It is a New Beginning!
At least that is what the billboards next to South Florida Highways keep insisting. We shall see today.
I'm sure you are all excited the Dolphins' regular season opener against the New York Jets is finally here. I know I am. The Dolphins are also. I got a call from one very excited Dolphins player very early this morning. Yeah, he noticed I picked the other team to win in the paper today.
He was awake and itching to get going but couldn't find anything to do so he started calling people to get them going. Not the kind of wake up call I expected today but that's fine.
I sat down one-on-one and did a question and answer column with Dolphins coach Tony Sparano for today's Miami Herald. It is a must read before today's game.
You'll get the answer to what he's thinking today, what he's most confident in and what worries him the most about his team. He also discusses his approach for reaching players.
The live blog will begin in the comments section at the start of the game so join me there.
Yeah!!!!! Fired up!!!!
UPDATE: WR Ernest Wilford, who got $6 million guaranteed money this offseason, is inactive today. Yikes. So much for recent improvement that coach Tony Sparano reported. But if you read that Q&A you'll understand why the coach doesn't call out players.
Cornerback Michael Lehan and rookie Shawn Murphy are also inactive.

Phil Simms is an absolute genius...No wait it is all hindsight..
Posted by: LongIslandFinFan | September 07, 2008 at 04:02 PM
Even if they don't score & lose the game, it's still a very impressive performance.
Posted by: Mike D | September 07, 2008 at 04:02 PM
Why the hell is this idiot play-faking? Does he actually think they're going to bite on it in this situation? Does he think he's going up against his own team's defense/ Argh... I've seen enough of Pennington. Cut him. Cut him, cut Long, cut them all. Blow it up. Start over.
Posted by: Oh yes, we suck again | September 07, 2008 at 04:02 PM
Feels good to be in the game late with a chance to win... Unlike last year.
Posted by: AZ Fin | September 07, 2008 at 04:03 PM
Thanks Jets for the TO we have time to work something out can Pennington do it...
Posted by: James/Ireland | September 07, 2008 at 04:03 PM
you cant tell me a 2007 dolphin team would at least come back and make a game out of it
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 04:03 PM
damn well that was a nice try

Posted by: Aiden | September 07, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Ballgame. Heading to the locker room. Leave your postgame thoughts here.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | September 07, 2008 at 04:05 PM
That sucks...Oh well on to AZ...
Posted by: LongIslandFinFan | September 07, 2008 at 04:05 PM
this makes me sick... jumpball to a short WR! WTF!!!!
Posted by: AZ Fin | September 07, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Very Positive great attempt at a comeback but one negative is Penningtons lack of ability to get it done when it matters for Jets and now us....
Posted by: James/Ireland | September 07, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Oh yes, why do you even bother posting? Why do you even bother following the Dolphins if you're filled with negativity and hate?
Posted by: CO Fin Fan | September 07, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Chad Pennington is the worst quarterback in Dolphin history.
Ted Ginn sucks so bad, he's not even the best Ginn in Dolphin history - there was someone named Ginn on the Perfect Season team. CLEARLY, no relation. We drafted from... the WRONG Ginn Family.
One loss down, 15 more losses to go. Just put Henne in already. Not that it matters. We are, once again, the laughingstock, the embarrassment of the league. Once again, not a single team in the league outcrapped us. Not a one. Scorelines might say otherwise, but trust me, we're still a glorified junior high school junior varsity powder puff squad.
Thanks for nothing, Bill Parsmells, and once again, thanks for nothing, Wayne Huizenga.

Told you it was over. The next 15 games are over, too.
Posted by: Yogi Berra | September 07, 2008 at 04:06 PM
here we go again...i've been loyal since 1980. not sure I can take this team any longer..:(
Posted by: JR | September 07, 2008 at 04:06 PM
Wow, we had some great suggestions today...firing the coaching staff and front office, cutting our 1st overall draft pick and starting quarterback...great, intelligent suggestions. We should really consider them...this game wasn't close at all against a team far less talented than the fins.
Posted by: Mike in Houston | September 07, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Meet the new incompetent boss, same as the old incompetent boss. The more things don't change, the more they absolutely stay the same. We suck, have done nothing but suck this decade, and will continue to suck for years to come.
Posted by: Oh yes, we suck again | September 07, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Yogi, you are a genius just like Phil Simms...
Posted by: LongIslandFinFan | September 07, 2008 at 04:07 PM
that missed RZ scoring opportunity in the 3RD QT killed us at the end. Still why put up a jump ball to a short WR.
Posted by: AZ Fin | September 07, 2008 at 04:07 PM
new beginning same old ending,,
Posted by: don | September 07, 2008 at 04:07 PM
I QUIT THIS POSTBOARD... DOLPHIN FANS SUCK.. VERY FEW PEOPLE ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE FINS
Posted by: CHASE | September 07, 2008 at 04:07 PM
I have to go let the air out of my 9 foot blow up Dolphin bobble head before my neighbor J-E-T fan comes over to hump it....
Posted by: D.Strock | September 07, 2008 at 04:08 PM
Chase you are supposed to be at least 13 years old to use this board...
Posted by: LongIslandFinFan | September 07, 2008 at 04:09 PM
penny did a great job, considering his line couldn't block and other than fasano, his receivers couldn't get open.
plenty of young team mistakes but there wass plenty of thing to make you feel the team is moving in the right direction..
key thing they must do is look for receiver help. wilford inactive. he sucks! replace him now.
Posted by: Jaison Biagini | September 07, 2008 at 04:09 PM
We just need a No. 1 WR. Ginn still needs
developing! O-line needs time to gel
too!
Posted by: daryl in Charlotte | September 07, 2008 at 04:09 PM
Oh yes we suck again, since the fins are going to suck, they are the laughingstock of the league,an embarrassment, I guess we will not being seeing you here anymore because there's going to be 15 more games of this.... you don't need to hang around....why put yourself thru so much misery...So bye-bye, so long, adios...........
Posted by: teezeepan | September 07, 2008 at 04:10 PM
This one hurt, but as badly as we played we had a shot to win it in the end...I think you can build off of this heading into AZ
Posted by: Sammy in Dubai | September 07, 2008 at 04:11 PM
Well another loss, but we are coming off a 1-15 season. Some things did look better and some things looked same old. Its going to take some time before we start seeing Ws, but Im just tired of seeing them loose so much.
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 04:11 PM
Im still enjoying being the most successful Dolphin QB in 8 years!!!
Posted by: Jay Fiedler | September 07, 2008 at 04:11 PM

Posted by: shuddup | September 07, 2008 at 04:12 PM
My dad put me on this BAND WAGON in 1966 and I have never fallen off. Never will.
Good game.
Bad breaks.
Poor officiating
Signs of improvement.
GO FINS!
Kick the Marlins out and cover the damn dirt!
Posted by: D.Strock | September 07, 2008 at 04:13 PM
I thought NE fans were the ones to moan over nothing....
We have a great future ahead of us and I too feel like a loss is a loss but that's the difference between us and the others in our division we are used to winning.
Let's moan if we are not 4-2 untill then let's support our TEAM and not quit like losers do. I thought you Yanks had more bottle....
