I'm at Dolphin Stadium, home of a team about to improve from last year's 1-15 record.
Just looking around and I am told that Jay Feely, who has been nursing a groin injury, will not kick tonight. Rookie Dan Carpenter will handle all the kicking duties.
The Miami Herald has reported that Josh McCown is not playing tonight while John Beck starts. Chad Henne is expected to play the second and fourth quarter in the report filed by beat writer Jeff Darlington.
Other lineup issues: Derek Hagan will start ahead of Ernest Wilford.
Donald Thomas will be the second Dolphins rookie offensive lineman to start. Rookie Kendall Langford will start at left defensive end for Matt Roth.
Matt Roth will start at strong side linebacker for Joey Porter. Phillip Merling will start at right defensive end for Vonnie Holliday.
Chad Pennington is at the stadium and has signed his contract. He is expected to be introduced, perhaps after the game.
Anyway check back often for updates. Understand that I am blogging and writing a column at the same time -- on deadline -- so I don't want to hear no $%#@&* if I'm not super fast with the updates. But I will do my best.
Meet me in the comments section at kickoff.

its got to be ricky right and ricky left.

MVP's of the 1st half, Ricky Williams and David Kirkus. That aint saying much. We gotta raise our standards. 2nd half is under way. Simms is the QB for TB.
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:07 PM
1st Half Highlights: Found out that Henne will be the starter and Pennington will make a nice backup since Beck and Mcown are both terrible. I say let Henne take his lumps this year so he is seasoned for next year's run. There is absolutely no reason for Pennington to be a starter here.

good blitze their azzs.

OK Phins get ball back. 7-3 TB. Who will be the QB?
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:09 PM
Ya let's run Ricky Williams left and right to win a preseason game and get him hurt before the reg-season... Pull him now and call it a day!!
Posted by: Mark | August 09, 2008 at 09:10 PM
didn't ricky average 6 yards a carry vs Tampa's 1st team D? Thats a good sign
Posted by: ye of much phin phaith | August 09, 2008 at 09:10 PM
Henne still in there
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:11 PM

thanks to wilford um won the NC
Posted by: mi@mic@9 | August 09, 2008 at 09:15 PM
Wilford is gonna get himself cut like this
Posted by: Mark | August 09, 2008 at 09:16 PM
Don't worry too much about the D. Besides the fact that there are some starters out of the lineup, they're probably playing pretty conservatively. Teams don't like to show much in pre-season on D and they also keep it a little more simple for the rookies.
Posted by: NYScott | August 09, 2008 at 09:16 PM
So far the way this is looking Beck will be the odd man out. Pennington starts, Mccown is insurance due to experience and Henne is the future....
Posted by: Pound | August 09, 2008 at 09:16 PM
Bucs have ball again. Atleast my beer is interesting(Landshark Lager)
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:17 PM
just worried about all the arm tackling.
Posted by: mi@mic@9 | August 09, 2008 at 09:17 PM
Man Wilford is just awful. What is up with this kids head? He seems out of it.
Posted by: NYScott | August 09, 2008 at 09:18 PM
Did they just want to get Henne a 2nd series, or did they switch the plan to alternate series between Beck and Henne?
Posted by: Maryland Fin Fan | August 09, 2008 at 09:18 PM
OK, 3rd quarter, still no big plays from Phins on O or D. Not one!! Also, the D is playing sloppy. Time of possession is starting to fall heavily on the Bucs side. They are toying with our D. We are lucky it's only 7-3.
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:19 PM
Wilford said after several drops in practice that he was a "game guy" and not a "practice guy". Guess he is really backing it up after two drops (was it three?).

Posted by: Alen | August 09, 2008 at 09:20 PM
the interior d is so mus hie.
Posted by: mi@mic@9 | August 09, 2008 at 09:21 PM
This is a boring Dolphin's team. No big plays. At least my beer is interesting. Pennington is spending a lot of time with Beck on the sidelines.
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:21 PM
man we need to take the ball from sims and run for d td.
Posted by: mi@mic@9 | August 09, 2008 at 09:22 PM
OK, Dolphins get a sack. Big play number 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:22 PM
Beck is a smart guy. He's probably trying to pick his brain
Posted by: Pound | August 09, 2008 at 09:23 PM
finally, yippee
Posted by: gee | August 09, 2008 at 09:23 PM

Posted by: May | August 09, 2008 at 09:25 PM

Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:25 PM
we are not exactly a scoring machine.

Kevin, WE KNOW YOUR BEER IS INTERESTING!LOL. How many have you had because it seems like you've burned some brain cells. You've repeated yourself four times! :)

Dolphins are young and learning... Be patient !!
Enjoy the process and have another brew.
Posted by: Mark | August 09, 2008 at 09:26 PM
Guys, sorry to be in and out, but I'm juggling this and writing my column on deadline. Meanwhile Rod Wright looking good to me.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | August 09, 2008 at 09:27 PM
All right, I have heard all the hype on our QB's...but if they cannot get us in the end zone then what good is the hype. Let's see a Phin QB get us in the end zone, and let's see some recievers step up and make some big plays. We have good field position to start the drive. Parmele in this drive.
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:28 PM
See, winning one game with this team isn't easy.
Posted by: Cam Cameron | August 09, 2008 at 09:29 PM
Penalty on the offense...backed up 5 yards. Parmele had a good run on 1st down.
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:29 PM
Penalties: TB 0/0, JV Cowboys 5/30
Posted by: May | August 09, 2008 at 09:30 PM
Drew--Cam is with the only team that managed the clock worse than him last year, Baltimore
Posted by: Pound | August 09, 2008 at 09:30 PM
Henne sacked!
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:30 PM
Cam is in B-more with the Raven, I wish he would have taken the Ginn family with him!
Posted by: ye of much phin phaith | August 09, 2008 at 09:30 PM
we are not exactly a scoring machine.
Posted by: mi@mic@9 | August 09, 2008 at 09:30 PM
By the way: My first half highlights?
Chad Henne is clearly a better QB right now than John Beck. Not becuase he is moving the ball better or completing passes, but because he doesn't look overmatched. He steps up in the pocket with confidence. He doesn't dance around. He's just smoother.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | August 09, 2008 at 09:31 PM
Big throw Henne, 1st down!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:31 PM
our third string is better than your third string our third string is better than yours our third sting is better cause we eat kennel ration. Our third sting is better than yours.
Posted by: mi@mic@9 | August 09, 2008 at 09:31 PM
Henne has the confidence because he has a big arm. He has teh poise because he played in front of 100k fans at Michigan.
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:33 PM
Look, you have to realize that Beck was drafted because of his missionary experience. He wasn't drafted to actually play football. The thinking was that he'd be really good at travelling around the world and converting people to become Dolphins fans.
Posted by: Cam Cameron | August 09, 2008 at 09:33 PM
Carpenter hits 49 FG and somehow Jay Feely has to be wondering where he's going to be playing this year...
Posted by: Armando Salguero | August 09, 2008 at 09:33 PM
I think Feely is sweatin!
Posted by: Pound | August 09, 2008 at 09:33 PM
Carpenter scores another FG. 7-6 TB. Feely is getting nervous??
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:34 PM
This kid Carpenter is good. What can you get in a trade for a good kicker?

We havent talked kick coverage. Thats looking much better so far
Posted by: Pound | August 09, 2008 at 09:36 PM
Ted Ginn has been awfully quiet. At least they should let him return punts and kicks.
Looks like the coaches like Camarillo alot. He's been in there quite a bit.
Henne is the real deal. This means that Beck has completely lost his 'QB of the future' title.
Posted by: Kevin P. | August 09, 2008 at 09:37 PM
you guys are a fun read, especially the pennington beck conversation at the half "buised my vagine" LOF'inL
Thanks for the camoron update pound.
