Dolphins lose disappointing one to Texans, 29-28

Houston, we have a problem.

The Texans shredded the Dolphins defense for much of the day, then stuck a knife in the team's heart with a 3 yard run with three seconds to play as the Dolphins lost to Houston today, 29-28.

Forget about the Dolphins never beating the Texans in four tries now. Other than today's loss, that's just history.

What this loss means is that Miami is not a good team. Not yet anyway.

That was the mood in the locker room after the game.

Players understand this team still has a ways to go. But that doesn't diminish the sting. That was obvious when I reminded Vonnie Holliday the team isn't on a one-year program.

"That only depends on who you ask," he said dejectedly.

Anyway, discuss...

A good team wins that game...80 yards to go with less than 2 minutes on the clock??? Tank the season, get another strong draft focusing on our porous defense and we're in business. I know this Fins fans will have no expectations of this team in '08. Go Fins in '09!!!

SUCKED TO SEEE THEM LOOSE LIKE THAT BUT RATHR SEE THAT HEN GETTING BLOWN OUT. anyone who thought we where gona kill the texans where prety stupid this team had a rough shedule. but still sucked and i broke my ceiling fan an now i gotta fix it so it sukcs that much more.WTF

This is the reason why Miami needs a CB in the first round of the draft. We need a consistent secondary and with the bums that we have in the secondary we can't win games that a sorry qb like shaub throws for 300+.Lets go Jenkins(Ohio state)

THis game does not hinge on the secondary - it was a total team loss. We were not a strong running team today. OUr special teams were really bad - far worse than our secondary. Our Defense was not completely shutting down the run and we did not get consistent pressure. Also - with 3 seconds left we should have called our last time out on defense once we saw them line up empty back field to give us more time to think about situation.

I agree with krueg, we are still building for the future this team needs atleast one more year. I do think that we need to get a solid #1 reciever to compliment the rbs and the tes are playing well. Our best Wr is Camarillo and he is a #2 at best. I think that we need to go after Roy Williams who is still young at 26, renegotiate his contract and give up a #2 draft pick and Hagan or Wilford which everone they want let them take their pick, hell give em both, they both suck anyway! I know that everybody says that this isn't a good move because he will not help much this year but like we are saying we are atleast a year away and if we sign him long term and bring him in now he can learn the offense and build chemistry for next season and we can possibly go into '09 with some more momentum since our Wr now are virtually invisible!
That is just my take let me know what you think Armando.
Go Phins!!

I was disappointed in the loss but still proud in how we played. If they play hard and lose it is something I can handle.....

I am frustrated in Miami not having Ginn returning everything. I don't understand it he is better than Bess.

I also feel Miami still can win 4 out of their next five games and they will still be in the race.....

One this is sure, they are a better team than last years team.

Good game to watch just not a good ending....

Major mental let down, this is going to hurt this dolfan for at least the up coming week. I mean we pretty much held houston in check till the final drive (scoring wise) tahe away the punt return we win GOOOOOOOOO FINNNNNNNNNNS!!!!!!!

Prior to the last second touchdown we lost the lead twice all day, and both times the offense drove the length of the field for a touchdown. we had a a 5 point lead with under 2 minutes to play. 4th and 10 from their own 30 with 1:30 or so on the clock. And this IDIOT is going to try and tell me this one is NOT on the secondary? Our run defense was outstanding all day. Buy a clue. What game were you watching??? Fins had multiple chances to win this game. That's why it is hard to turn the corner in the NFL. It doesn't happen overnight. It takes time to learn how to win. I thought we lost the game when Sparano decided not to go for it on 4th&1 at midfield, on the road, with the lead, against a bad team with a chance to put it away, for a team trying to learn how to win. They gave away the field position on 1 play anyway because our secondary is terrible. On a positive note, this team is night and day better than last year, and it's only a matter of time until they take that next step. Keep the faith...

Major mental let down, this is going to hurt this dolfan for at least the up coming week. I mean we pretty much held houston in check till the final drive (scoring wise) take away the punt return we win GOOOOOOOOO FINNNNNNNNNNS!!!!!!!

Was I the only one who saw the QB sneak coming? I was yelling so hard, I thought Crowder would hear me. Come on, you got to leave someone in the middle! Go Fins. Next week will decide the season. We have to win against the Ravens to have a chance this season. Like to hear what others think about anticipating the QB sneak.

I THINK COACHING WAS THE BIGGEST DOWNFALL TODAY,YES THE DEFENCE WAS POROUS(500 YARDS?)BUT THE LAST DRIVE WAS HORRIBLY COACHED FROM A DEFENSIVE ASPECT!TO ONLY RUSH FOUR WHEN YOU KNOW THEY ARE THROWING EVERY DOWN WAS REALLY STUPID!HOPEFULLY PARCELLS REALLY RIPS SPARANO AND THAT IDIOT PAULIE PISSPANTS OR WHAT EVER HIS NAME IS!HOPEFULLY WIL ALLEN SHUTS UP AND QUITS TALKING LIKE A PRO-BOWLER, HE SUCKS!EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY KNEW SHWAB WAS GOING TO RUN,HOW COULD THEY NOT SEE IT?EVEN SO THERE IS HOPE FOR THE FUTURE NOT LIKE LAST YEAR!

I was not happy they didn’t go for it on that 4th and 1.

Our secondary have problems with big WR's we need to get bigger and tougher on that side of the ball...

Very poor to not realize that the last play would very likely be some type of running play. Glad to see that after a while coaching staff realized that they had to line up in a traditional offensive formation and make plays. - wildcat is a nice change up but you can't expect to gain 20 yards on it each time you use it (especially if you use it every series).

I can't forget to mention that great play early in the game when Ricky (getting the handoff from Ronnie in the wildcat formation) pitches the ball back to Chad for the deep TD pass to Cobbs. That had to be the play of the day.......

Just tainted by the loss.

My wife saw that QB sneak coming.....

Entertaining game. A very winnable game.
I few things stood out to me; I agree with coach P except I’ll ad in that Sporano lost his balls at the ending of the second quarter and the beginning of the third. With three timeouts running out the clock is a bad move. Showing some aggressiveness and confidence in your offence is important there. Sporano displayed that confidence with the play calling resulting in TD’s in the beginning of the game. Same as the 1st drive of the 3rd quarter. 4th and inches the dolphins ought to be a team that believes it can get a 1st down there.

Terrible ball spot in the 4th quarter. Cobbs had the first down. The referee with the play in front of him made a good spot. The referee from access the field overruled and moves the ball a half yard back. That was bad. What happened there?

The last thing is dropped interceptions. I’m not even counting the interception overruled on review. Somebody in the secondary had the ball in their hands on the last drive for Houston.

This team needs a great cover corner and more talent on both offence and defensive line. The O-line was not able to pound the ball with a lead against Houston. The D-line was not able to adequately stop the run and more importantly apply pressure to QB Schaub.

Back down to earth. The Dolphins are a work in progress.
That said this game was in position to win. I echo markeyh The Dolphins can win the next 4.

I didn't see the qb sneak but I thought something was coming out of the backfield before they lined up. Just a mixup with the linebackers for the last second td.
Hey they still fought like Dolphins right to the end. They didn't fold like last year. It was an away game and the Texans were due to win one. They have lost a lot of close ones over the past couple of weeks.
We do need some secondary help but we knew that going in to the season. At least they are fun to watch and the effort is there on every down.

If you even read this remember this statement!! This lose is perfect!! After the last two wins we were begining to show too much arrogance. Now that we know we can still be beat, you will see us close games before the 4th quarter even arrives.

No one backed me when I had Joey Porters back last year, so lets see if Im right again.

We will win our next three gmes!!!

C TEEZY

Yes, dropped int's or missed opportunities to take it was another problem this game.

well it looked like, QB had hole big enough to put large car thru..so i went and made a glass of ice cream and rootbeer..by time i got back game over..what you missed was 4 linemen getting pushed on both sides of line, and a hole big enough fer a few gals to run though, and i said to my self wheres the line backers..QB for texicans had made nice run..without getting hit..even you coulda ran through it..so i was mad and cussed out coaches again..so whats else is new in fins football?? next week will root them on again..why i dont know..just hope coaches wake up to reality.. THEY CALL ME RICK.

i saw the sneak coming.

We could have won the game several times on the last drive.

Goodman was close to picking off that pass,
4th and 10 pass to Andre Johnson, it went thru Bell's hands (it was still a great catch)
and they could have used their final timeout on the 4th and goal which they scored just to see what was going on

But we lost to Houston again for the 4th time and we just have to look forward to Baltimore next week at home and finding ways to score on their defense and get back to 500. thats is a winnable game

I think that the dolphins got robbed on two calls; the fumble and the interception at the end of the game. This is what beat the dolphins. When you are robbed by poor officiating, it causes confusion and kills your will,(what's the use) they are taking everything from us; (you can't fight city hall or referees). I think when it is shown after the game that the referee made a bad call that decided the game, then both teams should get a half game after it is detemined by a committy.

Please cut the following player:

Pennington
Beck
Ginn
Crocker
W. Allen
J. Allen

That is all, ty!

Didnt read your thread cause you only post nonsensical BS...can phathom why in the hell we were rushing 3 and everyone else dropped into coverage on a 4th and 2 but oh well its still a better season than last and we played decent...

Do I really need to reiterate how WEAK $0.01's arm is?

My sons Pee Wee team QB has a stronger arm then 1cent

OUR SECONDARY CANNOT AND WILL NOT MAKE A F***ING PLAY. WILL SOMEBODY STAND UP AND MAKE A F***ING PLAY? SCHAUB THREW THE BALL TO Y. BELL ON 4TH AND 10 AND HE LETS A. JOHNSON TAKE IT FROM HIM. R. HILL DROPS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT ON A TIPPED PASS AND W. ALLEN DROPS ONE IN THE ENDZONE. SAFE TO SAY WE HAVE NO BALLHAWKS JUST DUCKS.

IT'S A SHAME WHEN YOUR DEFENSIVE LINEMEN AND LINEBACKERS ARE MORE ATHLETIC THAN YOUR DEFENSIVE BACKS.

why not just put allen in at cb and see how he does cant be much worse. at least hes a little faster and stronger than the others

Look, this was a hard fought game guys.... We lost because this defense sucks, let's get this on reality, The offense did what they were suppoed to do...

But exactly like the arizona game the secondary was SHREDDED!!! I mean how BAD can a secondary be, WIDE OPEN BIG PLAYS all through out the game, Clearly before ANYTHING, we need a shut down corner like champ bailey or a corner of that status to come to the DOLPHINS NOW if they actually want to make some noise this season, because they can...We obviously need one more run stopping D-Lineman or another run stuffing Line backer, Porter is the only play maker on the defensive front, and Bell is the only one who is decent in the secondary....

I mean come on, let's be serious our corners are little PUNKS man...THEY CANT TACKLE for crap, they cant tackle my grandma, andre johnson just destroyed the fins like he was in practice or playing Christmas football against his fat cousins in their backyard...I mean they look like little kids out there man....

Parcells has to be on the phone right now and willing to part wit something to get a shut down corner thats 6 feet tall, fast, and CAN TACKLE...

Great game and all but what a heartbreaker, this team lost it...

And the FUMBLE, wow that was robbery how thy didnt review it...Would it have been overturned I don't know...Porter got his arm before he went forward with it but the ball came out as if he was throwing it str8, whats the ruling on that???

But not reviewing it and reviewing the INT is just bad calls...

And on the last play HOW DO U NOT PUT A QB SPY?????????? SOME ONE HERE PLEASE ANSWER ME WHAT THE D COORDINATOR WAS THINKING?????

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Miami should put Ginn on the trading block before the deadline ....he is not a good WR and if they don't like him as the return guy why is he here?

Well back to reality. It just proves that this team is not nearly there yet. Our defensive backs are horrible. Can they make a play? Our receivers are just pathetic overall. Ginn is a joke!!! He will not be a dolphin next year. Thanks Cam! Neither will Willford and Hagan. Our speacial teams absolutely s-ck. Other than that I think the rest of the guys are on their way. Can't complain. The loss hurts but we are still rebuilding. I just bet that the secondary and receivers will not be dolphins next year.

NNAMDI ASOMUGHA TO MIAMI DOLPHINS??? who thinks the dolphins should call the dumb A raiders to pull it off...

a 2nd rounder, a 7th rounder, and andre goodman for NNAMDI ASOMUGHA!!!

It's exaclty what we would need....

and yes Ginn is a joke, we should trade him for a linebacker who can make more plays, MAYBE Terrell suggs??? hmmmmm

HAHAHAHAHAh back to reality now, I think those trades can be mad,e suggs is unhappy and the raiders just suck, but asomugha is the ideal corner for Miami, 6-2 only what 27-28? He is exactly what the fins needs man, and the raiders I think would be willing to part for picks because they know they need to rebuild too...

As far as suggs goes, he wants out, and Ginn's trade value won't go up,because he was drafted only last year at number 9, so we can't give him away from crap, but Ginn and another player who we can sacrifice for Suggs would make total sense, He and porter would reek havoc!!!!

cant wait to face this defense next week miss u guys cam.

ALL U FRIGGIN CLOSET FIN FANS.....U ONLI COME OUT WEN THE TEAM DOES GOOD, THEN WEN THEY DO BAD U GO BAK IN AND THEN START BASHIN THEM AGAIN..ITS ONE GAME...HOUSTON IS A GOOD TEAM...I'M STILL OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THIS SEASON..ITS ONE GAME FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! THEY WILL REBOUND STRONGLY....TRUST THAT..THE ONLI WEEK POSITION IS OUR DB'S...SPARANO WILL WORK THEM HARD THIS WEEK AND WE WILL WIN AGAINST THE RAVENS AND FLACCO. WE'RE STILL IN THIS RACE. I DONT WANNA HEAR ALL U HATERS COME OUT NEXT WEEK WEN THE DOLPHINS WIN TALKIN BOUT HOW GOOD THEY R AND U ALWAYS KNEW THEY WERE GOOD.....NAW I DONT WANT NONE OF THAT...IF UR A HATER STAY A HATER!

1. Ronnie Brown could have stopped at the one and ran the clock out, one of the vets smiley, pennington should have picked up on that like runyan did in philly but i dont hold that against Brown.
2. The coaching staff should have called a timeout after seeing the Texans formation on 4th down for the game, big mistake.
3. We abandoned the wildcat and got too conservative late, texans were stacking 8 in the box.
4. The offense's inability to establish consistent drives really gassed and fatigued the defense, it showed.
5. Special teams is killing us-patriots, chargers, texans all got back in the game on big plays on ST. bess fumble etc.

We are what we thought we would be right?
2-3, i would have taken that for 5 games in, we just have to sustain longer drives late in games like the chargers game, so our defense doesn't get worn out. plus the defense was ballin' the last 2 games so i'll give them a pass on this one, with an inexperianced joe flacco next week, if we lay and egg on d then we can complain, but if we handle the ravens we will be 3-3, not bad! as long as we answer after a loss like this, i'll be satisfied.
The secondary as bad as they've been in the past and how they get handled by big recievers, they have been in position to make all the plays, they just can't catch or catch a break for that matter. Not saying we don't need an upgrade but they have been all over the recievers on these big plays they are just coming down with the ball. very frustrating.

Coach shoulda had Ronnie fall down on the 2 yard line instead of scoring that last touchdown. Got the first and then ran the clock down. Kick a FG if we can't get in with 4 more..but giving them the ball back with 1:45 was bad. Oh well, hindsight. Still left me feeling like we have a way better team than last year...Still some work, but were playin ball at least. Sucked ass though...really sucked.

The Dolphins seemd to abandon the spread formation when they were in their base to the extent they used it in their first victory in New England, which bottled up the running lanes & minimized Brown & William's effectiveness.

But inspite of that, thay still should have won. I think that the bad call on Martin's catch which should have given the Dolphins a first down was critical enough to turn the victory over to the Texans.Martin clearly had a first down, & the spot was just lousy.

Here is a game in which a bad call most likely changed the outcome of the game, turning the change of possession resulting from the Miami punt into a Houston TD.

Winston

why did they put TED GINN in the last kick return with 3 seconds left??? It was basically saying, hey kick returns in the first 3 quarters don't mean anything, but since we are down in the 4th quarter lets Put TED GINN back there because we need a big play...TED GINN should be back there every kick off return, He is a playmaker. I like BESS a lot, but he's not the best returner. I predict TED GINN'S best year will be his 4th year, when HENNE comes in. Cause if Pennington keeps playing like this. He will be the starter next year!!!!

Say what you want about Pennington..offense wasn't the problem in this game.

Very disappointing loss.....which shows that this team is still very much a work in progress with many needs...starting in the defensive backfield, the wide receivers, special teams.........

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY WE SHOULDNT GIVE UP HOPE, READ MY BELOW STATEMENTS

REASONS WHY THE DOLPHINS ARE STILL POST SEASON CONTENDERS!!!

*eveyone knew the dolphins were gonna lose some more games this year, but it just came sooner than we thought an against a team that is much better than thier record shows. the texans led the colts by three scores in the 4th and only lost because of rosenfelds( x dolphin 3rd string qb. before that they went into overtime against a tough jags team.

*yes we did lose today but
keep in mind that the patriots also lost.

*even though our overall records are different the whole afc east is 1-1 in division games(except bills who are 0-0)

*if we win next week and the jets and patriots lose then our overall record will be tied 3-3.

* even though the bills are 4-1, they still have yet to play a division game and are currently 0-0 in the afc east

MORE REASONS WHY WE STILL STAND A CHANCE!!!

* The phins needed this loss right before the oct 14 trade deadline so they can really know what they should look for. what better time to have our weaknesses(DB's, WR's)exposed so that we can address them before its to late.

*first year head coach also took something from this game. TAKE THE CHANCE ON 4TH AND 1 WHEN AT MID FIELD! when the big tuna has his talk with him monday before practice i dont think we are gonna have that problem anymore.

* guys this was just a bad game. dont forget this was the same defence that shut down randy moss then a weak later shut down LT.
remember all those seasons that we would beat the monster patriots teams when no one else could. we wer'nt good, we just naturally play good against the pats. thats the same with the texans. they just naturally play good against us.

REASON WHY RONNIE BROWN SHOULD GET MORE TOUCHES!!!!

*if ronnie brown is averaging 5.1 yards by the end of the half then does he only have 6 carries in the first half.

*the coaching staff is trying to build rickies stock back up so he can be worth something in the future but lets face it. ronnies younger, more hungry and flat out better. they should not share equal carries. put the ball in ronnies hands on more 1st down plays and 3rd n short plays.

*chad is a very accurate QB but he needs to learn to look for the fisrt down marker. he threw too many balls to players that wasnt even close to the marker on third downs( which is y we only converted 2 out of 12. give the ball to ronnie on third and short

* chad is known for having a weak arm( which is why they didnt sling it on the last play of the game. it wouldnt have made it). even when cobbs was alone down the field he still had to stop and wait for the ball.

* so with the fact that penny isnt known for big plays but just accuracy, the ball should be in the hands of the guy who CAN make big plays. R.BROWN!( why does this guy only touch the ball 13 times is beyond me!)

Can't believe the negativity. Houston is a much better team than their record would indicate and it was on the road. The Dolphins are much better than last year, but still have a long way to go. The loss to Arizona is looking better each week too :-)

OK, everyone knows our secondary blows but other than Porter, the D as a whole looked bad. Somebody said "porous".....can't think of a better word.

Different point of view from me- I believe the DOlpins are on the way back. Put it in perspective - we lost on the road to a team that on paper is more talented than us and quite frankly, we dominated the entire game.

Give it a rest - this team is playing their butts off and will win 6 or more games this year easy. We should secure a top 12 pick in the draft, coupled w/ two round two picks, we should be able to bolster our defense a bit and get a play maker at WR.

I hate losing, but will say this team is fun to watch as they grow in confidence each week. And BTW our schedule is pretty soft over the next couple of weeks too.

Go Fins!

I say one problem is ,channing crowder.
he is no zack thomas.
on the run plays he over ran the play leaving the cutback open almost every time.

andre goodman needs a lesson in tackling.
just about all day he was having trouble with there receiver, forgot his name, they needed to give him some safety help.

this is for coaching staff, you need to go for it on 4th and a half yard.playing coservatively is for teams that know they will be in the playoffs,we kneed to take chances to try to get there,we have nothing to lose.
I think that they should take the prevent def . out of the play book.

the fins are on the way back and aren't there yet,and we should expect to lose some like this.what we really need is to beat our divisional teams, one loss to the texans is not a season ender, miami just needs to continue what there doing and try to adjust and improve each week with the talent they have, and improve in the draft.
go miami against the ravens.

On the last play, I said "watch out for the QB draw". Then I saw the way the Dolphin defense lined up and I said "absolutely a QB draw". Very obvious. Would have been nice to call a timeout on that fourth down, but Sparano pulled a Cameron and wasted it on a replay. There was a play earlier that he should have challenged that the Dolphins would have won.

I was at the game in Houston. Miami let this game slip away. The crowd was chanting WE WANT SAGE affter every bad play by the Texans - even if it wasn't Schaub's fault. Pennington has done a good job, but he is not the answer. He didn't attempt a pass longer than 10 yards down field all day (Other than the wild cat TD play). The Texans knew it and had 8 men in the box all day. Even if you don't expect to make a play down field, you have got to show it a few times a game. THROW THE BALL DOWN FIELD!

the stats are wrong! we had a fumble that know one saw. it came with 50 seconds and 3 timeouts left in the half. yes, Sparano dropped the ball! you want the players to play with urgency but you run the clock out before the half? then, as if your defense were the killer bees you lack the urgency again and chose to punt over 4th and a blade of grass? a 1 point game kills everything that was building. at the end of the game were you saying to yourself "why did i throw those 50 seconds and 3 timeouts away?"
bummer

Well, This one stung. The Texans a re a much better team than there record suggests. I didnt expect to come away with a win in this one. But, in the fourth qtr. my hopes were high. And it was twice in the second half not once, 4th and an inch, we didnt go for it? 4th and a yard we didnt go for it? Not sure why they made that call. And I too saw the QB draw coming on the final play. our final play, not that the outcome would have been different, I would have put Henne in, he has a bigger arm.

Tony, your a good coach, but YOU lacked urgency. you know we need that extra minute at the end of almost every game. where was our hurry-up offense? 1 minute is 1 minute, and even better when you have 3 time-outs to boot! if we can score in a hurry-up 1 minute/3 time-out offense, since when does it matter when it is used. just as long as it's used! the correct answer here is coach by example! coach with urgency, play with urgency!

A couple of points here.

One, why didnt the Fins call a time out when they saw the middle wide open for a draw on that last play? I mean Coaching 101 says "Never play M2M defense on the goal line". I'm sure many fans saw the QB draw coming, why didn't the Defense?
Two, No matter what WR we pick up, it doesn't matter if we have a QB that can't throw the ball over 30 yards with any authority. I love Chad Pennington and all but the Offense will be a lot more dangerous when Henne takes over. The Fins haven't tried to go deep in a couple of games.

Agree with C Teezy... after the last 2 wins the team had gotten a little bit too big for their boots, borderline over confident. However, can you blame them after last year.

Anyway. Next week is one tough game. Seeing how they respond after the loss to the Texans will really show the resolve of the team and also will speak loudly about Sparano's leadership..

Next week is a smack them in the mouth game, running game will be severly challenged. OL will show where they really are.

Listen guys,

I know the coach made some mistakes in the game. He is a rookie coach and hes learning on the job. He will get better as they go and with more advise from Parcells.

The fins are going to be alright, I think theirs times we see the fins win a couple of games vs New england and San Deigo and we think DAM THIS TIEAM IS LEGIT. But reality is they are still re-building, BUT ARE MUCH IMPROVED THIS YEAR.

The fins are going to win between 6 and 8 games this year. It is what it is, this team needs at least 2 more years of SOLID DRAFTS and they will be contenders in the AFC. Theres a reason parcells took a 4 year deal. Cause thatS what it will take for the fins to be back on the map in reguards to Super Bowl Contenders.

Also does ANYONE KNOW the status on Will Allen??? He suffered a knee injury and theirs rumors he may have SERIOUS damage to his left knee. THAT WOULD BE A BIG BLOW.

MONDO ANY NEWS ON WILL ALLEN???

Here we go again with the negative comments after a loss. Most of us don't think this team is going to win more than 8 games at best. So knowing that, we have to lose at least 8 and road games are where they usually happen.

It was a tough loss. The Texans' big WRs were a mismatch for us. We had a chance to win the game and couldn't get it done. It was an entertaining game though.

I don't want to appear naive, but something has always troubled me. It's this notion I read so often on these message boards that if the Dolphins can just plug their holes (i.e. get a good cover defensive back and an explosive #1 wide receiver) then they'll be a contender. Forgive me, but aren't there 31 other teams looking for the same thing? And let's say, as luck may have it, that in next year's draft we do indeed get a magnificent WR and DB? Things are never static. What the Dolphins excelled in in 2008 we might perform poorly in in 2009 (e.g. Pennington gets injured and we have no experienced, quality QB; or, Ronnie Brown goes down, or for whatever reason, simply isn't as effective). I mean, I understand the argument - you draft to fill a need. But there just seems to be this ridiculous notion that all the other teams are standing still, not improving their squads.

What we really need is consistently good drafts over a number of years, so our team is a mix of youth and experience, and doesn't collapse like the good Dolphin teams (1997-2003) when everyone seemed to get old in 2004.

Carmine Ragusa, you don't draft to fill a need all the time. You draft the best players available. Throughout the draft you do eventually end up with players at positions of need, but you don't reach for those needs with your top picks. Teams that do that usually suffer the consequences for years.

We have a need at CB and WR and we still need depth on the OL and at LB. We may not get the CB or WR in the 1st round, we might take a LB because he was the best player on the board. We might get the CB with one of our 2nds and the WR with our 3rd. Maybe we take another position with our second 2nd.

I was at this game, and I was in Houston in 07 and 06 when Miami came here, and while it was a crushing loss, 08 was different. This was the first time I left the game without thinking, "Man my team sucks." Yes, we lost, but we had big plays on offense, put up some points, forced turnovers, and was scored late to take the lead. This is the best team Miami fans have seen in a long time, and it's only getting better.

Let get this straight.

This week the Fins aren't very good and last game we were good?

Between parity and the Fins rebuilding the team is going to lose some and win some.

This team is not a finished product.

To analyze every game like this is kinda silly.

I think we can say this team is on its way to being a playoff team.
