MANATEE -- A 49-year-old Bradenton man escaped serious injury Monday when the car he was driving was struck by a train and pushed more than 40 feet down the track, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
About 6:14 p.m., David Martin Romero Pozos was traveling west on 63rd Avenue East east of 17th Street East, approaching a flashing device and lowered crossing gates signaling that a train was near. Romero Pozos tried to stop but failed, struck the crossing gate and came to a stop between the train tracks, according to a news release.
A southbound train struck the right side of Romero Pozo's 2001 Honda Civic, pushing it about 41 feet up on the railroad tracks and into the eastbound lanes, according to the report.
