District Judge Tom Yeager's plea deal gave five of the "Jena 6" defendants (Carwin Jones, Jesse Ray Beard, Robert Bailey Jr., Bryant Purvis and Theo Shaw) seven days probation and a $500 fine.
Jones, Beard and Bailey were assessed an additional $500 in court costs. Shaw was exempt to court costs, because he stayed in jail for nearly seven months, unable to raise bail, following his initial arrest.
Mychal Bell, the sixth defendant, had previously pleaded guilty to a second-degree battery charge and received an 18-month sentence. Here is the story.

An off-duty police officer was walking to his car with his wife and two children when a man hit him in the head on Wednesday night, police Sgt. Tim Schmidt said.
The officer then shot and wounded two men in the crowded Angel Stadium parking lot after a Colorado Rockies-Los Angeles Angels game. Here is the story.

Bartender Karolina Obrycka said she can't believe Chicago Police officer Anthony Abbate was only sentenced to two years of probation.
Abbate was also sentenced to a forced curfew, anger management classes, an alcohol evaluation and 130 hours of community service for beating her.

Former Cleveland police officer, Duhamel Torres, 42, is accused of raping a woman while on duty in a patrol car.

In Japan: 160 residents of Tokyo's Akasaka district, an upscale business and entertainment district, went to court to evict gangsters from their neighborhood and won. Here is the story.
AP: This is the building in Tokyo where the 4,800-member Inagawa-kai gang, the third-largest gang in Japan, planned on having their headquarters. The neighborhood had them evicted.
