A Utah man decided to steal a $500,000 fire truck for the ride.
While he tried to drive off in the massive rig he hit the horn.
The blaring noise alerted the firefighters, who were on a medical call at the time.
He tried to put the truck in reverse and almost hit an ambulance. Then he scuffled with firefighters trying to restrain him.
"Both my firefighters were engaged in a brawl with this guy,'' South Salt Lake Fire Chief Steve Foote told the Deseret News. "It was a pretty hairy scene there for a while.''
The 25-year-old man told authorities, he just wanted to get to Washington "to see his mom on Christmas.''
He might be spending Christmas in a jail cell instead - he was booked on two counts of assault on emergency medical workers, criminal mischief and unauthorized control of a vehicle.
