Bill Parcells spoke to New York Daily News columnist Gary Myers Friday and, in his most definitive statement about his situation with the Dolphins following the team's sale to Stephen Ross, finally made it clear he intends to remain with the Miami Dolphins in 2009.
"My intention is to do what I've been doing," he said. "I think we will have ample time to figure each other out. I'm very optimistic. I've had two or three meetings with Steve Ross and he seems to be a guy who wants to do things the right way. There will be a period of adjustment. He's got to find out about the business. We are going to try and make things work. I'm not doing this forever."
Parcells, who has a clause in his contract that stipulates he can walk away from the Dolphins in the next 25 days and still collect the entirety of his contract's $9-$12 million still to be paid, also dismissed the notion he wants to rework the deal in exchange for not exercising the stipulation.
"I will never take another dollar from the Dolphins other than what I am earning," he said. "I'm not trying to leverage anything. I got more money than I can spend now."
This is great news for Miami and its fans.

Can we finally put this to rest! This is great news for Dolfans... Turnaround was huge, but we still have work to do. Mando can we stop beating this story to death? Think we are all thinking the worse since Saban lied!

First!
Finally a new post mando!
At least we can put this story to bed.
Posted by: shanader | January 25, 2009 at 10:42 AM
couple more years of parcells guidance, and the stewardship of jeff and tony after that and we should be contenders for years.
GO FINN!!!!
Posted by: dolfanSF | January 25, 2009 at 10:53 AM
...as long as our staff does not get raided like other successful teams' have. But I agree good news is good news and as long as Ireland is around (he's young) we should be fine.

there's no definitive thing in the story.if you notice he used a business like talke not his style in fact he said we wil have ample time to figure each other out.ample time to him is next 25 days which ross has to prove that he want's tuna for long time to come and that mean minority owner ship .ross has to show bp he is wanted for more than 25 days.
Posted by: | January 25, 2009 at 11:03 AM
menace now is your turn .what say you?
Posted by: | January 25, 2009 at 11:18 AM
I think he made one thing very clear:
This isn't about money, so he could walk whenever he wants- contract stipulation or not.
Posted by: Tommya | January 25, 2009 at 11:23 AM
Allthough I had a 50/50 chance at being right I would like to point out that I've been saying this all along! Parcells wasn't talking to the media about it because he did not start the rumors and speculation. He's a north east guy and eventhough they can be abrasive they always give it to you straight. All of the "why isn't Bill talking about this" BS from the media was agenda driven. The agenda being to sell more newspapers. Just bring up some speculative drama and watch the fans go crazy. The only way Bill was going anywhere was if Ross came in and changed the structure of the team. And people actually gave into the notion that he would make changes that Bill wouldn't like, forcing him out the door. The Petersen thing was just what some of us said it was, a friend hanging out with a friend and feeling caught up in the moment using the word "we". Ross is one of the richest men in the world and he did not accumulate that wealth by making bad business decisions. How can anyone not love the Tuna?! He has a perfect chance to renegotiate his contract and milk more money out of the new owner but instead honors the contract that he signed. That's a real man right there. A man who was brought up right and has deep seeded values that are rare in this day and age. Love me some Tuna! (Mando the tuna helper thing is brilliant and hilarious).

ALERT;SOME BODY SAID QOUTE.'AS LONG OUR GOOD STAFF DOESN'T GET RAIDED LIKE OTHER SUCCESSFUL TEAMS' WE WILL BE FINE AND IRLEND IS STILL YOUNG SO WE WILL BE FINE.LET ME TELL YOU IF TUNA IS NOT HERE THIS GOOD STAFF OF YOURS WOULD BE PLAYING CARDS ALL YEAR.LAST IT'S ABOUT REAL LEADERSHIP NOT FAKE ONES THAT YOU HAD LAST FEW YEARS.

NY SCOTT...IGREE WITH YOU 100 PERCENT BUT ALSO TUNA LEFT NEW ENGLAND MANY YEARS AGO CAUSE CAN'T TRUST OWNERSHIP.SO HERE IT LOOKS THAT ROSST HAS TO DO SOME THING REAL BIG TO MAKE TUNA PART OF DOLPHINES NOT JUST A HIRED PERSON TO FILL A JOB .ONE MORE THING DID YOU ASK YOURSELF WHY TUNA INSISTED ON THAT CLUASE TO SIGN WITH OLD OWNERS?HE KNEW ONCE HE IS WITH FINS THIER VALUE WILL GO UP AND YOU FIGURE THE REST.

As I said yesterday when i had lunch with the tuna(he is quite the eater) and looks forward to re-releasing ted(hands of stone)ginn and his clipboard holding daddy and randy crowder back to the wild, he's also looking forward to being abel to go to the race track year round.congrats fin fans.
Posted by: cuban menace | January 25, 2009 at 12:02 PM
menace;did you hear that ginn will hire a hand message person to help hime right before catching the football and i heard he is going to allowed to message his hands while he is running.is it true cuban?

Actually, we'd be fine without Parcells this year. Jeff Ireland has a vision and he's already worked with Parcells in Dallas, so his model of a team is consistent with what Parcells would have. Don't get me wrong, another year with BP is awesome but if he goes after next, no biggie. Ireland is a very good talent evaluator. Draft needs, NT, RT (Carey may leave), Center, WR, OLB, ILB (Crowder's gone), CB, Safety(Bell is good but not great). Can we trade for Ed Reed and Haloti Ngata (sp?)??
Posted by: becker | January 25, 2009 at 12:22 PM
Ted ( H. O. S) Ginn wont need that in the wild what he needs are sidelines,i also hear the w.w.f is sponsering the release of teddy, his clip board holding daddy and randy. so it should be fun so bring the kids there will be arts and crafts and a petting zoo where you can pet m@@c's mother.

Yes Iraland Has a vision thats why he need glasses.

While his decision is honorable, I am afraid I'd have to take the cash. If I wanted to stay with Miami, then I'd simply sign a new contract. It's business - he'll cut an All Pro and arguably future Hall-Of-Famer to save money. It's just a business decision. I guess I need more money than I can spend to understand his logic.

I Think B.p. Should cut off some of his body fat say about 200lbs worth and sell it to the japennese at 50 dollars a ounce. he still would tip the scales at 303 lbs.
