Patriots beat Dolphins 48-28 to hurt Miami hopes

The Dolphins were hoping to make a statement today. Unfortunately for them, the statement they made was that their defense wasn't up to the task of staying with Matt Cassell.

Matt Cassel.

The New England backup quarterback looked every bit as good as Tom Brady has looked in the past in leading New England to a 48-28 victory. Cassel completed 30 of 43 passes for 415 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

When it was over, Cassel was celebrating with his receivers after New England's final TD with 37 seconds to play. For good reason, I guess. Randy Moss had eight catches for 125 yards and three TDs -- two of them caught against Jason Allen, the other against Andre' Goodman.

Wes Welker had eight catches for 120 yards.

The Patriots had 530 total yards. That is the most allowed by the Dolphins this season. The previous high was 485 yards allowed against Houston.

So the Dolphins didn't fight very well on defense although Channing Crowder got ejected for fighting. In fact, Crowder was ejected along with New England offensive tackle Matt Light.

The Miami offense had only modest success keeping the team in the game. Quarterback Chad Pennington completed 24 of 41for 341 yards. He also had three touchdown passes. Pennington did throw an interception that New England converted into a score.

Miami is now 6-5 and sinks to third place in the AFC East, tied with the 6-5 Buffalo Bills. The Jets are 8-3 and New England is 7-4.

No playoffs this year folks. Get over it. We're just not "there" yet. We still have way too many weaknesses to be considered a true playoff contender. One thing I woulda liked to see more of are some BLITZ packages to throw Cassel off. He was clearly in a zone yet the Dolphins D never seemed to try to make any adjustments.

Armando, see what gets said in the locker room about the referees (Moss pushing off on his last TD, Crowder getting his helmet ripped off, punched on his head and he gets ejected) and that SOB Belichick running it up. The Pats and their coach are still the biggest a@@holes in the NFL.

i hate matt light he is a pu$$ and now i gotta here these pats fans i hate this. but just shows us how bad are secondary is

The PATRIOTS are a cheap and DIRTY team they got beat on the OLINE all day if it weren't for all the NO CALLS I saw holding all GAME long it was ridiculous. They are cheaterS straight up WORST GAME I"VE seen officiated in many years When a receiver has his hands all over a CB isn't that Offensive interference>?????? that call and a couple others damned us

The Beef Sez:WELL MANDO WILL EVER ACCUSE U OF BEING A HOMER

Beef Wishes To Make A Correction:WILL MANDO WE LL NEVER ACCUSE U AS BEING A HOMER

I didn't think Randy Moss committed offensive pass interference on that one call. Either way, the Pats were clearly the superior team and deserved to win this games.

Well we got what we deserved... Cant win this division without being physical and disciplined. They were phisical today but not disciplined. Go back, regroup, and next time you see them Pats return the favor.

Miami can thank Joey "The Idiot" Porter for his stupid comments, dirty playing, and ammunition for the Patriots. Miami is and will always be the halfway house for the NFL's idiots.

Armando sucks balls

"Offense had only modest success", typical glass half empty stuff Mando.

This team was 1-15 last season. We have a good chance to win 10 games this year. That is outstanding. This game will serve to show that we still have a lot of work to do.

Next year if we strengthen at CB, DL, LB, WR and OL with the right guys then we will be a top ten team. I am happy with that sort of progress.

Show some faith and try and put a positive spin on some of your writing, at least occassionally.

Dam you ARmando, you damned us once again

The Beef Asks:WHOS THE BIGGER HOMER,JIM MANDICH FOR HIS ALMOST MANICLE OPPSSION WITH THE DOLPHINS OR DAN DEIRDORFFS HOMOSEXUAL RANTINGS OF HIS MAN LOVE FOR CASSEL,THE BEEFSTER WANTS TO HEAR UR THOUGHTS FOLKS.

If someone would have told us we are 6-5 after 11 games we would have been very happy. Our offense and finally special teams played very good, our defense secondary was what killed us. Ginn continues to show he can be very explosive, just needs to not try to hard at the end and lose focus. Lets hope that Greg C. is ok. Malcom Jenkins or V. Davis at CB for next year and another LB. Go Fins!!

Teddy Bear Ginn is back. Get this guy on the trading block as soon as possible. The guy shys away from every possible hit, even if it means running backwards for 20 yards. When dude hears footsteps, he lets balls go righ through his hands. Give Bess all Ginns balls. It takes balls to catch 'em.

Beef Sez:NO NAME HAVENT HEARD FROM U IN 4 WEEKS.I ONLY HOPE WE WIN THE NEXT 5 GAMES.

Enough about the refs already. Only losers blame the calls. No way Randy Moss committed interference on that play, sorry folks. Gotta agree with Armando-- our pass defense was non-existent. We knew it was weak coming into the season, and if this game told us anything, it still is. I would have also liked to see some variety in the Wildcat formation-- draws up the middle every time, and the Patsies stopped us cold.

Elf, Ginn was trying to make a play at the end of the game and took his eye off the ball. He has not been scared to catch the ball and normally has good hands. With Greg C out and the team behind he tried to do too much, give the guy a break. Look at all the other first or secnd round WR that have done nothing the last two years

Beef Sez:THE BEEFSTERS DISSAPOINTED WITH THE FISH DEFENCE,NOW I KNOW HOW MY WIFE FELT ON OUR WEDDING NITE.

Are you guys REALLY pissed about going 4-1 over our last four games and losing to last year's AFC champ?

Were you even here for the past two years???

Geesh.

Methinks if we had the Titans' record today you haters would be out in full force as well.

When it is not broken, don't try to fix it! The dolphin coaches have not learned that yet. The coaches had the team to practice from last monday till saturday, yesterday. How can the guys play when dumb coaching wants to work them hard ALL week? The previous system was working great; win and the team has teausday off. The smart coaches decided to change that and work the #*@%$# out of the players for this important game! GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS SYSTEM GENIUSES.

We stink. We got lucky six times this year, but we're still the worst team in the league. No more wins this year. 6-10. And we'll draft another bust in the first round in April. Kill me.

Go win at St. Louis and make the rest of the year interesting. Ya never know.

Officials and Patriots team up to beat the Fins!
Headline, Miami Florida..
The Officials helped the Patriots in a Mighty Way to defeat the Miami Dolphins by calling penalties against the that they would NOT think twice about calling against the Patriots! One of the Dolphins Defensive players even had his helmet ripped off and the back of his head beat while his hair was being used to hold him down. The result, Miami player ejected! Moss holds down a Miami Defender, the result, Interference AGAINST MIAMI. Welker catches a pass and a Patriots Receiver holds a Miami Defender to keep the play going, the result, NO CALL. Cassell scrambles out of the pocket, 2, yes, 2 Miami players are blocked to the ground from behind and the result, Patriots first down and NO CALL.
I guess the NFL got caught last week cheering on the Jets so they has to show they don't favor any team by favoring a team!
This was one of the worst officiated games in NFL history. Someone needs to review the tapes and plaster the results, with freeze frames, so as to completely expose the officials! The Fins can't and will not do it so maybe a reporter will! Any takers?

Matt Light better be finded big $$ and acouple of games!! Totally uncalled for punching CC behind the head with a fist and no helmet on!!! I'm pissed!! They were already winning!!
How do I email the NFL and voice my feeling!THat just wrong !! Typical Pats player~!

I don't know what was worse, The D giving up 530 yrds or Crowder getting his hair pulled and slapped around like a step child. How embarassing.

start getting ready for the draft folks! maybe we can finish 9 and 7 and get some decent picks next year. WE NEED CB's and some ILB help...

Dis u see light putting on his helmit after he was ejected from the game right before he walked into the tunnel where crowder was at? what a punk he was scared that he would get caught without a helmit like crowder did on the field.

But hey we got to hand it to the Patriots they are the greatest losers of all time no on ehas been perfect and then lost the super bowl!

That will always make them be remembered as the biggest chokers in history!

The Beef Sez:JUST GOT RAN OVER BY DAN DEIRDORFF HUAL ASSING INTO THE PATS LOCKER ROOM,I GUESS CASSEL MUST BE IN THE SHOWER.

Please cut the following players:

Pennington
Beck
*Ginn (One more week of improvement and I'm going to remove him...he looked very good today IMHO - besides the punt return that I have no idea what he was going to do with)

W. Allen
J. Allen

Thank you!

Well what can I say...W. Allen and J. Allen pretty much lost the game single handely. Penningnot floated balls that recievers had to break routes and come back to and our running game really wasnt given a chance to take off.

One area of visible improvement was the ST unit which usually blows; they made EVERY tackle today and I dont recall anyone missing their assignment; if they did it was when I was in the bathroom.

To the officals, KMA; they blew the PI call and can someone please explain to me why Channing got thrown out of the game for getting punched in the face? I can see giving him a personal foul but getting ejected? I will be highly upset if the Patsies lineman doesnt get a suspension; what is this the NBA?

I was surprised they didnt take advantage of Jake Longs injury and blitz that side; this could be due to the fact that Miami kept running quick plays.

All in all I am happy with the 28 we put up on last years AFC SB representatives; our flaws are not as mysterious or wide spread like they were last year.

We need and already have a QB that can throw the ball; Im just waiting for Pennington to get hurt. We need better players in the secondary and we need a #1 WR. I would also like to see some solid depth addressed in the O line and D line this off season.

Does anyone know how Camarillo is doing???? is he done for the year?

Belichick and the Patsies are not going far in the playoffs. Cassel has improved with the passing game and it has shown.

I agree that our secondary is weak and it has been no surprise to see our weakness exploited again. Arizona and Houston exploited it as well. We will get better. We have come a long way already. LOL, we are even beginning to expect to win again.

I would love to see some class again in the NFL. I remember Shula calling for the fins to take a knee at the end of the game, with a chance to score. I hope a reporter will ask Belichick why he called for the run on 4th and goal. Someone should at least challenge him.

SHULA = CLASS

BELICHICK = CAMELTOE

alright well lets see here...it doesnt matter what anyone says but that play that moss scored was off. interference it was obvious. second ginn still sucks by missing those two balls at the end right in his hands AND losing about 20! yards on the kick return. and third. yes the secondary didnt do well at all. but hey we r 6-5 who can complain from a 1-15?? go fins! keep on working!

team fought hard. Armando you are so negative but i guess that gets readers.

Beef Sez:I JUST HEARD DAN DEIRDORFF WAS NOT ADMITED INTO LOCKER ROOM AND JUST BLEW HIS BRAINS OUT.

I won't back down on Ginn. He is a serial coward on running and catching. You can't tell me Camarillo was shying away from hits today. Ginn looks particularly girly in light of GC's leaving the field on a stretcher. be a man and take a hit.

Typical Pats dirty football. and yes the ultimate chokers !!! I just emailed CBS and NFL.com. The better do something!

Armando,

I had the unfortunate opportunity to listen to your pre-game analysis on my way to the game on 790AM.

I find it hard to believe that you are a VOICE to people to understand the game...because you sir are quite inept.

The name of the game this season is RE-BUILDING,and for you to expect anymore [ yes, fans, we're ALOT better than NE & this is our springboard to the top] tells me that your knowledge & emotions of the game resembles a teen girl experiencing her first monthly....You sound just like all the 'experts' who predicted Super-Bowl during the Wanny, Saban & Cam years.

This team has far exceeded anyones wishes for rebuilding, and it's a victory that they get after it for 60 minutes each week.

YOU REALLY NEED TO CONSIDER COVERING HS jv GAMES...It fits your knowledge level much better.

>We stink. We got lucky six times this year, but we're still the worst team in the league. No more wins this year. 6-10. And we'll draft another bust in the first round in April. Kill me.

Hmm, its tempting...

You forgot your name.

I guess we all got a serious REALITY CHECK today didn't we??!! The Fins are improving but they showed today they aren't quite ready to take the next step. I'm not surprised we lost but it's by how much we lost....one of the worst fins game of the years. Yikes!!!
Playoffs? No...even if the Fish won, they still wouldn't be in the playoffs had they started today.
Still, we're 6-5 and tied for third place....better than being 0 fer 11 which I believe we were at this time last year.
The team needs to suck it up, get over it and get ready for St. Louis next week.

!

BEEF SUPREME, You should change your name. Dierdorf could confuse you with a burrito and cram you into his mouth!

Did any of u see light put on his helmit after he was ejected from the game right before he walked into the tunnel where crowder was at? what a punk he was scared that he would get caught without a helmit like crowder did on the field.

That will always be remembered as the biggest chokers in history! 18-1

The Beef Sez:THATS TRUE,HOW ABOUT BESTEC SUPREMO?

First and foremost, Paul Pasqualoni should be fired. He shouldn't even be allowed to clean out his office. His personal possessions should be torched, just like his schemes were today. We had a chance to make a statement. We did, alright - that we're still a pathetic laughingstock disgrace.

J-E-T-S-JETS, JETS, JETS...

THANK YOU...AGAIN NEW YORK!!!

1972 -2008 STILL PERFECT IN PERFECT VILLE WHEE THE POP IS 1.

game over period.on to the next which happens to be the rams.do not take this team lightly.they did beat the skins in dc.they still have s.jackson, bulger, holt, and a few others.we have to be focus danielson.

I have to laugh at the Miami Fans whining about running up the score. STFU already, you guys won 38-3 in week 3 ya jackasses!

I also noticed none of you want to call out Joey "More Mouth Than Talent" Porter for being "classless" yet your comolain about New England running up the score...are you serious?

The Dolphins played like men today.
They deserve my approval
And they have it!

Armando you jinxed us once again, please never again in your life pick us to win a game. Do that favor to all fin fans

Its the Armando curse damit

Joey "More Mouth Than Talent" Porter has 14.5 sacks this year..And everyone stop bitching that they ran up the score..they still didn't beat us by the margin we beat them...so I guess we ran it up further...

Yo, "patsie Dan" the fins won 38-10 without running up the score. If we would've run up the score we would've won 68-10 moron.

Cassel with one L Armando. Pay attention.

I've got a lot of steam to vent after this game but first let me mention TWO things:

1. I hate the PATSIES almost as much as the JETS after today's game.

2. It's obvious Miami still has a long way to go.

This was an exciting game until Jake Long got injured...after that it seemed to all go down hill. Miami's offense did it's job today (although the running game was unimpressive). Despite the Wildcat using up it's ninth life today the offense still racked-up 28 points against the Patsies. Anytime a team puts up that many points and can't win a game there are problems with the D. The defense is obviously better than they were last year but still not close to good enough. They couldn't generate much of a pass rush w/o blitzing. There defensive backs did a bad job of covering Patsy WRs and tackling. Ahem...TACKLING!!! That is one of the main reasons they lost the game...the damn YAC!!! For you slow folks that stands for Yards After the Catch. The Patsies had a bunch of them and that was a big reason Cassel's passing yards were so big. Jason Allen got owned by Randy Moss all day. What the hell was JASON Allen doing covering Moss??!! I should have been the other Allen...WILL! In the end though the game was closer than the scoreboard would lead you to believe. The team has a long way to go and can still make a run at the playoffs if they can get another 4 or 5 wins. It's a HUGE improvement over last year I just guess as fans a lot of us got ahead of ourselves. Miami is very competitive this year but still very flawed. My biggest fear now are that injuries to Long and Camarillo turn out to be serious. If those players are done for the year then it will be tough for Miami to get another win.

OFF-SEASON PRIORITIES:

Shutdown CB - HUGE!!! If we had a guy that could have shutdown Moss today the outcome would have been a LOT different.

Disruptive DL - We've got a lot of solid players on the line but no BEASTS! We need someone in the Albert Haynesworth mold who can cause a lot of problems fo QBs. If you can only get pressure by blitzing that isn't going to cut it. Eventually you will get stung by offenses. We need another pass-rushing force beside Porter!

BIG play WR - You saw what Randy Moss did today. You saw what the Cardinal's WRs did to us earlier in the season. You also saw what Houston's Andre Johnson did to us when we played them. The point: we need a guy like this! Camarillo is dependable and Ginn is emerging but neither of those guys are gonna make a defense sweat like Moss. Each of them has good attributes but aren't the complete package. They are complement WRs...not the centerpiece. We need to find a stud.

we all knew fins would not go to far this yr..i am supprised they have got this far..the only thing that bothers me, is why they put henny in for last couple of plays..game was over, so why not put henny in after 3 quaters, and see if he could pull it out..penn was having bad game anyway..and at this time in season..it would not hurt anything to give him try..if he blew a few passes so what..game was over after 3rd quarter...like to see him play a little..THEY CALL ME RICK.

The Beef Sez:HEY GUYS THERES A DIASTER MOVIE ON SCI FI CHANNEL OR IF U HAVE A TIVO REWIND 2DAYS GAME AND ENJOY AN ACTUAL DIASTER...

how about 81 from Dallas, hes unhappy there now..he dont get enough reps..lololol..but he hella of reciver...yes fins Defense aint that good, but coach wants to try to make players out nothing..and pats played harder then fins..and penn was not having good day also, they shoulda put hennie in after 3rd quarter..he may have brought miami back????..THEY CALL ME RICK.
