Update: Two killed in late-night shooting

Two men were shot to death killed and two people were injured in a late-night shooting outside an apartment complex in Northwest Miami-Dade, according to police.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. Sunday night at Northwest 62nd Street and Northwest 20th Avenue. Police Spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said Monday that when officers responded, there were multiple people shot.

“This is yet another scene where when investigators tried to get information they were not getting assistance from the community,” he said.

On Monday, police released the name of one of the men who died: named Tyquavious Charles, 21, as one of the dead. The name of the other man killed will be released pending notification.

Ricky Hudson, 27, was shot multiple times and taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where he was in critical condition. A woman, whose name has not been released, was grazed in the head and recovering at Ryder Trauma Center.

Residents in the neighborhood milled around Monday, most afraid of speaking because of fear of retaliation.

“I heard four shots and then it sounded like a war,” said one boy.

Police Spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said police are looking into whether there are any ties to a June 24 shooting outside a Liberty Square housing complex that killed two people and injured seven.

“At this point in the investigation it is too early to tell,” he said. “However, we are not going to disregard the possibility.”
