The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested one of its own Monday.
Deputy Carlos Tanner (left) remains in jail today with no bond after he allegedly zapped his wife repeatedly with his department-issued Taser stun gun.
Tanner, 38, is a 10-year veteran of the department. An arrest report cited by the AP says Tanner was drinking when got into a fight with his wife. He pulled his Taser from his duty belt and shot it into his better half's abdomen three or four times, burning her.
Tanner was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence battery and is being held under Florida's Baker Act for involuntary mental evaluation.

**UPDATE: The Tampa Tribune has some new details posted online.
It says Tanner is a community-resource deputy, not a patrol deputy. He has several commendations, including helping find a stolen vehicle and tracking down burglary suspects. In October 2005, he was named deputy of the month in his Plant City district.
But on Monday, he allegedly held his semiautomatic service pistol to his wife's head for 10 seconds after he Tasered her. She did not require hospital treatment, police said. Tanner and his wife have two kids.
This is very unfortunate as I grew up in chuch with Carlos and never saw him act out of line. They only live a little over a mile from me. This is unbelievable!

I just don't understand why he was taken off the patrol beat. Maybe it was greed. Maybe the department deemed him as a civil liability, and didn't want to seperate from its money from some future settlement. Just plain old greed.

Ten years on the force. Gee, don't you think he would have been adequately evaluated at some point in time. Just another poor example of the type of people that go into law enforcement.
