1 shot in struggle over gun at SW Miami-Dade home

A robbery attempt at a Southwest Miami-Dade home led to a shooting Tuesday morning, according to early reports.

A resident was shot and injured in the struggle over a gun, according to reports. The shooting happened at a home at Southwest Miami-Dade at 99th Avenue.

Just before 4 a.m., police were called to a residence at 4201 SW 99th Court to check out reports of a shooting, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS4. When they arrived they found 24-year-old Andres Jose Fernandez with a gunshot wound, according to police spokesman Detective Alvaro Zabaleta.

According to CBS4: Fernandez heard a noise outside the home, grabbed a gun and went outside to see what was going on. There he found three people trying to steal his dirt bike. Police say Fernandez confronted one of the men. As the two struggled, the man managed to wrest the gun away from Fernandez and fired several shots. He then ran off as a second person came out of the home and started shooting at the trio.

Police said they don’t know if any of the would-be robbers were hit. The injured man was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

If you are going to shoot, then shoot, don't take a weapon out to scare people.
