Tri-Rail security guard shot by passenger in North Miami-Dade

Crime tapeA security guard answering the call of a suspicious passenger on a Tri-Rail train was shot Thursday afternoon after a fight on the tracks with the suspect at the Golden Glades Interchange station.

The wild afternoon rush-hour incident left a second guard injured, a suspect running through traffic and a quick-thinking Metrobus driver preventing the hijacking of his bus.

On Thursday night, detectives were still piecing together the series of events that let to the shooting of the guard and the suspect. Both are in stable condition at Ryder Trauma Center, Miami-Dade police said.

The incident began around 4 p.m. when two guards removed the man from the train at the Golden Glades Tri-Rail station. They had boarded the train to investigate a call of a suspicious man, possibly armed.

Once on the platform, there was a violent altercation between the guards and the suspect, with the guards and the suspect ending up rolling on the tracks

A gun went off and the guard was wounded; the suspect then ran through heavy traffic on State Road 9.

He tried to commandeer a passing Metrobus, but the driver did not open the door. When police apprehended the suspect near the bus with the help of Florida Highway Patrol, they found he had been shot.

It’s unclear how he was wounded or how many weapons were fired and by whom during the incident, said Miami-Dade police spokesman Sgt. John Barrow.

The second guard was treated for minor injuries.

No names have been released.

I was there. I heard two gunshots, maybe 15 seconds apart.

They need to put Police Officers on the trains, they command more respect then Security Guards!
