Vonnie Holliday became a free agent Monday when the Dolphins terminated his contract, but it didn't take long for teams to begin showing interest in him. Holliday fielded calls from five teams Tuesday and has visits with two of them already scheduled.
The defensive end is scheduled to visit the Broncos on Thursday and the Detroit Lions early next week. The other three unnamed teams have yet to commit to visits but at least one of them is eventually expected to do just that.
The bad news for Miami is that team is in the AFC East.
The Broncos visit is intriguing because that team, under new coach Josh McDaniels, has already imported two former Dolphins defensive starters. The Broncos over the weekend signed cornerback Andre' Goodman and free safety Renaldo Hill.
It should not surprise that McDaniels is interested in the former Miami players. All three -- Hill, Goodman and Holliday -- came to Miami because Nick Saban brought them. McDaniels's first job as a coach came at Michigan State in 1999 under, who else, Saban.
So something about the type of player Saban likes obviously rubbed off on McDaniels. It also doesn't hurt, I'm sure, that McDaniels saw Hill and Goodman and, yes, Holliday, twice every season when he was an assistant at New England.
Holliday led all Miami defensive linemen in tackles and sacks last season despite playing only 56 percent of the downs.
[UPDATE: Speaking of defensive linemen, Bill Parcells talked to the Newark Star-Ledger about defensive end Chris Canty, a Parcells draftee in Dallas and a new Giants acquisition. In the interview he explained, in part, why the Dolphins didn't show the interest everyone expected Miami to have in Canty: "Well, we drafted three defensive linemen last year and signed two free-agent linemen," Parcells said. "We filled our needs then."
[The Dolphins, in fact, drafted Kenall Langford, Phillip Merling and Lionel Dotson. They also signed Randy Starks. And they traded for Jason Ferguson. The most interesting part of that statement to me is that Parcells claims the Dolphins have filled their needs on the unit, suggesting Miami is done along the defensive line. To me, nose tackle remains a position that needs attention. Disagree?]

Any news on any free agent CB's visiting South Florida ?

Mando, get on twitter laugh at Shaq's posts. Like always when are you back on 790 and how old is holiday 36?

Armando,
I just wanted to commend you for all the inside information you've gotten the past few weeks despite this regime's reputation for being as secretive as the CIA. You are very good at what you do.

Please get rid of ted(never met a side line i didnt like)ginn and his clip board holding daddy.
Posted by: cuban menace | March 04, 2009 at 02:35 AM
Who is the team in the AFC EAST that's interested?
Posted by: mrmikejohnson | March 04, 2009 at 03:54 AM
Smooch smooch smooch Armando !!! Is this what the country has become ? Ugh ! I hope Holliday can split himself in thirds and play for the jets, bills and pats. Let them have a old, DE who got a whopping 3 sacks.
Posted by: Mel Martinez | March 04, 2009 at 04:37 AM
I like Holliday, but we need the youth movement and the cap space. This is a business. This team had Holliday last year to be a leader in the locker room. Mission accomplished. Not its time for Crowder to become the vocal and inspirational leader of the defense. Joey is in his last year with the team. We'll draft his replacement with #25 in the draft. CB in round 2. WR with the 2nd #2 pick. Don't overspend on pricey free agents. How bad will it be in DC when Haynesworth goes down with a knee injury in training camp? Pitiful. Go Dolphins!
Posted by: Dolfan Ray | March 04, 2009 at 06:11 AM
Hopefully we can replace those numbers that left with Hollidays jersey. Didn't we watch an old tired lb leave the Dolphins and win a SB with New England. Not that I see anything completely wrong with releasing Holliday, it just seems that these moves always haunt the Phins.
Hopefully we can find someone in the draft to make up for the loss because those are some good numbers. If he played full time it would have been 7 sacks and probably another 50 tackles.
Posted by: klndry | March 04, 2009 at 06:13 AM
yeah his numbers were nice and he was a trooper.
release him next year if any decline from there cuz we have other holes that needed more attention (cb,wr,lb from c to nt)
but our o-line is set but the d-line?
Posted by: serv1 | March 04, 2009 at 06:53 AM
Dolphins should sign never release any player who is nice and has affect on locker room as olde holliday who 2 had big 2 sacks all year.
Posted by: france lamour | March 04, 2009 at 07:43 AM
yawn......boring.....
Posted by: souljahbeats | March 04, 2009 at 08:17 AM
THAT'S CONFUSING france lamour. WE ALSO DON'T NEED A NICE GUY PLAYING D-LINE. WE NEED BIG, NASTY, DIRTY MEN ON THAT LINE. I AGREE 100% WITH THIS RELEASE BECAUSE OUR YOUNG GUYS NEED MORE EXPOSURE THAN WHAT THEY GOT LAST YEAR. JT SHOULD COME BACK TO SHOW LANGFORD AND MERLING SOME TRICKS AND THEN RELEASE HIM THE NEXT DAY. HAHA
Posted by: J-P | March 04, 2009 at 08:24 AM
I thought the Dolphins should have drafted HOlliday all those years ago. He will help lead that Denver team that will be rebuilding if they sign him
Posted by: Rick Offerdahl | March 04, 2009 at 08:26 AM
After i red NY Scott venom from last night I said to myself he must be living in some kind of a shed somewhere in the great south of ours.
Posted by: france lamour | March 04, 2009 at 08:27 AM
France,
did you read that racist garbage NYscott wrote???? That was horrible, I've heard some racist stuff before, but never anything like that...all I can say is WOW, some people are seriously derranged and need to be put down.
Armando, please help, this is not a kkk blog...
Posted by: souljahbeats | March 04, 2009 at 08:30 AM
J-P....I wrote that as a joke about Holliday but i disagree with you on mr leadr JT in fact he can show Langford and Merling some tricks to get to 1-15 in a hurry
Posted by: friend | March 04, 2009 at 08:33 AM
Good luck to Vonnie, he's a good dude.. He also left with his head high, unlike Jason Taylor who left ripping off his sparkling dancing vest!!
Just don't go to New England man!!!
Posted by: Robby Marino | March 04, 2009 at 08:38 AM
SoulJ....Agree with you on that guy's venom and i think when people read his words they learn a lot and that is doing and saying the complete OPPOSITE of him .
Posted by: france lamour | March 04, 2009 at 08:48 AM
what a sad, stupid little man...
Posted by: souljahbeats | March 04, 2009 at 08:52 AM
I dont usually get involved in other people bickering, but I went to the other blog to read the racist post by NYscott. And it was bad stuff. BUT, it was not him. It was someone using his name. His name is highlighted in blue because hes registered. If you go read that post you will see that the name is not blue. He was impersonated. And I for one wish that Armando would ban the person that made that post. It was bad enough for its content, but to try to make others believe it was someone else to make them look bad was a little over the line. Some people just need to grow up a little I guess. Ban thier IP Armando.

Holliday. What a bum. "I don't want to bad mouth the Dolphins and its a business, but blah blah blah (insert parting cheap shot).."
Who cares where Vonnie Holliday goes next? Do you spend hours wondering where your ex-girlfriend is or are you looking at the next dish on the menu. Besides I don't want a guy with a last name of Holliday around when we are trying to get some serious work done. The Greyhound terminal is on 27th St. and don't let the door hit your fat *** on the way out. Bye now.

Armando,
Please do something about the poisonous racist comment posted by nyscott last night...I for one am very offended (and it takes alot to offend me) I know you say "no subject is taboo", but come on man...If I keep seeing garbage like this, I will have to find somewhere else to talk about dolphins football because I for one do not support that kind of thinking or any business that supports it... Delete the comment, ban the user, do SOMETHING so other people are not subjected to that kind of basura!

Posted by: Fan | March 04, 2009 at 09:29 AM
mando
any word on D-line, CB and WR? I feel that if we can get a vet cb and a solid vet WR, then our draft would be players that will add to the team instead of trying to find a player of need and reaching busting on a player.
Samari Rolle?
Devery Henderson?
Posted by: phinknoli | March 04, 2009 at 09:31 AM
Fan, yes both the Ixxy13(black and blue) posts are me. lol.
Posted by: Ixxy13 | March 04, 2009 at 09:33 AM
phinknoli,
Have some confidence in the front office...they have said several times that they will build this team through the draft, not free agency. The draft is Parcells and Ireland's specialty, let them do their thing...
Devery Henderson is another wr under 6 feet and not a true #1 receiver...we have plenty of guys like that on the roster, we don't need him
Samari Rolle is 32 years old, I don't think we would go after him, but he is from Miami, so maybe if he wants to sign a short contract for a hometown discount...but I think he's still under contract with Baltimore, isn't he?
Posted by: souljahbeats | March 04, 2009 at 09:36 AM
Fan, what I said was true. Because NYscott was signed in before that racist post was made. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize it was someone else thats operating with a couple inches short of a normal sized forehead. lol.
Posted by: Ixxy13 | March 04, 2009 at 09:45 AM
but yourself signed with both black and blue so why not him also can do same
Posted by: Fan | March 04, 2009 at 09:48 AM
Because I registered right after my first post to insure nobody could register my name before me. I dont usually post on blogs, but I read these blogs every single day. Ive never read anything by NYscott that even comes close to the crap in that racist post, and the fact that he posts in blue every time Ive seen his posts. So why would he sign out all of the sudden and post that with the same name in black? He wouldn't. So, I hope Armando does what any good administrator would do and ban the mental midget that posted that racist crap.
Posted by: Ixxy13 | March 04, 2009 at 09:59 AM
I aggree with Fake GM, Mando, you have been excellent the past few weeks with inside information. We appreciate it.
Now tell us what the Dolphins will do at CB because I don't want to think Jason Allen is their answer. Or is he?
Posted by: greggoatee | March 04, 2009 at 10:01 AM
With Coles gone, the Jets need a tall wide receiver. Maybe they'd take Wilford off our hands and we could try to get that Revis kid in return. We really need a corner.
Posted by: Mr. Bungle | March 04, 2009 at 10:41 AM
MR.BUNGLE.......
is a very wise man,
he knows what we need
corner and more
king coles would come and

Posted by: hazel | March 04, 2009 at 11:21 AM
Ixxy13 , you just posted in black and white. So what's for NYSCOTT to also post in black to throw people off . How about that tool Nyscott talking down to posters and telling them to get a clue by saying " you people need to learn about the player before you talk " or " learn more about the nfl besides the dolphins " . That was in blue. The jerk thinks he knows more than anybody else !!
Posted by: fan | March 04, 2009 at 11:54 AM
"Parcells claims the Dolphins have filled their needs on the unit" Clearly a SMOKESCREEN.
Posted by: Sparkito | March 04, 2009 at 12:01 PM
Mando,
I think the Nt is for Starks to take, yes last year he was awfull but it takes about 2 years to learn the position and he's almost a clon of Fergusson, Starks probaly will be the starting NT next season
Posted by: Manuel | March 04, 2009 at 12:06 PM
Soulja , you already found somewhere else to post. You're already go on the sun-sentinel blogs all day. Who are you kidding LOL. So go there, believe me you won't be missed .You sound just like Nyscott when he he said he was leaving and NEVER coming back. Guess what ? The blog went on and he also came back. PLease stop the empty threats !!. Just admit that you're addicted to these blogs and can't go away, LOl
Posted by: fan | March 04, 2009 at 12:07 PM
ixxy13 ,are you saying that when sign on with blue name you can also sign with black name?that's sound like the sign on guy with blue can fake other people names and sign w/black name and no body would suspect them like Ny Scott or you or sprovo .
Posted by: butch | March 04, 2009 at 12:17 PM
Izzy13, you usually don't post on blogs. Who are you kidding ? I've seen you post on here plenty of times. Speaking of racist remarks. I'm sure all the little people around the world would love your mental midget remark.
Posted by: Curious george | March 04, 2009 at 12:19 PM
ARMANDO AND DOLPHANS IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE FORGETS THAT PAUL SOLIAI IS A VERY GOOD NT FOR OUR DEFENSE. IMHO I THINK HE'S BETTER THAN STARKS IN THE NT REGION.HE'S JUST BEEN INACTIVE BECAUSE OF HIS YOUNG ACTIONS BUT THIS YEAR HE SHOULD BE BETTER WITH THE LEADERSHIP THAT HE IS GETTING WITH THE MIAMI DOLPHINS. I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE DON'T REMEMBER THIS BUT IN TRAINING CAMP SOLIAI WAS THROWING SATELE AROUND LIKE THE REST OF THE "TOP" NT'S IN THE AFC
Posted by: J-P | March 04, 2009 at 12:24 PM
Mando, dont believe anything bill says to you guys, he'd make a good politician when he leaves football or he'd make a good flotation device, i mean the guys as big as a boat..
Posted by: cuban menace | March 04, 2009 at 12:28 PM
Mando,As good as the season was for the Fins last year, I was constantly saying the Fins need an upgrade at nose tackle and my opinion certainly remains unchanged. So, I would like to see our beloved team draft a big, beefy NT with either their first or second round selection.Go Fins!!
Posted by: Finsfan Ralph | March 04, 2009 at 12:29 PM
I think we need a Nose Tackle to back up Jason Ferguson,,, Im not very impressed with solai
Posted by: Luis | March 04, 2009 at 12:30 PM
Tuna is pretty fat. Somebody should sneak up on him, smack his fat ass as hard as they can and scream "Digamelo cantando" at the top of their lungs. That or a violent wedgie would suffice.
Posted by: Sparkito | March 04, 2009 at 12:38 PM
Everyone was throwing around our center last year but, Paul Soliai is young but just not that good. Like Parcells said we have already addressed our D-Line. He won't give away the players he has on his draft site! He will find a gem somewhere at NT and we still have Fergui, Paul may still be in the running for playing time if he gets himself together.
I love what we have done so far; our O-line is all but set, our D-line is coming together. We need to go after some CB's and a big strong WR in the draft and inside LB that is what we will be looking for on draft day one.
Posted by: Dolphins4life | March 04, 2009 at 12:39 PM
Why we spend time to talk about old player who's gone? can Armondo should be starting every day to give little info and some insight of fin players life but in positive and personal way.at least better than reading about Holliday and ny Sott private trash.
Posted by: france lamour | March 04, 2009 at 12:42 PM
souljabeats has posted in a lot of places... but he is one of the short list of people who actually make informed comments on any of the blogs.
As for the NT position, Mando discussed the Fins are interested in T. Taylor from Michigan a while ago, but I still think R. Brace is the guy I could see them targeting and possibly making a move up for him if need be.

Hey cuban menace:
Hows that cesspool you call home doing? Your pathetic paper airplanes look to be battling the almost as inept Bills for last place again. BTW, any truth to the rumor that the NY Schleps plan on signing Joe Namath to play QB this year? Or is he still busy trying to grope a reporter on the sidelines somewhere?

You made a mistake. The choice that best fits your lame teams record isn't on there. 0-20, b/c they don't figure to even win a pre-season game with the putrid QB's they have on their roster. Good try tho, for a brainless bi-plane fan.

This is the way it is supposed to be. The perrenial loser all-Wet fans unable to see anything positive happening with their crappy team, being reduced to going to other teams blog sites and displaying their ignorance. I luv it. BTW, Joe Namath just called, he's at your mom's house and wants to know where you keep the good scotch. Get back to him please. LOL, enjoy the playoffs on TV along with your team who will also be watching.....AGAIN.......unless their out on the golf course.
Posted by: RexRyanSucks | March 04, 2009 at 01:23 PM
Regarding the update, if you believe Parcells, I'd be concerned. Or maybe he really thinks Solalai is the answer . But I'd bet they draft a NG-type somewhere in the draft.
Posted by: ubonline | March 04, 2009 at 01:25 PM
Can we please trade mr bungle, cuban, luggi, hazelnut for real dolphin fans.with their combined IQ of 5 you would think they could get together and figure out how to find a jets blog but then again
Posted by: Daytona Dave | March 04, 2009 at 01:29 PM
Armando?
Didn't we sign Joe Cohen (NT) also?
Besides, regardless of what Parcells is saying to the Newark paper, I still think they draft an NT in the middle to late rounds and throw him in the mix along with Soliai and Cohen to eventually replace Ferguson.
