Upset special: Dolphins blow out NE, 38-13!

FOXBORO -- The Dolphins out-coached, outplayed, out-thought, out-executed, you name it they did it to the Patriots today. But mostly they administered a beatdown on New England, 38-13 the stirring result.

New England coach Bill Belicheat agreed with me.

"I thought that Miami played a real good football game," he said. "They did everything a lot better than we did. They outplayed us. They out-coached us. They certainly dominated on offense and defense. I thought we were competitive in the kicking game but that was about it, not on the offensive or defensive sides of the ball."

Ronnie Brown went crazy on the Patriots defense. Using what the Dolphins refer to as the "Wildcat" formation in which Brown lines up in shotgun and either runs, hands off or passes, the running back scored four touchdowns, threw for another touchdown and gained a game-high113 yards on 17 carries.

Ricky Williams contributed 98 yards on 16 carries. Wow.

Brown had TD runs of 62 yards, 5 yards, 15 yards and 2 yards -- all of them out of the "Wildcat" formation. Miami's other points came on a 39-yard field goal by Dan Carpenter.

Although the Patriots scored their first TD of the day on a Matt Cassel pass, the Dolphins defense clearly outplayed New England offense also. New England's TD was made possible primarily because Ellis Hobbs returned a kickoff 81 yards.

That kickoff came after Ronnie Brown threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Fasano to give the Dolphins a 28-6 lead. That is not a misprint. Brown, who ran for three previous scores, lined up in the shotgun and took the direct snap. He rolled left, which is his dominant hand, and pass to Fasano.

The Dolphins have clearly found a chink in the New England defense's armor as Brown tied the team record for rushing TDs in a game with three.

Brown scored from 5 yards out iwth :54 seconds to play in the half. Three of the scores have come on a play in which Brown takes a direct snap from center as Chad Pennington lines up at WR. Brown simply keeps the ball and finds a running lane that one can fit a truck through. He's done this twice. The third time he passed.

New England early on was able to match Miami score for score. The difference was Miami was scoring touchdowns. New England has two field goals.

So the score here is 21-6 so far after Stephen Gostkowski connected on his second field goal of the day.

Ronnie Brown is on a tear! He went over from 15 yards out for his second touchdown of the day as the Dolphins stretched their lead over New England to 14-3 in the second quarter.

The Miami TD answered a 37-yard field goal by Gostkowski that New England used to close the gap with the Dolphins to 7-3 early in the second quarter.

The Dolphins took a 7-0 lead when Brown took a direct snap from center and ran in from 2 yards in the first quarter.

The Dolphins have shown a lot of fight so far. They got their first interception of the season -- that by Randy Starks -- to stop a first quarter New England drive. Then the Dolphins drove 74 yards for the go-ahead TD.

It was the first time this season the Patriots have allowed a first-quarter touchdown and the first time this year Miami takes a lead in a game. Anthony Fasano caught passes of 23 and 24 yards on the drive to help the Dolphins.

It's a beautiful day for a live blog and we will have that in the comment section today.

Meanwhile the news today is that Brown got his first start of the season ahead of Ricky Williams at running back.

As reported in this blog often this week, Renaldo Hill is starting for Chris Crocker at free safety.

I ran into future Dolphins owner and current partner Stephen Ross before the game. He is here. It is interesting, to me at least, that Wayne Huizenga is not here and I didn't see him on the road last week, either. I don't know what that means, but I just figured you'd like to know.

For the Patriots, meanwhile, starting running back Laurence Maroney is out. Backup Lamont Jordan is questionable. The starter will be former Dolphins running back Sammy Morris.

go phins

Wow, I was afraid to comment, didn't want to jinx it.

Holy Cow

The SAME people that last week wanted to lynch Sparano and drive Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams/Chad Pennington out of town on a rail are now kneeling at their "altar"..we Dolfans are front runners..no doubt..
Let's see next week and San Diego..I'm waiting for the call to bring torches and pitchforks if we lose..some of you guys are pitiful

Hey Arawak,

Did the phins do to the Pats what "the MIGHTY JETS" couldn't do? Plus, did you see the margin of victory? Can't wait for the rematch in GIANTS stadium. So much for your sweep talk. I wish we could have played that 1st game against the Jests next week instead. Good luck on the rest of your schedule. I think you'll need it.

I want hear from the Patriot fans that excused the Pats and Billacheat from running up the score by saying proffesional teams are paid to stop them...well now you see the difference of classy organization that doesn't take advantage of the Brady-less Patriots and doesn't score 52 points...I hope ESPN, Sports radio etc touch upon how Phins didn't pull what Billacheat does to down and out teams

Wow, this bandwagon is suddenly overflowing this week. I'm like you positive party, let's see if the good feelings last after the game vs SD. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DOLPHINS ON A GREAT, GREAT AND WELL DESERVED WIN!!!!! :OD It's nice to finally get another victory. Keep plugging guys; I don't expect playoffs but I hope they win more games.

Headed over the the Boston Globe to have some FUN!

i'm going to live up the next 7 days, this victory feels very nice!!

Just my luck, I did not want to sit and watch my Fins take another beaten, so I did a lot of yard work. What a great surprise to see that the fins not only showed up, they came to kick NE butt, and guess what they kicked it rather well. A very good way to go into bye week. I lost a bet on this game thinking that the fins would not pull it off, but I do not mine paying up....go fins

Mondays are GOOD AGAIN!....GO FINSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

And what better team to have our first victory against...................I'm drunk without having ONE drink!

Yeah baby! Go Fins.....

Anyone else crap their pants watching today's game?

Dolphins/Obama '08

Wow,,, how come we weren't able to run the ball in the first two weeks and today 200 yards on NE,,,, Great win,, hope we can have consistency on our offense and defense.

I'm impressed at how OUR OFFENSE manhandled the PATRIOTS DEFENSE! Its not like Brady was their star defensive player. Gameball goes to Dan Hennig...incredible play-calling and creativity today. The Patriots didn't know what hit em!

I am so proud of the Fins.I thought today would be difficult but we showed up for this game. I am glad Joey Porter wasn't made to be a fool after his prediction but I still think he should keep his mouth shut. And I don't want to hear any excuses from the analysts on the postgame shows. We won and can head into the bye with-out a sick feeling. Congrats Fins and good luck against the Bolts Week 5.

Great article today Mando...HAHA! Please stick to facts instead of Opinions, we have enough of that Crap from Cote and Lebatard.

Chris,
I did something in my pants and it wasn't crap, lol!

It's always fun to win but the fact that we beat the PATRIOTS on the road is sweet. NOBODY picked us to win today, not even as an upset. So I'm glad we won and that it was a blowout. It's nice to be on the right side of the win column even if only 1-2.

Does anyone remember how the 2001 season started for NE (when Brady won 1st Super Bowl)??? They were LOST in weeks 1 & 2 and CRUSHED NYJ (in New Jersey)week 3.

I'm really liking what I saw from Miami today. They finally got their sh** together & played like a team.

This game is the barometer for Miami. Now we know how good they are when they play SMART, INSPIRED, & CLEAN football.

Todays MVP = Joey Porter [3 sacks, motivated entire team]!!!!!!!!

PALIN ROCKS! come to think of it so does McCain........NOBAMA

So, does anyone here still want to argue that we haven't "improved" since last year?

wow, one bad play the whole game, bad kick coverage 1 time. but besides that it was perfection. porter earned his paycheck this week. i have brown in my fantasy league but didn't start him...grrrrr. if they can play this same way the rest of the season they could be a 500 team. great game called offennse and defense.

Palin bites, frequently & indiscriminately

someone is asking about obama's SAT scores?? i don't think we want to compare schooling.

obama harvard law grad.
biden law school grad.

mccain. 894th out of 899 at naval academy.
palin 5 colleges and 6 years to get a BA in journalism.

on education this is a no brainer!!

Would every objective reader of this blog acknowledge one very obvious point, that Armando Salguero doesn't have the FOGGIEST IDEA what the hell he's talking about!

Earlier this week he criticized Saban's drafting of Ronnie Brown and in one of today's articles he laughed at the prospects for a dolphins runner gaining 100 yards. The FINS nearly had 2 runners break the century mark.

In his next article, he'll flip-flop like he always does, put his hand in Ronnie Brown's jock strap, and tell all of us how good it feels to have his FINGERS on the PULSE of these Dolphins.

Any of you bloggers on here could do what Armando Salguero does, write articles about subject matter that you DO NOT UNDERSTAND. This guy's contradictory columns are PATHETIC. Hopefully, his SUPERIORS have taken note, and will WAIVE this BUM.

What's with the political comments? Don't need to know anything about Palin or the "Dolphins/Obama 08". Seriously - this is a football blog. Run over to Daily Kos or Little green Footballs and spew your politics.

Great job Miami! Keep it rolling now!

Whats wrong with you (Waive Armando) if dont like the way he writes you can just open your own blog and stop reading this one.

FROM MEXICO: Armando Congrats on the blog keep the good job keep on writing

As I said on one of your recent entries: Yes, I'm glad we took Ronnie Brown. All he needs is a good team around him, and he is elite. The end.

We finally answered the question. Did Brady make Belichek or did Belichek's system make Brady.

Not such a genius w/o Tommy Boy!!!!!!!1

GO FINS

"But the idea that improvement is already at hand is clearly wrong". YIKES! I bet you wish you had that one back Armando. On another note I'm really happy that me and maybe 4 other regulars in here were patient and will CONTINUE to be patient. Seeing the team take strides like this is a great reward. There's still a lot of work to do but it's great to see the foundation being laid. I'm so happy for the players and especially Sparano because they've been getting destroyed by most media outlets. Their hard work payed off today and now they just have to keep at it.

It is true that nothing Obama says makes any sense. The man can talk for an hour and say absolutely nothing. But that's okay! I would soooo let him stick a shampoo bottle up my butt! Go Obama! And Go shampoo!

Love the fins... don't like Armando - No improvement my a**
