Arrest made in theft of cell phone from Girl Scout

Fort Lauderdale police say a South Plantation High ninth-grader was responsible for snatching a Girl Scout’s cell phone while she was selling cookies in front of a grocery store over the weekend.

Police say two teens approached the cookie table at about 8 p.m. Sunday in front of the Winn-Dixie at 3260 Davie Blvd.

According to the police report, one of the teens distracted the Girl Scouts, while the other grabbed the phone and ran.

The incident was caught on surveillance video from the grocery store. Detectives recognized the teens because of previous incidents in the area.

A 15-year-old, who the Miami Herald is not naming because of his age, was charged with grand theft. The other teen was not charged.
