It is a New Beginning!
At least that is what the billboards next to South Florida Highways keep insisting. We shall see today.
I'm sure you are all excited the Dolphins' regular season opener against the New York Jets is finally here. I know I am. The Dolphins are also. I got a call from one very excited Dolphins player very early this morning. Yeah, he noticed I picked the other team to win in the paper today.
He was awake and itching to get going but couldn't find anything to do so he started calling people to get them going. Not the kind of wake up call I expected today but that's fine.
I sat down one-on-one and did a question and answer column with Dolphins coach Tony Sparano for today's Miami Herald. It is a must read before today's game.
You'll get the answer to what he's thinking today, what he's most confident in and what worries him the most about his team. He also discusses his approach for reaching players.
The live blog will begin in the comments section at the start of the game so join me there.
Yeah!!!!! Fired up!!!!
UPDATE: WR Ernest Wilford, who got $6 million guaranteed money this offseason, is inactive today. Yikes. So much for recent improvement that coach Tony Sparano reported. But if you read that Q&A you'll understand why the coach doesn't call out players.
Cornerback Michael Lehan and rookie Shawn Murphy are also inactive.

dink and dunk time

Big gain by Fasano!!! And one!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Sammy in Dubai | September 07, 2008 at 03:30 PM
i seriously question this regimes ability to evaluate actual talent when they start Ricky( i love to get high and ruin my career) Williams over Ronnie Brown, who led the league in yards from scrimmage into week 7 last year on an absolutely terrible team
Posted by: pete from otown | September 07, 2008 at 03:30 PM
Every year its be patient. F@#$ patience. I want to win NOW! I am tired of cheering for a loosing team. They get paid good money to win games period. Win F@#$%^&*^ games.

Posted by: AZ Fin | September 07, 2008 at 03:31 PM
The Dolphins have brought a popgun offense to a firefight.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | September 07, 2008 at 03:32 PM
Another wasted time out
Posted by: Sammy in Dubai | September 07, 2008 at 03:32 PM
Was it a tight end or Jake Long that let Pace in on that sack?
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 03:32 PM
I wonder how many other 1st round picks from this year are doing better than Jake Long?
Posted by: pete from otown | September 07, 2008 at 03:32 PM
I am burning the whole stadium down tonight. A new beginning my butt. Lets really start from scratch
Posted by: DolphanforLife | September 07, 2008 at 03:33 PM
The OL looks confused more than lacking in talent = young and not very well-coached
Posted by: Chris | September 07, 2008 at 03:34 PM
Trent Edwards who Camoron & Co. passed on looking like franchise QB crusing SEA.
Posted by: AZ Fin | September 07, 2008 at 03:34 PM
Either way..Left side of the O-line was supposed to be a lock
Posted by: Sammy in Dubai | September 07, 2008 at 03:34 PM
Even if you do burn the stadium down, ticket prices will still go up...
Posted by: LongIslandFinFan | September 07, 2008 at 03:34 PM
our TE position has been the bright spot today
Posted by: daryl in Charlotte | September 07, 2008 at 03:35 PM
Fasano was a solid pick up...
Posted by: Sammy in Dubai | September 07, 2008 at 03:35 PM
WOW why is ricky back in??????
Posted by: pete from otown | September 07, 2008 at 03:35 PM
WR's cant get open again!
Posted by: AZ Fin | September 07, 2008 at 03:35 PM
pete the freaking season just started and u are wondering what rookies are doing better, get a life
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 03:36 PM
Boy Pennington really locked on his receiver...Turnover on downs...
Posted by: LongIslandFinFan | September 07, 2008 at 03:36 PM
Terrible playcalling the inside the 5
Posted by: Joel | September 07, 2008 at 03:36 PM
Lets get a new coach too, this play calling is just as unimaginable as last year and I for one am tired of it.
Posted by: pete from otown | September 07, 2008 at 03:36 PM
looks like this one is over. We got AZ next week lets see what happens...
Posted by: AZ Fin | September 07, 2008 at 03:36 PM
WOW...Chad was locked on the receiver on that 4th and goal...
Posted by: Marc | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
Wow...zero rushes on this last series, and two pass plays from the 3 yard line...
Posted by: Mike in Houston | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
what kinda pass was it on fourth. like was it close. whose fault was it
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
We would never draft a guy like Lowery. He's actually good. We'll draft bums like Ginn and Jake Long and Lex Luthor or whoever that bum RB from Montana who was cut is named.
Absoulely inexcusable. Anyone - and I mean ANYONE - who can rationalize this garbage by saying it's the first game for a bunch of young players and a rookie coach is either a Pollyanna idiot, on the Parsmells' payroll, or both.
0-16.
Posted by: Oh yes, we suck again | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
The Dolphins were put on earth for the world to laugh at.
Posted by: Aiden | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
Is that the best you can call on 4th down Henning?
Posted by: daryl in Charlotte | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
It wouldn't matter if we had Randy Moss. Our Quaterback cant throw to recievers. Only tight ends and backs
Posted by: DolphanforLife | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
The sad thing about this game, is that we have had so many chances...
Posted by: LongIslandFinFan | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
Gonna be a long long year--Bess & Camar--2 street agents, & thass the best we can do? Ugh! Ginn is Teh Sux.
Posted by: C. Little | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
Its going to be another long and dreadful year.
Posted by: Steve | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
conclusion, petes a moron who probably expected a super bowl this year
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
like i said before when you go from pennington to favre you get added benefits. one gets pass interference calls the other doesn't.
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 03:37 PM
Gents, I hate to break it to you, but this is going to be a long season...
Posted by: Sammy in Dubai | September 07, 2008 at 03:38 PM
Why are we trusting him to throw a TD with Williams standing there?
We will improve.
We need Heene to start. If Flacco and Ryan are good enough to why not Henne what's your opinion Armando?
Posted by: James/Ireland | September 07, 2008 at 03:38 PM
the more things change the more they remain the same....the fins are living proof of that adage!!!!
Posted by: Miami Vice | September 07, 2008 at 03:38 PM
Now I have an issues with the playcalling in the last series:
why throw it to a rookie on 3rd down
why not try to run it in on one of those downs instead of 3 pass plays???!!! Grr...
But again, this is what one expects from a 1-15 team.....:(
Posted by: teezeepan | September 07, 2008 at 03:38 PM
On that last possession, the Dolphins have two plays from the 2 yard line.. And neither Ronnie nor Ricky touch the ball.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | September 07, 2008 at 03:39 PM
A turnover please somebody make a play
Posted by: daryl in Charlotte | September 07, 2008 at 03:39 PM
Time to give Henne some garbage time...
Posted by: LongIslandFinFan | September 07, 2008 at 03:39 PM
Apart from one sack by Langford, our drafted rookies have not done squat. Bring back Wannstache and Spielman. Bring back Cammstedt and Mueller. Hell, bring back Roger Pedacter from "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective". Bill Parcells is old, over the hill and senile. No good will come from this.
Posted by: Oh yes, we suck again | September 07, 2008 at 03:39 PM
Porter getting stood up at the line just like last year. WR's and DB's still Suck. Merling has been found.
Posted by: AZ Fin | September 07, 2008 at 03:41 PM
way to go Merling
Posted by: daryl in Charlotte | September 07, 2008 at 03:41 PM
Ginn blows
Posted by: C. Little | September 07, 2008 at 03:41 PM
you guys are so harsh in our first game of the year. how much did you expect? we were 1-15 last year. there is a lot of fixing to do. give them a break. yeah we have had a lot of mistakes but just shut up already
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 03:41 PM
A Merling sighting!
Posted by: Sammy in Dubai | September 07, 2008 at 03:41 PM
Ted Ginn, allergic to pigskin. Put Bess back there; at least that kid had a pair of testicles. Ginn is to the Dolphins as Lance Leggett was to the Hurricanes.
Posted by: Oh yes, we suck again | September 07, 2008 at 03:42 PM
Fasano is seeing so much action because he's getting open...our wide receivers can't break free or find the soft spots in coverage...it's not that Pennington can only throw to TEs or RBs...it's ignorance like that that's frustrating to hear from negative fans
Posted by: Mike in Houston | September 07, 2008 at 03:42 PM
damn i do love our young D-LINE though...
Posted by: CHASE | September 07, 2008 at 03:42 PM
obama looks good in the backfield
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 03:42 PM
Ginn has to be the biggest dissapointment today
Posted by: Sammy in Dubai | September 07, 2008 at 03:42 PM
How many sacks is that?
Posted by: Marc | September 07, 2008 at 03:43 PM
