Dolphins trade Travis Daniels to Browns

The Dolphins have just announced the trade of cornerback Travis Daniels to Cleveland in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

Daniels had been running with the second team and was seemingly en route to making the team until struggling somewhat Saturday at Jacksonville. Daniels, in his fourth NFL season, fills a void for the Browns because their corners got toasted against the Giants.

Daniels is already on a flight to Cleveland. The move pretty much guarantees that Joey Thomas, who had an interception Saturday, will make the team.

It also opens the possibility that either Chris Roberson, Nathan Jones or Will Billingsley will have a spot on the team. Jones is the favorite out of that group. He was working second team today in the spot Daniels had before the trade.

This week's return of Michael Lehan from a high ankle sprain gave the Dolphins three starting-caliber corners along with Will Allen and Andre' Goodman.

One NFL source said the Browns inquired about getting Lehan ahead of Daniels but the Dolphins didn't want to do that.

Dang. I liked him. Wasn't he a big fan of the Phins too? Thought I remembered that from the draft.

wat

This is why Ireland and Parcells with make a winner out of this team. They trade garbage and get a pick, that is amazing that anyone would even give up a 7th rounder for Daniels, he was terrible last year and most of training camp. If they got a 7th (or maybe better) for Daniels they might get someone to give them a 4th for Beck. They are loading up on the draft picks next year after a very very good draft this year. The draft and off the street FA's could produce 6 starters (Long, Henne, Merling, Lankford, Thomas and Carpenter). That my friends is a great draft.

When do we find out what the undisclosed draft pick is?? I would guess it has to be a 6th or 7th rounder...

When Saban came to the Dolphins, he ripped apart the DBs -- the most successful unit on the team -- and replaced them with his guys like Daniels, J Allen, etc. Getting rid of Daniels is another step away from the Saban era. Great move, if only for that.

Excellent! We get something for someone who would likely have been cut.

The Trio is awesome.

Merling won't start unless Holliday can't go. I doubt Henne starts over Pennington but he might get in there if Pennington goes down.

That being said, I agree with you Bob that we did a good job acquiring talent this offseason.

Any word on Boldin (he's asking Arizona for a trade) or Horn?

Ronnie Brown for Boldin next?

I'd take that trade. We can run Ricky and Parmalee...

Merling will be in the rotation with Holliday and Langford Roth may get there if he doesn't play some OLB in regular season. Daniels started his rookie season cause he's the only one that knew the defense. We need a NT through cuts case if Ferguson goes down we are exploited like last year.

then sign shaun alexander?

Keep Brown...no one will trade for an injured player. You do that, Ricky test positive and we have the same RB situation as last year: Cobbs and...Parmale(?)

Seems to be Jones already had a spot on the team as the No. 4 corner. The No. 5 spot is the one that's open, and that will go to Thomas, Billingsley, Roberson. I'm predicting Thomas.

NO Alexander No Horn No Glenn TOO OLD! Bouldin yes, maybe for Beck and a pick.

Shawn makes sense...as an insurance for Ricky...But Ricky is not going to F**K up this year...This is his last chance and he knows it...Plus I sold him a buch of urine he can use for the tests...LOL

I will never forget Daniels getting stiff-armed and knocked on his hiney...by a much smaller HALFBACK! His explanation? "So? Running backs lift weights, too!"

We should be thankful to get ANYTHING for a limp-wristed, pansy-sniffer like this guy. I don't care if the undisclosed compensation is a '78 Chrysler Cordoba with a lunched engine! Get him out!

This regime knows talent and they will get what they want for players. They don't give them away. Beck has been a bust and we have 2 better options right now (Chad & Chad). Daniels would have been cut, so whatever we got for him was a steal (Thanks Cleveland). Keep an eye out for cut-down-day fodder as this regime has many contacts and former players they like ready to come aboard. Go Dolphins!

Chris Nelson,

I think it's clear that Thomas has way outplayed Jones, so I don't know why you'd put Jones as #4.

My breakdown is 1. Allen 2. Goodman 3. Thomas 4. Billingsley 5. Lehan.

Lehan is at the bottom of the pile right now because he hasn't played/practiced and is still hobbling. Roberson made a couple plays against Tampa but stunk it up against Jacksonville. Jones also did not look good to me but he could beat out Billingsley and Lehan should move up assuming he gets it together.

Hey salGAYro, you forgot to mention what the dolphins got in return for trading Daniels.

cubancane, he said an "undisclosed draft pick" in case you can't ruh-read!

Trading Daniels is the final nail in Tuna/Ireland's coffin. Once again, a la Jay Feely, performance is sacrificed due to outspokeness. Daniels will be sorely missed, and this trade will haunt us for decades! Cancel my tickets!

I like the move... clean house!

cubancane is a total moron. It must be tough not to be able to read.

I like what I see. This could be an 8-win season. I think we're a big-play receiver away from possibly 9 wins. 'Looking forward to this season.

Management has done exactly what is necessary to a one-win team: dismantle it! It will be a good season for the 'Fins.

Good he was thrash anyways

Dante O... That has to be one of the dumbest posts I have ever read. The only reason Daniels was here in the first plce is because we was a Sab(t)an guy who knew the defense because he went to LSU under Satan. Let me tell you, he was OVER RATED, just like his coach Satan. Good riddance to one of the last Satan carryovers!

THIS IS FANTASTIC. I AM GOING TO EMAIL ALL MY FRIENDS AND TAKE TOMORROW OFF WORK! I WILL ALSO GET EXCITED AND POST TO BLOGS LIKE THIS AND PROBABLY GET INTO AN INFLAMATORY SCRAP WITH FELLOW BLOGGERS. I DO ALL OF THIS BECAUSE I AM A FAN OF A LAST PLACE TEAM COMING OFF A 1-15 SEASON AND I READ ABOUT A SCRAP HEAP PLAYER BEING TRADED FOR A GARBAGE PICK. I ALSO WRITE LIKE THIS IN CAPS BECAUSE IT MAKES IT LOOK LIKE I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT AND MAKES ME FEEL MORE POWERFUL THAN MY FELLOW BLOGGERS.I ALSO SUFFER FROM DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR THINKING THAT I AM MEL KIPER, WHO 99.999% OOF THE POPULATION DO NOT EVEN KNOW EXISTS. OH, AND 84.6% OF ALL STATISTICS ARE MADE UP ON THE SPOT. YOU CAN BELIEVE ALL OF THIS BECAUSE IT IS ON THE INTERNET AND THEREFORE MUST BE TRUE. GO FORTH AND SPREAD MY WORD, MINIONS. SIGNED SOME MEL KIPER PSEUDO GOD LIVING IN HIS PARENTS BASEMENT WHO DEFINITELY DOES NOT CRY WHEN THE DOLPHINS LOSE.

Let him rot in Cleveland just like Brady "can't win a big game" Quinn (aka the best draft pike the 'Fins NEVER made, the ONE thing we can thank Camoron for!).

LMAO - RahRah for President!

McCain is winning!

Would have been nice to get Kellen Winslow or Braylon Edwards for him but.... I would have taken the spare change from someones ashtray...thank you Tuna.

Good trade. They went fishing and cut the bait, too. Unlike past regimes who would have been too lazy to get something for a player who would have been cut. And so far as 6th rounders being garbage...there are plenty of 6 rounders playing well in the NFL.

I agree with the trade, daniels is GARBAGE ...
to RAHRAH, I need some of that weed your smoking !!!!...

I hope we get at least a fifth rounder for Daniels. Considering that we drafted him in the fourth round. I disagree with other posters here who think that Daniels would have been cut if not traded. I had the depth chart (pre-trade) 1) Allen 2) Goodman 3) Lehan 4) Daniels 5) Thomas/Jones with Thomas winning out based on his play. To me Daniels was servicable, never starter material, but adequate in a pinch. In my opinion, Jones has been a disappointment to date. Brought in by the trifecta I have not been impressed by his coverage or special teams play.

Rick Offerdahl - yeah right.

Holy crap.....

I'll tell you, anybody who was on the roster prior to this season should be worried. Nobody is safe. I like it.

Mike hunt did you ride the short bus your whole life. All this trade Ronnie talk is stupid. He is one of the best backs in the NFL, and even if Ricky finishes his career in Miami five years from now, you keep a player with as much talent as Ronnie. Let him heal completely and see how much he is gonna produce for Miami.

I think it's a good thing, probably will be a 6th rounder.
I think they'll get a 5th for Beck and when the season starts and other teams start to loose players to injuries they'll probably trade williams and porter.

They'll probably get another 7th for wright or moses

Manuel, this is an intervention...

Hooray!!!

Finfan in Idaho. Love what the trifecta is doing with the roster. It's about time they started doing this, the fins needed to do this 5 years ago. It was hard for me to think about chad pennington as the starter, when for so long I hated him. After watching him saturday, and the fins putting points on the board on two of his three drives and he hasn't any timing with the receivers yet, things can only get better. The defense is looking good, and special teams is a mess. I think they will be a team no one wants to have to play. The fins will suprise some teams as will rick williams.

When a team goes 1-15 is not only because lack of talent, it's also because the players don't have pride and self respect, that's way the trifecta is getting rid of everyone they can from tha season

Good move. He was Nick's boy anyway. He was only picked because he was familiar with Satan's defensive system at LSU. He lacks playmaking athleticism and once Saban left he has done little. He was only going to be exploited in 3 & 4 wide receiver sets. I'm sure the brass will add a CB and OT from another team's first or second cuts. How is Jason Allen dropping??? He was mistakenly flagged for pass interference against the Jags (it was Daniels with the foul anyway) then Crocker might move past him?? Is this nepetism or what???

Thank You Lord!!! I'm glad he is gone

I will join Tinshaker in the intervention... You don't trade a back, who will be comeback player of the year this year (Ricky) and is only owed $730k for the WHOLE season, and trust me the Trifecta knows this, and they love Ricky too. As for Porter, he is owed waaaaayyyyyy too much money for any other team to trade for him, this, the Trifecta knows as well.

He won't have to face Favre & Brady. Rothlisberger, Young, and RosyPalmer are pretty excited about the trade I bet.

tin,

how did u make the aqua vision work? tkx

i think it was a great move. daniels was a waste of a 3rd or 4th round pick... whatever he was...

harricane, it works for me because all my software is up to date. Like I said, they recently updated theirs when the put in that cockamamie 'full screen' thing a couple of weeks ago. The reason it might not be working for you on Firefox is you might have upgraded to 3.0 and the codecs have not caught up yet for that release. Since IE has all that stuff 'built in' it wouldn't have affected it. If you want to use it on Firefox, two ideas - downgrade to Firefox 2.whatever. If that doesn't solve your problem, trying downloading/installing the K-lite codec pack. Do a google search to find it. It solved a lot of similar issues for me as far as videos with no sound or sound not syncing with the image, etc.

Personally I think that Firefox 3.0 (as much as I love my Firefox) has been a bomb because the software companies did not get on board soon enough so we are still waiting for full functionality. Good luck!

Can all you techy nerds go find a star trek board to talk about your "functionality." This ia Dolphins blog. Talk Dolphins football you no-woman-having-dorks.

Whatever, its only news because hes a Dolphin. Every one else will yawn at this.

Look, I know some great players can be picked in the 6-7th round, but what are the odds? In all seriousness, 1%? 2%? When was the last Dolphins player to make an impact from Round 6 or 7?

Here's the only way this move makes sense. Do the guys below him on the depth chart that now take his spot perform better than him? Will our DBs as a unit be better with him gone than with him here. Personally, I say no.

Look, I think he stinks. He frustrates me to no end. But as a 4th DB, he was just fine.

Whatever, in the true end, this move doesnt mean a thing.

"Hey salGAYro, you forgot to mention what the dolphins got in return for trading Daniels.

Read the article moron. That info is in the very first paragraph. But I guess that isn't important to you, since you seem to be more concerned with spewing insulting comments. It's so sad that people have to stoop name calling to draw attention to themselves. I guess your mother didn't give you any toys to play with when you were a child.

Dan Carpenter and Davone Bess came after the 7th round, Scott.

RahRah

The 3:43pm post is the post of the da...
Ah hell, It's the post of the week.

Tinshaker -

I'd consider Jones more likely to make the team because he has more NFL experience to this point, has played at a higher level thus far and has more experience with the staff. Jones is a Parcells draft pick was in Dallas for four seasons. Thomas had been an NFL bust up to this point, had one camp with with the Cowboys last year and played in Canada last season.

You say Thomas has played at a higher level to this point, but can you really back that up with personal experience. Sure we both saw Thomas' INT last week and we've yet to see Jones do it, but that does not mean Thomas has outplayed Jones this whole camp. Something tells me very few Dolphins fans, if any, have really seen enough of Thomas and Jones this year to compare their play.

Jason Allen's ass is next.

Tin, Tkx...no....firefoz, i am on IE 7. Damn thing just won't engage.

tyrone-speak for yourself....i am married to a red-hot blonde european woman that is 12 years younger than me. i get more in one day than u do all football season, so keep my woman out of it.

Bess and Carpenter were undrafted guys who havent proven anything yet.

Carpenter may be a good kicker. Ness may be a good slot receiver. But I think people need to relax until the regular season starts to evaluate those guys.

Like I said, the only reason this move makes sense is if we get better as a defensive unit with him gone. Because I think its a safe assumption to say that a 7th or 6th round pick will most likely be cut, or will not make an impact.

So if Thomas or whoever steps up and plays better as a 4th DB (something I doubt), then bravo.

However, I cant see how this is one of those "addition by subtraction" moves. Daniels wasnt a starter, heck, not even a nickel back. But he was a pretty good Dime back.

Oh well, in the end, it doesnt really matter.

can't get my hands on my draft board, but wasnt donald thomas a late round pick? he is gonna contribute 4 sure.
