The final minute was not good for the palpitations but the Dolphins did it again today at Dolphins Stadium. They beat the San Francisco 49ers 14-9.
The Dolphins continue to keep pace in this wild and wacky playoff race. Wow.
Chad Pennington completed 12 of 19 passes for 156 yards with two touchdowns to lead the offense. But it was the defense that led this charge.
Miami's D has not allowed a TD in 12 quarters. That's three consecutive games without giving up a TD.
And, fittingly, the game ended with a defensive exclamation point as Joey Porter sacked SF quarterback Shaun Hill to seal the victory.
Good stuff, folks! Exciting stuff!
Your thoughts ....

Armando, can you please make the coaching staff justify that sweep call????????? I would really know what the hell they were thinking on that one.. A sweep on a team with the fastest linebackers in the nfl... takes us out of the middle of the field and loses us 3 yards. Resulting in a FG attempt that was short by one inch.. Musta been one hell of a brain fart. Otherwise great game and great coaching

Mando,
how many sacks does Porter have on the opponent's last drive this year? I think at least 3.
Posted by: sjs | December 14, 2008 at 04:02 PM
There defense is playing good, but their offense needs some kind of spark. Regardless, a win is a win. Too bad the Jets won too.
Posted by: FinsFan | December 14, 2008 at 04:03 PM
Impenetrable Defense. Thank you Chad Pennington. Unstoppable BIGFISH!!!! Any doubters left?

ONE MORE THING:
Whoever said the dolphins dont look like a playoff team because of this game... DID YOU SEE THE SCORE OF THE COLTS GAME???? They just barely beat the lions,, are you saying that they arent a playoff team? Every game is a battle.. San fran has had a lot of tough breaks this year. they are a good team.. They came down to the last second with the cardinals as well,, A team that destroyed us and has already sealed its playoff spot, and possible a first round bye...

hey chace just go jump of a bridge already you idiot! the Phins won be happy!!!
Posted by: el guru | December 14, 2008 at 04:05 PM
My heart can't take these close games but what a way to end the home finale. Not pretty but effective. 9 wins. Who whould have thunk it? Part 1 of the 3 pt trilogy accomplished. Next stop...KC.

What was Ginn's stat line?
Posted by: George | December 14, 2008 at 04:06 PM
to everyone saying "ugly win" "we're not a playoff team" and all that....
any team can beat any other team any given Sunday (see Jets losing to Raiders AND these same Niners)... in the words of Parcells, you are what your record says you are.
We're a 9-5 team Baby
Posted by: Driven | December 14, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Maybe we should hope for the playoffs, cause with our schedule next year and the way we've won games it's not looking good...
Posted by: Marc | December 14, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Too close for a home game against a bad team. But a W is a W. Phins exceeded my expectations at 9-5!
GO PHINS!

woooooooooooooo 9-5 woooooooooooooo
Posted by: matt | December 14, 2008 at 04:10 PM
The Ginn stat line is 2-8, to go with the 1-18 against the Bills. Chad is not looking his way nearly as much. Pennington is trying to get ginn involved but he can never be relyed upon to get open.

I still think we can sort out the gameplanning for our running game. The wildcat may need to prowl its way back on the play calling. Ronnie needs more carries and Chad had to start using London or Cobbs more in the passing game. The niners have a good defense and we did another good job of game management, however how can we progress with this kind of offensive ineptitude ? Porter deserved to throw his helmet, LETS GET IT ON !!!!! 9 wins and counting.

Posted by: markay g | December 14, 2008 at 04:16 PM
Im looking around at the AFC teams and see the Texans beating the Titans, the Jets almost lost to the Bills, the Colts struggled against the Lions. It sounds old, but there are no easy games anymore in the NFL. If we win ugly against the Chiefs and Jets, who cares ?

Houston beats Tennesee
Posted by: George | December 14, 2008 at 04:17 PM
I want to know why we are running the ball to the left on 3rd and 4 that took us out of FG range. Some of the play calling is getting us in trouble. Ronnie B gets 10 - 12 touchs a game. We need to get to running the ball again and give him more opportunites. We will never survive the first playoff game without it. Lately the play calling is way off.
Posted by: phillip | December 14, 2008 at 04:18 PM
Well, Good game, all being said in the end. But, I will say this: Miami cannot and will not beat the "lucky jets" if what we saw today is the best they can muster from the running game. It's as simple as that. The one thing we will have going for is is the "jest" have Favre! He is (easily) the sngle-most overrated qb in history. Easy to read. The only reason we didn't beat them opening week is because of the lack of arm strength of Pennington on that last drive in from the 10 yd line. Anyway, it's been nothing but "me me ME!!" since favre came into the league. He's cost his teams many a chance to get further into post season due to his "gotta be the (*^*&%^ hero" selfishness. So, the running game better jump up and the "D" will have to find a way to put Mr. heroics-glutton on his keester!

"Nice job" to our D. That's three games without allowing a TD- amazing!
Posted by: George | December 14, 2008 at 04:19 PM
Typical Miami blow-out,ha! We are still a few players away from being a serious playoff contender.
I don't like our chances @KC next week. But the Jets chances are just as bad.

Yo A.j., Come on up to the big city for the big game bro., I'll get you the ticket.
Posted by: cuban menace | December 14, 2008 at 04:40 PM
I hate to be critical but we haven't even attempted to make the run a priority throughout the game and then suddenly expect to turn it on...which we did...but it was really too late. With a lead I would have thought we would have at least tried to run it. It looked good hen we did.
We'll need to run against the Jets to win. Period. I feel like Ronnie needs more ball to him to get him into the game sooner. But am glad to win. We have our first winning season in years. And are actually playing meaningful games. Thats nice. Life is good.
Posted by: Moneyjacket | December 14, 2008 at 04:41 PM
Hey A.j. The meadowlands is not a place for a 8pm game , temps hover around 15 to 20 degress with a 20 to 30 mph wind making it feel like 5 to 10 degrees..burrrrrr
