Would Keyshawn help Miami receivers corps?

The Dolphins have begun their preparations for the Buffalo game in earnest today.

I can report to you nose tackle Jason Ferguson was not working during the portion of practice open to the media. I can also report that former Jets, Cowboys, Bucs, and Panthers receiver Keyshawn Johnson, currently an ESPN analyst, was at practice.

Relax. He was not in uniform. He was simply visiting.

But this being an interactive blog, I wonder what you guys think of the idea of adding Johnson. Again, it is not happening unless something extremely freaky happens. But do you think the fanciful addition of Johnson, a guy who is 36 years old and has not played since 2006, could be an upgrade for the Dolphins?

This really would not be a commentary on Johnson. It would obviously be a measure of your confidence in the Dolphins' current receivers.

Beyond the question about whether Johnson would be any sort of upgrade, one has to address the issue of which receiver would have to go if Johnson were added. So if you say Johnson would be an upgrade, you have to tell me which of Miami's current receivers -- Davone Bess, Ted Ginn Jr., Ernest Wilford, Brandon London, Greg Camarillo or Derek Hagain -- would you jettison first?

Remember, this is not really happening (I think). Johnson was just visiting with old friend Bill Parcells today. But what if?

I don't think KJ would be of any upgrade. Yet, I still think they should jettison Wilford.

I want Keshawyn as much as ESPN wanted you...MESHAWYN no way!

Mando,

Give me facts!!!!!! Things that are going to happen, not what if's. Whats the point to this mando???

If you got nothing to write about THEN DONT WRITE IT

Don't sign him. Cut wilford. And ignore the idiots above Mando. Fun stuff.

Wow Mando, that's a stretch! First off, I doubt the Dolphins will bring in ANYONE over 30 yrs old (just look at what happened this year). Parcells and Co. want youth (and I agree). So right there I think it's not even a thought. But, if by some crazy chance the Dolphins did bring in Key, I think absolutely, 100% that the first to go would be Ernest Wilford (what a waste of 6mil). However, I'd rather upgrade on defense (CB, NT) this year if possible (I think they're in more need of talent than the O). We can live with Camarillo and the TE's making all the catches this year, I doubt we'll survive much longer with the shabby Defense that showed up the last 2 games.

ill take kj get ridd of wilford.trade john beck for kellen winslow

Simply put, NO.

Are you kidding me?
What if YOU got fired?
Would we as fans miss your
"blogs" and "columns"?
Would we even notice?

I can't believe that you are even allowed
to give your opinion to the public and
also actually get paid to do this. It's
either one of two things.

1. YOU ARE truly this bad of a writer --
therefore I feel sorry for you.
2. You just don't try. Which makes a lot
of sense being that your writing has zero
substance.

Jeesh, tough crowd today. Anyways, KJ would be a horrible addition. I would rather see Hagan and Wolford given a chance to perform in live action - then make an assessment. As you know, some guys don't practice well.

Meanwhile, Ginn should be relegated to kick-off and pount returns and see what transpires. Not much happening with our receiver corps, Time to do something different. Ya listening Tony?

ok, calm down guys. get rid of wilford, yes.

hire keyhole as a receiver coach. how much would that cost to beat his espn salary?

I would prefer if we brought in Leslie Sheppard, Derrius Thompson, or Brian Gilmore. Maybe we can bring back Jeff Ogden for punt returns? Mando on a serious note, I was critical of bringing in Bill Parcells, because I was unimpressed with his personnel decisions throughout his career. After the first few weeks, I was thinking this draft is a success, however when looking at it, Long has been unspectacular, but not awful, Henne we dont know, Langford seems to have tailed out, Merling hasnt done much, Murphy who they traded up for cant beat out Ndukwe or other journey men, Wilford doesnt dress for games, and Crocker gets cut today, so has the opinion changed for you, as far as their ability to determine talent?

Doesn't that list of wide receivers send shivers down your spine? Doesn't it strike fear in the hearts of defensive backs?

Mando, why don't you do an article on why Joe Robbie Stadium (or whatever the hell it's called - Pro Player Stadium? I Wanna-Take-A-Dump Stadium?) is absolutely pathetic for football? Oh why oh why did Miami have to build one of the last multi-purpose stadiums in North America? When you build a stadium both for football and baseball, it invariably SUCKS for both sports. Fans are far too removed from the action. Gimme the old, decrepit Orange Bowl any day. The fans were right on top of the action.

And while we're at it, how come I never hear anyone comment on the 1972 Miami Dolphins' uniforms? Is that the only time in history that there was no consistency to a team's uniform? Certain players (like Griese) had no stripes on their sleeves and slightly bigger numbers on their chest, and other players (like Mercury Morris) had stripes on their sleeves and slightly smaller numbers on their chest. Take a look at some pictures from that year. You'll literally see in the same picture Dolphins players with different uniforms. Must have been a transition year.

And while we're on the subject of unimportant, irrelevant things, don't you hate when you have to defecate after your morning shower? Sometimes the feces breaks off and you can wipe and wipe and wipe and never get clean. The one thing Europe does right (probably the only thing) is the bidet. I wish they would become universal here.

And another thing, why is Lauren Bacall considered one of the great beauties of all time? I don't see it. Shannen Doherty - now in the 1992-1993 season Beverly Hills 90210, she was REALLY beautiful.

Finally, don't you hate how the internet affords cretins the ability to post their insane ramblings in complete anonymity?

Yeah, let's sign KJ. Then let's bring Warren Sapp out of retirement. We could use the help on the D-Line. Oh, but wait, there's more. I saw John Elway playing golf at Doral with some executives of the Dolphins. Let's sign Elway to a one year deal so he can throw to KJ.

RRRRRRIIIIIIIIGGHHHHHHHTTTTTT!

Ask mgmt. what they want to do then do the opposite.

Please cut the following players:

Pennington
Beck
Ginn
W. Allen
J. Allen
Lehan

That is all, thank you!

And again; more proof that Gaymondo does not deserve the job he has. More nonsense from a guy that is pretending to be a sports writer; wonder why I never see you on ESPN...?

I agree w/getting rid of Wilford, although other than Camarillo, he is the best blocking WR on the team.

And Mando...you are a crappy writer. But whatever. Its cute that you made your assignment quota by writing a "what if" article.

Three words - Chris Carter Experiment

Its a good thing our fans are not running the show

Mando...
What keeps me coming back for more are these details that everyone else neglects to post so thank you.
No KJ is not welcome as a player... we just don't need aged help right now
Plus my guess no matter how close they are that Bill would rather not have a media junkie like KJ on the team.

WILFORK is not a bust
J.ALLEN is not a bust
HAGENS is also not a bust

These are players that need some extra encouragement, these are players that need to feel absent from the field to see what they are really made of. Any one of these players can be standouts in our organization as long as they continue to be pushed and NOT disrespected. Tony has never thrown these players under the bus, and he should never unless they disrespect the team.

FANS should never disrespect you Mando because you bring us the news first... if something goes down I know it from you. I know your forced into writing everyday and sometimes its good to consider posibilities.

We considered KJ during the pre-season more of a tutor and mentor to these young guys but that time has come and gone. Plus I like to see the guy on ESPN he's a smart football player.

Thanks Mando and I'll catch up with you tommarow

Geez, Mando and you wonder why people are so harsh towards you.

1. No, Key does not upgrade this unit, he was a shell of his former self two years ago and now he's spent a year and a half away from the game, Much like the other poster said about the Cris Carter experiment.

2. Stop banging on the WR's, it's been said now numerous times how many times Ginn and even Camerillo are getting open downfield but Check down Penny is too afraid to throw the ball. You want to right a story theres your story, stop with BS like this and call out Penny for his comments postgame, saying he audibled to a run on 3rd and 11 in the red zone because he was too scared at making mistake. Horrible.

Not a good idea.

If Keychain was never a great receiver in his prime, he certainly won't be if he came out of retirement. If players held on to the ball, made YAC, made people miss, and made big plays, they would garner more respect and make defenses worry.

If we had a QB that was a threat to win a game, not just manage it, it would make a huge difference.

Maybe hire him as a consultant, but its not like we have a Calvin Johnson or a young player who is going to be the future of our receiving corps. We have a bunch of stringers who will be fighting for playing time the rest of their careers.

I mean, looking at that Baltimore game, there were a few easy passes that were dropped and really was the difference.

good post spad...if they wanted to bring keyshawn they should have in the begining...too late for the cry baby who thinks he is the greatest wr of all time.
Penny can't throw deep , thus Ginn cant play his game, Ginn will never be a possesion receiver but will thrive as deep threat with Henne.....Think Lee Evans , good production with not many catches.

The 1972 helmets logos were not consistent either some have the dolphin's head on the orange starburst and some helmets have the dolphin's head under the starbust

uh... I a word...NO! Washed up malcontent.

WILFORK is not a bust?
J.ALLEN is not a bust?
HAGENS is also not a bust?

THANKS for the laugh this afternoon. Not busts? LOL!

Good thing idiots like Vic are here to suk off dopes like 'mando, important inside info like Johnson visiting the team sure gives us reason for hope. I'd rather know the guest list at practice instead of who is actually doing what on the field. Winning is more about who was there watching practice instead of what players are doing at practice...fascinating stuff...the kind of stuff that brings optimism.

Idiot blogger and the morons who lap up his stuff...get a clue!

the long ball can help the receivers not keyshawn..

Good thing we have doomers like Blog Hater to tell us how stupid we all are for being optimistic and how dumb the blog is when it talks about anything other than what he wants to talk about....
Good thing he hates it but keeps coming back to tell us, otherwise we might never get a clue...

Keyshawn has caught as many passes as Hagan and Wilford last few games. At least keyshawn earned a paycheck the last few weeks.

Man, some people are seriously stupid...Money Jacket, Mr742, etc...I live in Seattle, hunger for information, news, gossip, rumors, anything, including a damn blog, which is just a freaking opinion to begin with, but if ya dont want to read it..dont. Why waste the energy to be negative. I did get some NEWS from this, about Fergerson, who is HUGE for us in this game, against Lynch.
I love listening to other peeps opinions, just get annoyed with the ones that come on to just slam beat writers. Would you prefer that there were NO beat writers?Maybe you think your ass could do better some how? If yes, then why arent you? Worthless dialogue....
But on the lighter side, no, dont want KeyShawn, 5 years ago, sure, now..no. Stick with who we have, and go draft one in the 2nd or 3rd round...as far as Wilford...we were all excited about the signing when it happened..what has happened since, quite frankly, i am lost...he has always been a good producer, not great, but solid..so not sure if he just got on their bad side, but I do hope for 6 million reasons that he can turn it around, or he could be traded at season's end for something...so stick with what we have for now....love Camarillo though!!

Keyshawn is to old and slow. Wilford would be my pick of the WR because he is the old and slowest so it would be a true player swap with hopefully some one who could get open and catch the in the end zone.

Let's pass on Keyshawn, more tight end than wide-out. Miami isn't hurting in the tight end position. I would rather sign an old timer WR that has recently played versus someone out of the league for almost two seasons now. Keep getting younger, and better.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME KEYSHAWN. THERE IS NOTHING ELESE TO WRITE ABOUT BUT SUCK ASS LOUD MOUTH NON PRODUCING KEYSHAWN. I WISH PEOPLE COULD SEE THAT JASON ALLEN, E. WILFORD ARE PIECES OF CRAP PLAYERS AND PROBALY WILL NOT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE ARENA LEAGUE NEXT YEAR WHEN THEY GET CUT. IF THEY WHERE SO GOOD THEN THEY WOULD HAVE OF BEAT OUT ALL OF OUR OTHER SORRY ASS DB. (HILL, W. ALLEN, CROCKER CUT, BELL, OR WHO EVER IS BACK THERE)ALL THESE GUYS ARE BELOW AVERAGE AND THATS THE MAIN REASON WE SUCK. OUR OFFENSE IS ACUALLY PLAYING GOOD.

What we need is a #1 WR and Keyshawn is too old to be a #1. We already have plenty of backups.

No way on Keyshawn....

Yeah.. what my neighbor to the North said! :)

Keyshawn doesn't make any sense. What's he going to do for the team, get them in the playoffs? I don't think so. He's not the same player he was 5 years ago.

The Dolphins need to target a top free agent WR like TJ Houshmandazeh. He's in his prime and would immediately make us better on offense. He's also a good character guy and a leader.

No way to Keyshawn. Even if the entire recieving corps was hurt, no Keyshawn. Turn Ricky into a wideout. No Keyshawn.

He is old, probably slow, has a big mouth and would be a disruption on the team.

Besides he would get hurt after the 1st game anyway.

Ginn will come around.

Dito on the Seattle and Oregon fan comments. If you don't like the blog or the writer don't read it. If you choose to read it and don't have anything constructive to add, don't respond. If you have nothing better to do but slam the blogger, readers, or team, STFU and get a life.

No to Keyshawn.. Let's throw the ball to London on occasion. Our WR's are not as bad as people believe, we need to wait until Henne is deemed ready so we can air the ball out. Pennington has brought much needed confidence and swagger to the O, unfortunately his weak arm limits the amount of touches the WR's will get. Ginn, London, Camarillo, even Hagen will look much better with a strong armed QB instead of a "game manager" who checks down on 90% of his throws. The coaching staff will determine when Henne is ready, until then you play with the cards you're dealt. One thing for sure, Pennington has been a huge upgrade, but he makes our WR's look bad with his lack of arm strength..

NO F'ING WAY TO ME-SHAWN

Ernest Wilford

No

Where is Paul Warfield when you need him?

The Dolphins are 11th in offensive yardage per game. When is the last time we could say that?

The downside of that is we're only 23rd in scoring averaging 20 points per game. The defense is 21st in yards allowed and 15th in points allowed.

So we've got some improving to do but Rome wasn't built in a day.

I think he could provide an education for the young receivers and thats about it. If he came in at the beginning of training camp then he would be an asset. Chris Carter was way better than KJ and he didnt do very well for the Phins when he left Inside the NFL to play. If I remember correctly he dropped a TD that hit him in the hands in the endzone. I think it was against the Vikings too. Anyway, signing KJ....NO. If he is willing to come around and drop some knowledge that would be great.

I don't even think KJ would help teach young WRs. That's what coaches are for. This mentor stuff only works when you're a part of the team. KJ is not a part of this team and he shouldn't be. His playing days are over.

The WR position needs to be addressed in the offseason and it will. Along with the secondary.

We addressed the OL, DL and QB in 08. 09 is for DB and WR. Not saying we don't need anything else, but we need to start there.

Why would you take a has been like Meeshawn?. He was a problem back in the days when he COULD play. This team has to go with youth. I remember another whiner who tried to make a comeback with the Dolphins. Chris Carter.. anyone remember his uneventfull career in Miami.
Let them both stay where they are in thier suits and ties talking @#$%. They seem to be great in the talking roles.

What have you been smoking Mando? What is the point of discussing Keyshawn? Okay... how about if the Fins were to bring in Peter Pan? He can fly over the dbacks and catch everything thrown his way...that should open up the running game...don't you think so?

Please put the bong down Mando!

"Okay... how about if the Fins were to bring in Peter Pan? He can fly over the dbacks and catch everything thrown his way...that should open up the running game...don't you think so?"

LMFAO!

Is Peter Pan a girl or a boy because I don't think women are allowed to play in the NFL? I know the name is Peter, but come on. Women play him in plays. LOL

LOL. Ok it wuld make sense but....he shuldn't b playing bkuz he probably won't run past the worst coner in the NFL ("GOODY" or Goodman watever the f--k his name is). Wat he does have is experience that he can bring to next year's rookie receiver. He kan also show Ginn how to talk $h-- so that Ginn and his family can have a lil swagger wen goin in the game. An he kan show Wilford how 2 practice so Wilford kan "katch" 6million dollars on the field. He mite be able to "teach" (if possible) Hagan to catch balls during games. IMHO

The last thing we need is another really old guy like Keyshawn, (which is hard for me to say because I'm 46), Johnson signed as a stop gap. We need to build for the future with youth. If that means waiting for the draft next year and being mediocre this year, so be it. We've been bad for so long now what's another few months going to hurt. We have been plugging up holes in the dike with bubble gum for ten years now and where has it gotten us? Stinkersville! Youth and talent. That is the key to a good team for the future years.

It would be like Ricky last year. In one game, take a big hit, then sit for the season. Keyshawn gets what he always wanted anyway right now on ESPN. A national audience and the spotlight. Why would he come back for more punishment? Why would the Dolphins take a player age 36 who has been out of football for a couple of years. It just wouldn't make sense for either side.

Slow news day?

KJ would help for sure but not in becoming a contender right away rather from a mentoring position. I think that we will need to continue to build on our wide receivers. Don't give up Wilford he is a great player if he chooses to be... I'd dump ? London ? who is London?

sorry mando, but i didnt mean to read your crappy story. I just typed in miami dolphins news like I always do, and clicked on the link, and it was your pos story. your not going to start saying what if to every person who makes an appearance at a dolphins practice are you, cause I watched a practice a couple of weeks ago. so what if they sign me, who should they drop, they should drop you as a writer. you should be writing on how ty law is still available and how we have 6 million dollars deactivated every week that could buy us a ty law. you should be writing on how miami is the worst third down team in the league, both offensively, and defensively. our only hope of converting a third and 7 is to hope our defense is on the otherside of the ball.

i think the same about adding keyshawn as i did when they added chris carter...boooooo!!!! theses guys think they can still play untill they get chin checked buy demarcus ware or troy polamalu. then reality sets in and we're out two receivers (as you stated, one current WR would have to go) and the team is out however many millions they pay this washed up drama queen. that being said, if he is added i would dispose wilford AAAND hagan. probably hagan first though. neither one is producing and both are takin up space on the bench.

Mando, please bring facts to the table, if that is to happen, I think It will bring experience to the receivers. Wilkford has to go, and Fasano needs to get more balls thrown at him, Chan needs to get him involved on the offense, also, I have one question for you, why have't you pick Miami to win in any of it's games in the pig skin challenge? shame on you Armando!

They already tired this "what if" with Chirs Carter some years back. You member.

I like how some of you believe that Mando is doing us some type of charity service. He gets paid to cover the fins, it's the fans and the readers who he works for, especially when you are a local beat writer. You act like he's somehow doing us a favor. He's got a built in audience and without readers, there is no Mando. Is it really so much to ask, that the people covering the sport, actually know what the hell they are talking about? Is it so much to ask, to give the audience the type of information they want? We don't want these type of "What if's" especially when anyone with a little bit of football intelligence, knows that it's a rediculous question to pose especically nearly half way through the season. We don't want the lame "what if's" and we don't want the BS National Enquiror type of coverage, that does nothing to help this team. More details and facts are what we want, more information on the individual players and coaches on this team. Not stir the pot, or posing stupid questions about "IF" a 36 year old WR, who has been away from the game for over a year and half, who wasn't great at getting seperation...Can help this team.. I mean seriously, is this the best that we can expect to get? I want meat and potatoes, not fluff and conspiracy.

P.S. Mando, I'm not trying to jump down your throat. I've actually defended you in the past and think you take too much heat at times, but this type of crap is the reason why. I'd hope that being around this game as long as you have, that you would know it's a rediculous question to ask. I'm not sure if you try to dumb down the coverage on purpose or what. Omar is the only one in the local market who at least seems to attempt to get in depth, with more details and talk about X's and O's, schemes, techniques etc. Believe me the audience can handle it, they can also learn from it. That's what more of us are hungry for.
