The Dolphins are back at work this morning and some of the guys practicing are not on the roster while some of the guys on the roster are absent -- which obviously means roster moves have been made.
Running back Jalen Parmele was not at practice because he was waived, with his spot on the roster taken by tight end Joey Haynos, who was signed off the Green Bay practice squad. The Dolphins also waived practice squad tight end Drew Atchison and signed guard Matt McChesney to take his place.
Bottom line, Parmele, the first of Miami's three sixth-round draft picks, is not here. If he clears waivers Parmele is eligible to re-signed to the practice squad.
All of this is happening as Miami starting running back Ronnie Brown has been named AFC offensive player of the week by the NFL. Brown rushed for 113 yards on 17 carries and scored four touchdowns and threw for another score in a 38-13 dismantling of the Patriots.
"It's exciting," Brown said of the honor. "It's rewarding for myself getting this especially since I'm coming off that injury. I think it's a sign things are going in the right direction."
The Dolphins had a very good practice today, according to coach Tony Sparano. Players were working hard and "fast" and "efficient," he said. That is one reason the team got all its work done eight minutes before schedule.
Meanwhile, outside linebacker coach Jim Reid was feeling poorly after a running session and Davie paramedics were called to attend to him. Sparano said he was feeling dizzy. Linebacker Reggie Torbor is nursing a hamstring injury and did not practice today.

CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE DRAFTED 2 RB'S AS BACKUPS.WE HAD GOTTO,CHAPMAN,WE COULD'VE DRAFTED A RECIEVER OR LINEMAN OR D-BACK.

I hope IF Parmele was cut, then he clears waivers we at least get him back on the practice sqaud. He has potential and you nver know when RB's will be hurt.

Am I wrong or did the team take the whole week off during the bye week last year? I don't know, but I think I remember guys talking about taking mini-vacations during the 2007 bye week. Correct me if i'm wrong!
Posted by: Anne-Marie | September 24, 2008 at 11:45 AM
Why did we draft two running backs? 1)Ronnie was no guarantee to come back, 2)Ricky was no guarantee to stay clean.
Posted by: MJZ | September 24, 2008 at 11:50 AM
Anne,I think the team took a long mini-vacation
last year
Posted by: td | September 24, 2008 at 11:55 AM
It is because we are picking up Mark Bradley off waivers and signing Hamza Abdullah and dropping Crocker
Posted by: Kidikarus | September 24, 2008 at 11:55 AM
I think the roster every week will be changed no matter how well or bad this team is playing. They have nothing to lose at this point and yes we should have drafted another receiver to be safe or cornerback.
Posted by: Spiro | September 24, 2008 at 11:58 AM
Samkon Gado or Jesse Chatman? Are you insane? Get out of here with that ridiculous statement. you shouldnt be allowed to post here any more.
Posted by: lolwut? | September 24, 2008 at 12:02 PM
Ok enough of the Ricky not staying clean talk. To me he has showed he may actually have his commitments right and we should stop riding his back on this. Until he does something again, which I don't think he will, lets give the man a break. I agree we should of gone another way on the draft as far as how many running backs but what is done is done. LEAVE RICKY ALONE!!!!
Posted by: tw | September 24, 2008 at 12:10 PM
My guess is that Jalen Parmele is lacking energy and just needs to come on over to my house an grab a bowl of Campbell's® Chunky™ Steak 'N' Potato Soup. Just ax my boy Donovan - he knows. Mmmmm mmmmm dat boy like a crazed dawg when he see me makin dat soup.
Posted by: Mrs. McNabb | September 24, 2008 at 12:17 PM
Agreed TW. Too many sound like a broken record regarding Ricky. Enough is enough!
Posted by: THE real deal | September 24, 2008 at 12:18 PM
MATT MILLEN IS FIRED & AVAILABLE. DO WHATEVER IT NECESSARY TO GET HIM HERE NOW!! I WOULD GET RID OF THE PARCEL IRELAN REGIME AND DRAFT MILLEN TO A GOOD CONTRACK. HE HARDWORKING AND NOT AFRAID TO MAKE NECESSARY DEALS BESIDE WE NEED WIDERE CEIVRS AND HE LIKE DRAFT SOMEGOOD ONES SINCE HIS TIME THERE.
Posted by: Jose Caldero | September 24, 2008 at 12:26 PM
That Millen comment is disturbing. I hope it was a joke!
Posted by: Louie | September 24, 2008 at 12:33 PM
oh no
Posted by: bob | September 24, 2008 at 12:42 PM
Mando,
Nice scoop on those practice squad moves. That's why they pay you the big bucks. I wish I broke that story. Lets get one thing clear Salguero - I don't like you, but damn it, I respect you.
Posted by: Sal Palantonio | September 24, 2008 at 12:46 PM
Armando, Any word of if we are going to grab Bradley off of waivers? He is big, physical, young, cheap and more proven than everyone except Wilford and hey its wilford. Run that down with Ireland him and Abdullah he is way better than Crocker

Jose,
If you were trying to be funny it didn't work. Plus if you are going to post learn to type and use proper grammar. There's nothing worse than having to read thru jibberish.
As for roster changes we can expect that to happen throughout the year. The good news is this week we have let go guys that weren't active for last weeks game. Changing the bottom part of the roster isn't a bad idea. Lets make sure we keep the aggresive game plan that was installed for the rest of the year. I liked the fact that we got up and were very aggresive. In years past the offense would have gone into the 3 and out syndrome and the game may have been in question at the end. This was a good sign for good things to come the next few games.

Oh and by the way the Haynos pick up is freaking great. This guy was an outstanding blocker here at MD. And he can catch. Think extra OL but faster and can pancake a LB consistently. Now just get Bradley drop Wilfords expensive @$$ and drop kick No cover skills crocker and get Abdullah and we actually have a pretty solid depth chart!!! GO PHINS!!

Jalen Parmele: just another wasted Dolphins draft pick
Posted by: Jimbo | September 24, 2008 at 01:11 PM
You don't hit on every pick. I'll take a Jalen Parmele miss if I get a Donald Thomas hit.
Posted by: Marcus | September 24, 2008 at 01:17 PM
Marcus,
You may not hit on every pick, but we can't afford these misses. As for Donald Brown, he's the new Billy Milner.
Posted by: Jimbo | September 24, 2008 at 01:21 PM
That's pretty funny Bif's spelling teacher.
Good job Armando
Glad to see the Dolphins making progress. Can't wait for the next game and see what other wrinkles come out of that "Wildcat" formation.
Posted by: Marc in Timmins | September 24, 2008 at 01:35 PM
We certainly can afford it seeing how he was just one of three 6TH ROUND PICKS. That's a sixth round pick that they let go. They can afford it because it makes the team better. Some of the players they pick up are players they looked at before the draft but weren't available to them when they picked as compared to what they thought that players true value was. Doesn't mean they missed on him and if he clears waivers chances are he gets signed to the practice squad. They're making the bottom of the roster better so I can't find a reason why someone would be upset by this. This is a good thing. People have to stop falling in love with players because they're wearing a Dolphins uniform because chances are they will be cut for someone better. That's the right thing to do, it's the right way to build a winning franchise.

Congrats to Ronnie, he deserved it!
The guy who made the comment about getting rid of the trifecta in favor of Matt Millen should put down the pipe!

If you have that much time on your hands to correct all my posts I think I want to trade you in from spelling teacher to sex ed teacher. Anyways, Good one.

A 4th running back is not needed on the roster when neither RB is getting a huge number of carries. If injuries happen there are guys like Shawn Alexander and Cedric Benson sitting home watching TV...

The decision to cut Parmele will haunt this franchise for decades!
Posted by: Rich Schpielberg | September 24, 2008 at 02:45 PM
Way to go Ronnie, Way to to go Porter,
Although Porter gets the accolade, getting a Sack is a total defensive team effort. 1) the quarterback must be forced to hold the ball as his protection decays allowing would be sackers to pursue. 2) smothering blanket coverage on recievers during the first four seconds after the snap is critical and forces the quarterback into indecision. (please forward to defensive coordinator)
Ricky, could you give the booth a copy of billy jean(michael jackson) to play after a touchdown run. The MOONWALK would have to give ocho cinco a run for his money! (plaese forward to Mr. Williams)
GO Fins!!!!

My IQ just dropped 10 points from having read that rediculous Jose post! Thanks for making us all dumber BROSEPH!
Posted by: | September 24, 2008 at 03:27 PM
Hey Rich Schpielberg you cracked me up with that one! We had 11 rookies and we cut one... Don't be surprised if Parmele is back on the practice squad. Calculated risk.
Posted by: Patrick | September 24, 2008 at 03:50 PM
I thought Jose's post was sheer genius! Planned throughout as high satire. From the ridiculous premise, to the AOLish all caps, to the misspelling, and the typing errors. I say Kudos, Jose. Those who got it are still laughing.
(BTW, no, I am not Jose, nor do I know him. I just know funny, and that is darn funny)

For all of you Ginn/Beck haters, Cleveland just announced that Anderson will remain the starter this week, even after looking like a 300lber's fat, stinky butt so far this year. Quinn can't beat him out, even with how bad he has looked. Can you say OVERRATED?
Posted by: Tree2691 | September 24, 2008 at 04:03 PM
but Quinn looks so hot in the EAS commercial! Beck is fugly!
Posted by: Marc | September 24, 2008 at 04:40 PM
Henne beat ND 4 straight years, thats 1 before Quinn was the starter, 2 with Quinn as starter and 1 after Quinn graduated.
Posted by: Master | September 24, 2008 at 04:58 PM
Did't Jalen Parmelee have that long run during the preseason? He had some nice runs if I remember.
Posted by: mr. harris | September 24, 2008 at 05:27 PM
Why does fans have to question every move we make to improve this team? They react before we see results, I think that whatever roster move they make it's gonna work until otherwise.
Posted by: Bill Parcells | September 24, 2008 at 06:55 PM
Fins Fans nightmare: when Quinn gets in, he's oh so good. Pain & despair` rule the land.
Posted by: Dom Capon | September 24, 2008 at 07:04 PM
I think Matt Millen would look much better running the Pats or the Jets.
Posted by: Noel | September 24, 2008 at 09:54 PM
Is Ocho Cinco available
Posted by: Tom Olivadotti | September 24, 2008 at 10:06 PM
My guess is that Lex Hilliard is really hoping right now that Parmele doesn't clear waivers.
Posted by: jon | September 24, 2008 at 11:39 PM
All I know is that we have matched our win total from last year....IN THE 3RD WEEK! Obviously we have improved
Posted by: HawaiiFinsFan | September 25, 2008 at 03:58 AM
Someone call Marino in off the bench...he isn't that good on TV, but he was the best QB in NFL history!!!!
Posted by: HawaiiFinsFan | September 25, 2008 at 03:59 AM
I bet Ocho Cinco is loving the season so far lol. They keep getting spanked, they will have to get rid of him just to shut him up.
On a different note, lets all use our Dolfans mojo to send some more negative vibes towards the Redskins to make them lose more. We need them to have a crappy season so that 2nd round pick will be higher. =D
Posted by: Ixxy | September 25, 2008 at 10:05 AM
Armando, Do you think Pennington's stock will rise to the point that Miami trades him? Example how valuable would Pennington be in NE?
Posted by: Stefin | September 25, 2008 at 11:25 AM
Jose's post was awesome! Parmele did look good in preseason but we are past that time now. 6th rounders are usually talent evaluations. Brady was an aberration not the norm.
Posted by: PT | September 25, 2008 at 11:26 AM
I need to know something. The running back [Ronnie Brown] has the same amount of touchdown throws as the starting QB?. . .and you say Pennington is getting command of the offense? What? Are you nuts?
Posted by: will | September 25, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Mrs. McNabb -- if that wasn't the most racist rant I've heard in the long time . . . !!! Go put your little white hood back on and stay off this board!
Posted by: Louis | September 25, 2008 at 01:23 PM
chad did have command against the patriots 17-20 is awesome he put us in the position to run the wild cat play. ill take 17-20 any sunday
Posted by: Pino | September 25, 2008 at 04:05 PM
when you cut a player, it doesn't mean they don't need or want him, they sometimes have to let the bottom feeders go temporarily to fit new players onto the roster. You can only have 53 players on the active roster. It is real evident that they are stockpiling linemen, then next years draft will be skilled players.
