From The Tampa Tribune:
Three St. Petersburg teens picked the wrong car to try and break into Tuesday night.
St. Petersburg police detectives were conducting surveillance around 6 p.m. near 26th Street and Second Avenue North, after reports of three teens attempting to open car doors to burglarize them, when one of the teens opened tried to enter one of the undercover vehicles.
Not realizing a detective was inside, the unidentified teens — two girls and a boy, ages 13, 14 and 15 — tried to run away, but were caught by detectives, deputies say.
The juveniles, who were carrying burglary tools, were suspected of other car burglaries in St. Petersburg, police say. They admitted to burglaries in Madeira Beach and Clearwater.
