Elián, now 14, joins Communist Youth
Elián González Brotons, the young rafter who in 1999 made headlines in South Florida and the world, officially became a member of the Communist Youth of Cuba on Saturday. Along with 18,000 other students nationwide, the 14-year-old boy received a membership card in the Union of Young Communists of Cuba during a ceremony in his native city of Cárdenas, Matanzas province. In an acceptance speech, González "exalted the honor and great responsibility of being a militant in the UYC," reported the official daily Granma. Next September, González said, he will enter the Camilo Cienfuegos Military School, a preparatory institution. In November 1999, the boy was rescued from the sea and placed in the custody of distant relatives in Miami. Efforts to keep the boy in the U.S. failed and he was returned to Cuba in June 2000 after a long legal process. For the account in Granma, click here; in Juventud Rebelde, click here. BBC News reports it in English here.

Thanks for "following" this story. One thing, though ... it would be interesting if Elian somehow becomes an agent of change on that island.

After Elian was snatched, a young woman with an infant broke down completely and collapsed in the middle of the street. She cried out in anguish,"He knows too much, when he turns 12 they will have to kill him".
That's how her slimy Batistaista parents have filled her head with pure BS and is an excellent example of the character of the "Exiles" who have turned Miami into a crime infested pesthole.
Please, please Comrade Castro, take them back and send us the Gonzales'.

Is this the right age to expose a child to the Communist Party, which according to the Black Book of Communism, exterminated 100 million people? The Union of Young Communists in Cuba it is similar to the Hitler and Mussolini youth organizations. According to the late Dr. Armando Lago's 10-year research documenting deaths caused by Castro's revolution, there were over 100,000 victims in Cuba. The Cuban Americans were right when they warned the American public about what will happen to Elian after his return to Castro's Cuba. But nobody listened and the liberal U.S. media scorned the Cuban Americans.
