- It urinates on your carpet (right in front of you!)?

Laverne and Shirley
They're like book ends!! They're shar pei mixes, like my Yoda, who is a wonderful girl. Hope someone can give them a home.
Looking
for two lovely ladies!!!??? Well there are two waiting for you in Riverview,
which is in the Tampa area. Meet
Laverne and Shirley!
In
February 2008 the Santa Rose County Shelter in Milton found Laverne and
Shirley. These two beautiful ladies were strays wondering the streets. The
shelter contacted Florida Shar-Pei Rescue but because they were not purebreds
they would not be able to take them in. Instead Laverne and Shirley were
taken from the shelter and they stayed in a Shar-Pei facility till December
2008.
At
the end of the 2008, the facility wanted Laverne and Shirley moved. So,
Shar-Pei Rescue discovered Camp Bow Wow. The camp was contacted and they said
yes to fostering as well as looking for new families for these two girls.
So Laverne and Shirley were transported down to the new facility in
December 2008. The move was a shock for them since they had adjusted
to the first location. At the new location Shar-Pei rescue has provided
fees for the monthly heart-worm and flea preventatives as well as for updating
the shots.
It
is sad to say but there has been no interest in these ladies. In April Shar-Pei
rescue was told that they needed to move Laverne and Shirley. Since they were a
mix they still could not be taken into Shar-Pei rescue. The pups cannot go back to the shelter, they
cannot stay at the foster camp…they need a HOME.
Laverne
and Shirley were and still are lonely. They are loosing weight, not eating
properly and need to be in a home environment. They need a loving home, a
family that cares and will give them attention and lots of patience. These
young ladies have lost hope. They have lost confidence and trust…..they are
very scared that they will be alone for life.
These
two lovely ladies are patiently waiting for you to come visit and see if you
make a perfect match. Labrador
Retriever Rescue of Florida is working to find the perfect family or families
for these lovely ladies. They have only had each other through all of this and
we would like them to be adopted together but this is not mandatory.
If
you are interested in meeting Laverne and/or Shirley call 1-866-464-5227,
please listen to the entire message. Do not press any numbers till the end of
the message ….then press 0 and leave a message.

Handicapped Pets Foundation Donates a Walkin' Wheels Dog Wheelchair Fit for a "Prince" |
Prince, a 10-year old German shepherd with degenerative myelopathy, recently received a Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair that was donated by the Handicapped Pets Foundation. |
|
Amherst, NH (April 21, 2009) – From its headquarters in Amherst, New Hampshire to a family in Middletown, Delaware, Handicapped Pets Foundation recently delivered a Walkin' Wheels™ dog wheelchair fit for a Prince. Prince is a 10-year old German shepherd that lives in Middletown, Delaware with his disabled owner Teri Stone. Having recently been diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy (“DM”), a progressive disease involving the spinal cord, Prince is currently suffering from partial rear leg paralysis and has difficulty maintaining enough balance to enjoy daily walks. Teri, who adopted Prince from a German shepherd rescue group several years ago, wanted to assist her dog with his mobility while maintaining his quality of life. Teri has made a lifelong commitment to supporting both people and pets in their time of need. She is a single mother to her fifteen year-old daughter Vanessa and also has been a foster parent to more than twenty children over the years. However, Teri is currently out of work and has suffered a number of health complications in recent years. During these difficult times, Prince has always been right by her side. Recently, with Prince struggling to get to his feet, Teri had resorted to lifting him by making a sling out of a large bath towel. However, she realized that she could not continue to battle the progressive course of Prince's degenerative myelopathy without finding a more effective solution to his mobility issues. Teri's daughter Vanessa thought she was only joking a couple of weeks ago when she turned to her dog and said, “Oh Princey, if you keep falling down, we may just have to get you a wheelchair.”
Hearing her daughter’s comment gave Teri an idea. “Wait a minute, Vanessa. Maybe there is such a thing as a wheelchair for dogs? Let’s go on the computer and see if we can find one”, Teri exclaimed to her daughter. A quick Google search of the words “dog wheelchair” brought Teri and Vanessa to the websites of HandicappedPets.com and Handicapped Pets Foundation where they found hope for their loyal companion Prince. In her request for assistance from the foundation, Teri explained that she wanted to be there for Prince in his time of need since he has always been there for her during the past few years as she has faced a number of health issues and related surgeries.
"When I returned home from the hospital, he stayed right by my side - always watching over me, protecting me and helping me to move about the house," Teri wrote about her faithful companion Prince.
"It's a privilege to be able to provide the means for Teri and Prince to continue supporting one another," explained Mark C. Robinson, founder of the Handicapped Pets Foundation. Handicapped Pets Foundation is a non-profit that is dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of elderly, disabled and injured pets. The foundation provides mobility equipment to pets in need. To learn more about the foundation and ways that you can help, visit us online at http://http://hpets.org/.

Sad Story. Maybe They'll Survive
Beagle mother, puppies suffering from Parvo at Jupiter
shelter need help
By ANDREW MARRA
Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
Friday, April 17, 2009
JUPITER- — A dying beagle and her newborn
litter are clinging to life at a Jupiter animal shelter after being found
abandoned Thursday in a recycle bin in Lake Park.
The beagle, sick with
Parvo, an often-deadly intestinal disease, was moaning in agony in the bin and
surrounded by her days-old puppies when a man taking out trash found them.
The man brought them to Safe Harbor Animal Hospital in Jupiter, where
the mother is now being fed by an IV tube and the puppies are recuperating in
incubators.
Executive Director Kay-Lynette Roca said the puppies' only
hope of survival is if it turns out they are not infected with their mother's
illness or if the virus doesn't break.
"The question is going to be, are
they going to break with the virus?" she asked.
She said the puppies
appear to be pure-bred beagles and will be attractive adoptees if they recover.
The shelter said the cost of caring for the animals is crippling since
donations have plummeted 70 percent recently.
"If we don't have the
money coming in on the back end we can't keep doing what we do," Roca said.
Anyone interested in adoptions or making donations can call the center
at (561) 747-5311.
