15-year-old drowns in South Miami-Dade lake

A teen drowned in a Cutler Bay lake while swimming with friends, according to Miami-Dade police.

Armani English, 15, died in the water Sunday at Southwest 205th Street and 80th Court, Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said.

The Homicide Bureau is investigating to determine what led to the drowning, he said.

When friends saw Armani sinking, they tried to help him but could not find him under the water and called 911, Zabaleta said. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue drivers located Armani and took him to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"He was like a brother to me and all of us. I still can’t believe the fact that’s he’s gone,” friend Danny Morales told CBS4.

Armani,a freshman at Coral Gables Senior High, was the son of a Miami police officer.
