Cuban to Head UN human rights advisory group

A former spokesman for Cuba’s foreign ministry was appointed this week to head the United Nations Human Rights Council’s advisory committee.
Radio Rebelde says Miguel Alfonso Martinez, is president of the Cuban Society of International Law, was appointed this Monday to head the Advisory Committee of the UN Human Rights Council.
U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL),  was – pause here for shock – appalled. She says the selection shows the UN’s human rights infrastructure operates in a “moral vacuum.”
“It is outrageous that a senior official of the Cuban dictatorship has been chosen to ‘advise’ a UN Human Rights Council devoid of legitimacy or substance.” She said in a statement. “Martinez, a man who has risen through the ranks of a brutal tyrannical regime, should fit in perfectly in this UN body, which lionizes dictators and condemns free and democratic nations.
This decision comes on the heels of the selection of anti-Semitic Jean Ziegler and apologist for dictators, Richard Falk, as advisor and Rapporteur, respectively, to the so-called UN Human Rights Council.”

She says Washington should use its substantial donations to the U.N. as leverage to demand reforms.

The rogue US empire, which openly practices aggressive war, mass murder, kidnapping, mass detention without trial, disappearances, secret prisons and torture, and which comprehensively backs Israel's egregious human rights crimes, is the worst human rights violator in the world.

The US dares not even stand for election to the Human Rights Council because it would face inevitable humiliating rejection by the world.
