Prom dress is criminal
Houston school officials deemed Marche Taylor's dress too skimpy for prom.
She didn't get a chance to dance with friends. She left in handcuffs.
The fabric crosses over her chest, leaving her stomach exposed. A cape trails from the short skirt.
Taylor, left, even offered to cover up her custom-made dress, but officials said that wouldn't do.
"They didn’t give me any options but to go to jail or go home," she told KHOU.
Taylor said everyone liked the dress, but Madison High School Principal Aubrey Todd told KHOU it was a violation of school rules.
"It was revealing in such nature it was not appropriate for the prom," Todd told the station.
You be the judge.
KHOU's site says she wasn't charged.

What kind of parents would allow their daughter to leave the house in this outfit. There is nothing attractive about this dress, unless you are working the corners or posing for porn. This showed little class!

There comes a time when common sense has to prevail and Dr. Todd exercised the common sense this young lady's parents/grand-parents/aunts/uncle or even cousin-'em, did not.
There is nothing appropriate about what she referred to as a 'dress' being worn anyplace but to a brothel.
And yes, I am unquestionably African-American.

Looks like she was getting to go to work at the Rolex Club instead of going to her High School Prom.

In my opinion you guys are such hypocrites. Everyone flocks in droves to see the latest celebrity in a new stunning dress prance across the red carpet. The young lady's so called dress is not anymore revealing than the aqua J-Lo number that was voted one of the most beautiful dresses buy VH1 and countless other publications, and yes I know everyone’s first response is that she is young J-Lo is an adult, but to anyone I say she is at least 18 and at that age we agree she is old enough to go to war and die in defense of her country but can't wear a dress that shows her stomach. In my opinion the principal actions were far too extreme as if we didn't have enough young black a children in jail lets add one more for such a stupid reason when a jacket would easily remedy the situation. Once again I call everyone of you hypocrites because you perpetuate the cycle that the young lady is caught in by deeming it appropriate when its done by celebrities I think at times we forget that not only does art imitate life, but life also imitates art so when you are quick to point the finger at her patents please remember there are three more pointing back at you for making it an acceptable behavior for anyone.

Open_minded_nMiami -- your mind may be open, but there's nothing in it. There's a time and place for dresses like hers, and it's either in a cabaret or on your wedding night.

this is the society we live in and it's not pretty. school kids are trying to emulate trashy celebrities or sleazy music videos. parents have lost control in most part because the media is force feeding us with the lowest form of trash, day in day out. it's all well and good to say that parents should teach their kids good morale values, and of course, they should but those values are being undermined by the immoral music companies, t.v. networks and print media, who take advantage of our kids non stop.

Very thin line between sleazy and sexy. This crossed the line to sleazy. NO CLASS.

The dress may have been inappropriate but to arrest the girl at her prom??? Thats silly! Send her home or as she suggested she would do, let her cover it up. The arrest was ridiculous...like politics, its silly season!

I'm sure she didn't go down "quiet as a mouse" into the moon light. Who wouldn't, with some sense in their head, not go home and change.
They way it probably went down is quite different than she comes across. Girls like that don't dress like that to make a quiet statement.

People, it's prom! The one night you can never get back, or experience again. What was her crime? Did she actually even do anything, besides wear a dress that was too revealing for some? Just because You may find it distasteful, does not make it wrong or even criminal. What type of person is she? What type of character does she have? This young lady now has a record because society deems her dress a "criminal offense". People as a whole truely need to get a life and pick your battles. No person has a right to tell her she's wrong except her parents, which none of the people involved are. If her dress offended people, they could have easily left, or even easier, dont look! She had just as much right to be there as everyone else. If her parents don't mind, why do they/you? Don't judge the action, judge the motive. Complain and raise hell if she was there to proposition someone for sex, not if she was just there to have fun. Don't take things so seriously, there are bigger things happening in the world than ruining someones life over a damn dress!

THAT'S THE REASON NO ONE RESPECTS LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL ANYMORE. I WONDER HOW MANY TRUE CRIMINALS WERE GETTING AWAY WHILE THIS YOUNG LADY WAS GETTING ARRESTED. WHILE I WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED MY CHILD TO WEAR THIST TYPE OF ATTIRE. THE PROBLEM IS THESE YOUNG LADIES SEE THIS EVERYDAY, EVEN FROM THOSE WHO SHOULD BE SETTING EXAMPLES.

I would not want my son to go to the prom with a girl dressed like that. Ghetto girl, has no values, morales, or character. And I am a black man. I teach my sons to runnnnn from girls who dress like her.

All you fake a*ses need to quit putting in your responses: "and I'm Black", "I'm Black by the way", etc., etc...because if you were there would be no need to say such a thing. If you ask me, yah some white folks or any other race who wants to make a comment but you don't want to come off as being to critical of a "Black" girl so you therefore state "and I'm Black"...by the way, "and I'm White"...believe that BS if you want to...

The real crime, outside of the ignorant hyprocrites feigning outrage here, is that she was arrested.
This hillbilly justice has to stop.

the dress is out of place for the prom. Her mother looks as if she was a teen when she had this child. No small wander she allowed her to go out like that. She's the one that should be locked up! If my wife allowed one of our daughters to go out like that, they'd all be looking for another home. Check that; I'd leave!

LMFAO...yah too funny, you wouldn't leave nothing Mr. Thomas, or maybe you would. But if you left your house/family simply because your daugther wore a dress like that to her prom...well, I wouldn't have no words for you.
Believe me when I tell you children do things we wouldn't like for them to do behind their parents backs EVERY DAY. I remember when my own sister would pack certain clothes, she knew my parents wouldn't allow her to wear, into her back pack. She would then go to her friends house and change. Then you have some parents who are gone to work before their children even go to school.
Its not always the parents fault. These kids are smarter than we give them credit for these days. Think about it, how many hours in a day do you, the parent, actually see and/or spend with your child(ren). Our children spend more time at school and with their friends and other peers then they do with us the parents. And thats a FACT.

Um...they did give you an option....the option was: go home or go to jail. You chose jail by your bad behavior. To bad you didn learn nuthin' in school....actin' all grown....

this principal was crazy. I wonder when he is going to bring a gun to school and start shooting the children. For you guys supporting him, please dont be surprised when that happens...
Posted by: J-Lo | May 13, 2008 at 12:08 AM
Brand4me, you can laugh now, but your turn will come when some crazy person, like this principal with some power gives you an option to be raped or be killed, i pray that you will never have to choose. Because when people are minding their business, it is cowardly to abuse your power to hurt them. What this principal did to this girlis worse than rape...

Dear Open-Minded: J-Lo was not going to the prom. That dress was too revealing in the Ho house. This is a parental problem, not a school problem. Just because men like to see flesh does not mean you show it to them. Have some class. I hope you don't wear such trash.
