Dolphins beat Bills 25-16 to keep hopes alive

The Dolphins have just completed their biggest upset victory of the year and that's saying a lot considering previous victories over New England and San Diego.

The Dolphins have defeated the Bills 25-16.

The Dolphins pretty much outgunned a Bills team that entered the game with a 5-1 record and sole possession of the AFC East lead. Miami passes for a season-high 314 yards with 175 of those yards contributed by receiver Ted Ginn Jr. who caught seven passes for his best day as a professional.

Quarterback Chad Pennington completed 22 of 30 passes with one touchdown and no interceptions.

The Dolphins trailed 9-7 at halftime but they got a 3 yard TD run by Ricky Williams and a 43 yard field goal by Dan Carpenter to take a 17-16 lead by the end of the third quarter.

Then all heck broke loose.

There was the safety caused by Joey Porter. There was the Will Allen interception that led to a field goal. And there was the fumble recovery by Channing Crowder to seal the game.

The Bills had four turnovers on the day.

I am about to go into the Dolphins locker room where, no doubt, players will be talking about staying alive in the AFC East race. The question is do you believe they are capable of staying alive in the AFC East, given their ability to beat the division's two best teams?

Or do you see this as something a freak victory?

I say the Dolphins are ALIVE. And legit.

dang the jet won

I think they need to figure out who they are. Figure out that they can't be lacksidasical against the weak teams, then rise up to the good ones. Take it one week at a time and we'll see. They have a long road ahead, but he progress has been amazing.

Yes we are alive

Yeah, they just beat a very good team and made the best 4th quarter QB in the league look bad. They will have some bad games but the dolphins are back! Dolphan4life... where did you go? I haven't heard from you since the 3rd quarter buddy.

Isay they are alive but must start beating the teams they should beat.

EVERY ONE IN THE AFC EAST WON TODAY EXCEPT THE AFC EAST LEADER BUFFALO CUZ WE BEAT EM!!!

i really haven't seen him eith since he mad the powder puff comment about the phins

aslong as the Defense and special teams hold up, the 2nd half schedule isnt hard at all, and they have proven they are capable of beating ANY team on ANY day.........2-1 against our division, cant rember last time we were able to beat teams in our division....and heartbreaking losses to NY and HOU imagine what our record would be?

Yes the dolphins are back no diubt about that, but we need some consistency. Beat the teams you are supppose to beat and we will be playoff contenders soon....but great win im loving it

No Freak Victory Here, even Ted (side Line)ginn Jr. Had The Game Of His Life, also If U Noticed The Bills Were Exhausted In The Fourth Quarter Which Means Miami Was Better Conditioned. Great Game For The Fish

man i was really keeping a eye on J.A. to see how he would play and was very impressed with his play.

THey need to get him on the field!

Still no Teddy on NFL.com...

They are indeed alive- but they need to figure out how to be consistent and not just play on emotions alone. They need to get better in the secondary, although today showed a slight improvement over prior weeks. They also need to get better on 3rd and long. There were some occasions where Patrick Cobbs would have been appropiate today- should try that next time.

i thought they looked defeated

despite miami's weaknesses and deficiencies, they are two plays away from being 5 and 2:

1. Brett Favre's prayer in the first game for a TD.
2. Matt Shaub's QB sneak.

Think about it.

I'll always savor these wins, but we are too inconsistant for me to believe we truly have a shot for the division title...instead of a three-year project, I see us making a push next year. Go Fins!

It's good to see my beloved Dallas Cowboys close out this dreaded month of October with a 2-2 record by defeating NFC South Division leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers this afternoon 13-9 in Dallas. Out of the 3 losts we had, the defense gave up 6 touchdown drives, but this afternoon we didn't give up any and Tampa Bay drove inside the Dallas territory on 7 occasions and could only manage three field goals from their placekicker, Matt Bryant. Now my 'Boys still got some work to do on offense as we get ready to prepare to take on defending Super Bowl Champs, the New York Giants... Oh, by the way, congratulations on the Miami Dolphins defeating the Buffalo Bills this afternoon too!!!

Spartan 79 your dead right. With the victories against such class and losing to the weaker teams, Miami has to pick a side to play on. All round team effort. We had so many chances to blow that game but came through. Big day from Our last three first round picks. Ginn, Allen and Long came good on the same day...... God Im so happy I could start having an awesome week starting now....... YEEEEEEssSSSSSSS !!!!

They should have a good chance if they keep playing at the level they played against buffalo. They need to pick up on the rushing game to make it. Good job Dolphins.

Thats My Boy

This is a roller coaster season, without a doubt. But considering what we were expecting and where we were last year, you have to love it for its entertainment.

At this point, its saft to say that the Dolphins could beat any team in the NFL. They could also lose to the Lions, depending on form. Inconsistent and erratic...but dangerous....

Dolfan abroad

Why Is There A Guy Talking About The Cowboys?

It just shows that our Dolphins are capable of beating anybody. The Bills are a good squad, but the Dolphins today nutted up and stepped up.

Go into every game after this with the attitudes of:

1. Staying emotionally humble and on an even keel. Don't get down when things don't go well and don't get cocky when it does.

2. Being sound on practice, preparation and fundamentals of the game.

3. NO FEAR! No team is unbeatable even on a hot streak.

4. HEALTHY FEAR! No team is a doormat. The Rams ain't Lambs and the Chiefs gave the Jets all they can handle.

5. Consistency! Game in! Game out!

Need A Recipe 4 Crow

crow just sucks no matter how you spice it been there done that before

It would be great to be 5-2 right now. But if anyone told you before the season that we would be 3-4 with 2 division wins against NE and Buffalo, and another big win over SD, I would take it. Go Miami! We are alive!

Dear Mama McNabb,

After that win we need MORE CHUNKY SOUP!!! Obviously we had a few bowls after the 3rd quarter. We'll definitely need some to keep us warm in Denver!!! Go Phins!!!

3 times as good as last year!!! somtimes I wonder why I cheer for miami, but its the underdog games like this that'll remind me. being a phinfan defines both phrases: -thin line between love & hate
-love hate relationship
go phins!! go canes!! go miami-dade!!!

You really have to hand it to Joey Porter. I was a massive sritic of him last season, but Im so wrong about him. It just goes to show what a legend he is with this season's level of play. Dom capers wasted him obviously playing him out of position all year. What a breakout game for Ginn. Is it possible that he could do this again and turn out to be the WR we all dreamed of. He is truly getting better. In the NFL, you can't have that kind of day and be a bust you just can't.

HEY CHECK IT OUT. JOEY PORTER HAD 2 MORE SACKS, A FUM FORCE AND A FUM RECOVERY.

IF THATS NOT AN MVP PERFORMANCE THEN WAT IS???

The Ginn Family Must Be Proud Of Teddy Jr. Thank God The Game Was Telecast Locally So They Got To See Him Not Just His Immedit Family Thats Always On The Side Line

Finfanrob come out to play aye.. Finfanrob come out to play aye...

And when you get out to play STFU about Ted Ginn Jr..

Go phins and great game Ted Ginn Jr. Finfanrob's favorite Dolphin today. LOL

O -- great game, but I think calling it the "biggest upset victory of the year" is pushing it. We were underdogs, but just by a few points. Pats were favored by 12.

We took another small step on the road back to respectability today. We beat a "better" team than we are by having a better attitude and wanting it more. I love what this staff has done with a 1-15 team in 1 year. Project that over 2 more draft and FA periods and we can expect a lot more post-season action in the future.

all ofseason i thought the team showed talent but didnt know how much do to in experience. but they are showing now what they are capable of with a good defense, special teams and a young offense that will only get better. we need to resign carey before the end of season. bess gin and camerio are showing talent. fasano and akin were steals for a forth round pick. this team is just gonna get better

I don't know if it was that big of an upset. The Bills were 1 point favorites. I think the New England game was a bigger upset given that NE had a 20+ win streak going and the Dolphins had lost like 19 out of 20 or something.

It was a good win though.

This inconsistency is to be expected with a team that is rebuilding. What I love about this team is that they are playing with heart, never giving up. Last year, they would have folded when Buffalo opened the second half with an easy TD and a huge lead. Instead, the team turned into a monster the rest of the second half and scored 18 unanswered points. We still are sorely lacking talented players on the field, and another draft and round of free agency will make this team very competitive next year. Watch out. The Fins are coming back!

This team has already shown its spirit against the AFC's top three teams. If they can take down the Broncos we have a real chance to make the playoffs. We have to play Jason Allen at CB now, he held up well agains Evans and has given us all hope that we have a man who can take on the bigger WR's. Denver have that Royal's dude and a great QB, o-line and running back. A crunch game for the Dolphins, we shall see.

Great victory! Still, the Fins are far from being a playoff team in my eyes. My hope is that as the season progresses, they improve in all phases of the game and win some key games against AFC east rivals down the stretch.

After seeing Big wins against, the patsies, the bolts and today somping the Bills I got a different question:

Why are we 3-4 instead of 5-2?

I will tell you why:

Coaching, we have been talking about been even keel, but in all reality we have not done that, we have been really good preparing for the tough teams, but when we are facing an team we should beat, preparation is not as intense as it should be, as a team we need to be professional and understand that what we have been doing to favorite teams we have faced can also be done to us...Get ready regardless of who we are playing...

If we do this consistently, then we'll be a team to be recon with.

Greatt job Phins...Keep it up!!!

as thrilled as I am with the win today, and I really am, it still fries my rear end that we beat good teams that everyone says we shouldn't and lose to teams that we are supposed to beat...

Poor Buffaloids!

Many of 'em couldn't see the game on their local cable TV!

Think about our loses guys:
FAVRE pulls a TD pass (that looked like a punt) out of his a$$ to beat us.
CARDS 'O' is givin EVERYONE fits.
TEXANS are much better than their record.
RAVENS at full strength are still about the toughest 'D' in the AFC.

Not making excuses cause there are NONE. Just saying any .500 team in this league makes me wonder who they beat. FINS are beating good teams. We are not playoff material yet, but headed in the right direction.
Another quality WR and a shut down DB...FINS are 5-2 or 6-1 and going places.

3-4 with 3 very winnable games coming up. Lets focus on Denver now, becasue it will be a tough place to go win on the road. However that being said todays win was great and much needed for us fans.

Everyone who thinks we lost to bad teams should rethink that. Houston is on fire of late and winning big again today. The Jets are pretty good and the Cardinals are as well. Still questioning the Ravens as well? All four teams are 8-8, 9-7 maybe even 10 win teams. The Dolphins themselves are an 8 or 9 win team. Just wait till we get more help with the draft and free agency.

The trifecta has done a good job in they're first yr.That CB from Wake Fo. looks good , thinking about the draft. This win feels great. Game balls for Teddy G , J Peezy & Penny. Goodman also made a couple of big plays in the second half. SARASOTA BAY DOLPHAN

Penningotn
Beck
Ginn
W. Allen
J. Allen

Most of you are blinded by the light and its cute I guess...dont get me wrong Im happy for my Phins Win but Pennington is a lame duck, very evident today as we settled for FG's instead of TD's...at least two of the FG's should have/would have been TD's with a QB that can throw a decent ball.

The fins are alive in the east! Give this some thought to: They are 2 plays away from 5-2. They have 2 solid losses, should've beet the Texans and could've beet the Jets. Not bad for a team still learning how to win with a lot of young players. Just a thought.

mR742-You are an idiot. What game did you watch?

mr742, why all the pessimism about Pennington. look at all the other teams in the league with "good" QB's and they are not much better than us. the colts with manning 3-3, San Diego with rivers 3-5. will Allen has been a good cb all year and j Allen showed us all today why he is going to be good

Mr742 YOU ARE A JOKE. I AM THE BIGGEST MARINO FAN EVER AS i'VE HAD TWO DOGS NAMED MARINO 1 and Marino 2. Well, Pennington is the best thing miami's had at QB since we lost #13. We are on our way back. I hope Chad P is there for a few more years when we are playing in the AFC Championship game

No chance to win this division. None. This team wins games vs Buffalo, and NE, and SD, but loses to the TEXANS and Ravens. And those teams suck.

Until we can win games we are supposed to win, winning in "upsets" don't mean a thing.

I think Parcells needs to come down from the Box and coach this team. Sparano is not the answer.

mr742,
What are you smoking? You been sifting through Ricky's garbage can? Pennington went 22 of 30 for 300+ yards today. Imagine what he could have done this year if he had a quality reciever doing that(what Ted Ginn did today) on a consistant basis?

This season's still not over, although it's still a steep uphill climb. 3 of our 4 loses were to non-divisional opponents. It's still a longshot. If the secondary can continue to improve, and Ginn starts playing like he did today regularly, lol, we may have a shot!

Not strong enough to win the AFC East this year, but 8-8 is very do-able considering Miami is about to go into the weaker part of the schedule. It def. feels great to have a team that grows and gets better every week

The Texans do not suck nor do the Ravens. The Dolphins lost because they did not play well.Jesus could come down and coach but they wont be a contender until they have more talent!!

You Ginn haters are going to say this was a freak game but I don't think so. He catches EVERYTHING thrown to him....period! He got POPPED several times and held on to the ball, so forget about him being a wimp. I don't expect 175 yards a game, but he's a playmaker. And it's about time they gave Jason Allen a chance. He showed he's a ball hawk and sure tackler. I don't care what we do the rest of the year, I'm stoked!! In another year or two the Fish will be great!!

So pumped about today's victory. Andre Goodman actually looked pretty solid and jason Allen, as per usual, makes plays on special teams and defense when given the opportunity...The lone blemish in today's game was Phillip Merling. He looks fat, sluggish and appears to pose no threat whatsoever. He has no motor and makes mental mistakes. Imagine how solid our defense would be if we had selected Brandon Flowers. He's making plays!! but I'm so encouraged by what I'm seeing. Look at the numbers, Chad Pennington is playing like a pro bowler. Joey porter is a defensive player of the year candidate. In the upcoming games we have to give ronnie the ball more. He has 40 carries in 3 games. He'll need much more if we're gonna continue to win. Also, I loved the wildcat wrinkle where they have fasano in the backfield. We'll be in the hunt all season
