Comments by Raúl Castro to journalists at José Martí airport in Havana, after Jimmy Carter's departure. Transcribed and translated by Cuban Colada.
He is helping something that's humanely just – to advance the solutions to common problems. We are ready, but, as we have always said, without subordination to anyone, simply in equality of terms, ready to discuss everything they want – and what we want.
That's our position. We have waited years and years; we're willing to wait just as many years. I'm sure it will be thus. There can be no subordination like before. Otherwise, we wouldn't have made a revolution.
And the visit was good. And Carter is an honest man. Why, of all the presidents, he's the one who acted best in relation to Cuba. He didn't worry if that might affect his candidacy, his re-election. He lost a second term.
He acted with absolute honesty not only with us but also with Panama, with many other places and without any kind of [INAUDIBLE].
I think this was a good visit. He met with whomever he wished, declared – as you saw – whatever he wished. Now, you be the judge. To him, this was a private visit. He's not the president of the United States.
As president, he's the one who did the most, the one who installed the SINA – I'm referring to the Interests Section – and took a series of steps like the [eased] travel, etc.
