Peppers on Pats is a bummer for Dolphins

Nervous? A couple of days ago I wrote a column in the Herald basically saying the New England Patriots, which finished behind the Dolphins in the AFC East race last season, had pulled ahead of the Dolphins this offseason.

And think what you will about that opinion, but it would be hard for anyone to argue the Patriots wouldn't be greatly and significantly improved on defense, their team weakness, if someone the caliber of a Julius Peppers were to join them. Yet, NFL.com is reporting the Patriots appear to be on the verge of trading for Peppers.

That report fails to note that Peppers has not signed the exclusive rights franchise tag tender the Panthers hung on him several weeks ago. And the Panthers cannot speak with Patriots about such a deal unless that tender is signed. So The Charlotte Observer is reporting the teams have not talked.

But that doesn't mean Peppers' agent and the Patriots cannot talk. And the NFL.com report indeed suggests trade parameters have been worked out, with New England sending Carolina the No. 34 overall pick in the draft, the second-round pick it got from Kansas City for Matt Cassel, in exchange for Peppers.

If this is true, it has to be a tremendous bummer for everyone in the AFC East not named the cheaters Patriots.

Look, Vic Carucci, who wrote the story for NFL.com, is an excellent reporter with good contacts. So it is right to believe that where there is smoke, there may be fire. And nowhere have you heard either team deny the story outright.

So you should consider this a very serious possibility. It is not a certainty. But it is possible.

And what, you should ask as tears roll down your face, would Peppers do for the Patriots?

He would instantly improve their questionable pass rush. Think Jason Taylor with the Dolphins circa 2006. Remember that year? The Dolphins used Taylor as a hybrid linebacker, pass rusher, and tormentor of offenses.

The Patriots would likely do the same with Peppers. I remember Nick Saban practically salavating at the thought of having a Peppers in his defensive scheme. When the Dolphins had the No. 2 overall selection in 2005, Saban told me if Peppers, who was drafted second overall in 2002, were available to him, he'd be, "jumping around celebrating." Those were his words.

It stands to reason Saban mentor Bill Belichick will see the same possibilities with Peppers as his disciple saw.

Like I said before, bummer.

cuban ,how ted ginn clan will coup with the desert?

Cuban , all joking aside. If you think about it , that was pretty F-up posting almost the same thing at the same exact time ,LOL . We might end up in the same psch ward, LOL

nj phin fan....doyou have a lot of monkeys live down in your garden state?also, why they call it the garden state when it's known for ........you know what i mean.

EVERY ONE LISTEN UP, NJ PHIN FAN IS THE MENACE AND THERE'S A POST ON PAGE 2 AT THE SME TIME AND SAME THING AT 12.33 LOL

It's true n.j, we may end up at bellevue, with that guy they let out every sunday that wears that hard hat and attends all jets home game and all he can scream is 1 word 3 times over"JETS,JETS,JETS", a very depressing thought indeed..

LOL , Navy. I mean menace !

Patsfan,They'll walk the desert for 40 years cannibalizing on the Ginn,Warner family, there's enough of them to last at least 40 years, though sidelines wont be as crowded in Miami and Arizona..

Another story from Mando and yet ANOTHER mention of NIKI SABAN!! Let it go Mando, she's gone...

Free agents sign with Patriots for cheaper money and less years so they can get a ring.. Tuna is in a 3yr plan and he is plugging holes.. Of course the Patsies are better and they were supposed to be better last year, but in TUNA I believe, and watch out for them Fins in 2010.. BTW, Belicheat knows it, so the NFL needs to keep a private detective on him..

Monkey, were'nt you also in "every which way but loose" with clint estwood and sandra locke???

THINGS THAT CAN NEVER BE IMPROVED UPON:

1) "The Little Rascals": They'll never be duplicated, no matter how many times you try.

2) "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn": Unlike "The Godfather" and "To Kill A Mockingbird" - great books turned into great movies - celluloid can never capture the magic of Twain's masterpiece.

3) Dan Marino's 1984 season: Sure, we didn't win the Super Bowl that year, but I've never seen an offense be so intimidating and so dominant. (Ironically, the one that came closest in my memory was the 1990 and 1991 Buffalo Bills No-Huddle Offense. People don't speak about them enough. They SCARED me.)

4) My wife: I say this to my wife all the time. I've only seen a perfect woman's body 3 times - Sophia Loren, the lady on a particular playing card, and YOU! I'm very lucky.

5) The 1st Movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony: It is one of the few pieces of music where you LITERALLY can not imagine even one note being changed.

6) A bowel movement that comes out so cleanly that you do not need to wipe: You should ALWAYS wipe, but sometimes you hit that magic turd where no wiping is necessary.

7) The love of a dog: No explanation necessary.

8) Audrey Hepburn's essence.

I thought we agreed that nick(the great Satan)saban's name would ever be uttered on this blog.. if i was Muslim I'd declare a fatwa on him ..

We could match that move by signing JT.

No,monkey I was joking man,I do manufacture hurricane shutters(accordion shutters) if you need some let me know, best prices in town guaranteed

Now cuban you remind me of my old days with sandra locke who was at the time married and clint girl friend at same time and i saw a lot of things then her husband would bring their lunch ever day and after he leaves clint would to turn to me and say that guy is a punk.

Is it true most people from New Jowrsky look and act like they have brain damage? Guess so, considering the really deranged comments from the NJ thing here.

Laugh at Jason Taylor if you want, but he was only the NFL Defense MVP not long ago and, along with his brother Zack, perhaps the two best defensive players in Dolphin history. They would likely come to the new Dolphins a lot cheaper..You don't scoff at two All-Pros so easily, look at what Dolphin castoff veteran Junior Seau has been doing in New England.

That said, why argue with a mutant?

Or should that read "a fatwa of jihad on nick(WHERE"S THE MONEY)saban, n.j, check it out with the Muslims down in jersey..(If you dare)

Dude... WE HAVE TO GET JAKE CUTLER! He will make all of our receivers better. There is no way Pennington can keep up with Brady. Besides, he is the definition of a sell high candidate if there ever was one. We need a franchise QB too. We could send Chad, Ricky and 1st round pick for him. We could then sign Jason Taylor. Then draft Sean Smith (CB) and Hakim Nicks (WR) in the 2nd round. There is a lot of RB talent in this years draft. I bet we can get a guy like McCoy in the 3rd to take the place of Ricky.

If we do this the only major hole we will have on the team is at RG.

Monkey, very insightful do you work for"E!" and if not you should, having been with so many thespians and all. and Nathanial, well what can i say , another master piece, BRAVO,BRAVO, my good man, there's just one other thing that cant be improved on, a Canadian summer evening..

Nathaniel......very good writing but on number 8 which is Audrey Hepburn's essence remind me of Martin Short playing her in saturday night live .Can you talk about how come we don't see names like Audey or loren any more.all we hear nancy, louisa etc......

JT is in fact damage goods my dear friend Jed and zack the ring master is also D.goods.you should read more about fins history in 1973-1974 to find best players in fins history not zack and mack.

Jeb,why would you want a guy that doesn't want to improve his conditioning on the swimming air breathing mammal's ???also mr. dodsworth , i've never met a ugly Heather in my life, have you sir??

Patsfan, I'm afraid you're confusing two distinctive thespians. I was referring to AUDREY Hepburn. You are referring to Katharine Hepburn.

As to names, my favorites are:
1) Rachel
2) Rebecca
3) Veronica

Aren't they lovely? I mean, how can you not fall in love with women with those beautiful names? (Provided they're good looking and Republican).

i hear that moving from FL to AZ it's like moving from france to sudan ,is it true menace?

mike, spot on...

Julius Peppers is a really good player and he makes the Pats a better team. Hats off to them for parlaying Cassell into Peppers (if it happens, and I'm not convinced it will for a second round pick). I would very much like Peppers on the 'Phins. Only problem with this is he is going to count a lot of money towards their cap. I think currently he will count $16 million against the cap or at least until they re-negotiate a new contract. So at that kind of money they can have him. Still think adding Jason Taylor under the right terms and the right money would make the 'Phins better.

Why can't we get Peppers instead of the cheaters? Panthers probably leaked the information to the press, so other teams would get involved. They will not trade Peppers for just a 2nd round pick. If nothing else, Dolphins could get involved, and drive the price up (Peppers salary and compensation) for Peppers.

Actually Arizona is beautiful, went to school at a.s.u there about 80 miles from the grand canyon, and talk about sunsets, man it's the 2nd best thing to touching the hand of god...

JED , you "GIT -R-DONE 'Red-neck. You should be the LAST one talking about who looks like a mutant or is a mutant. Not when you rednecks sleep with your own brothers , sisters , cousins ,etc. You know how they turn out. By the way , are you related to the banjo player in Deliverance ?

thank you nathaniel for the info and also i love the names but the veronica name i thought a little cheeseee since my understanding that when a rich man marry a beauty he tries to change and upgrade her real name say nancy to veronica.last thing please don't use the word Republicn any place near women, ted steven.... any one in the rest room

Yes,Mando I'm sure that would be a real " bummer" for the Dolphins , perhaps they should forfeit those two games and save the misery.

I'm sure Sparano is loosing sleep over that possibility. Not!

Graig, please no more of the Jason(twinkle toes)taylor in a mammal uniform again...thanks..pats fan, good one on the 2:21 blog...

JED GIT- R- DONE , the next time that your losing a debate , try stop being a baby with all the name calling. Then i won't have to stoop to your red neck level self and respond with name calling. Face the facts, these 2 were once great, but their better days are behind them . soon as you do that , you'll be able to move on to the new age dolphins. GIT-R-DONE ! GIT-R_DONE

Mando,

Just curious where New England (Washington also) gets all this cap space. Before FA started New England had less than 3 Million in cap space. They traded Cassell and Vrable to add some back, maybe 14 to 17 million. Since that time they have signed two corners, a wide receiver, a running back, and resiged some current players. Exactly who is watching the store in the NFL concerning the cap space. We all know how well Bellicheat likes to cheat the system. Is anyone minding the accounting store? Is Peppers going to take less money just to go to New England? Why would he?

P.S.....Audery.H was perfect woman not a spot on her skin not like today some women have writings and signs on them like we are buying a mattress.

OMG N.j, there we go again at the same time but with two different people, I'am scarred we might share the same thought...lol.

LARRY ENGLISH.KENNY BRITT.SHAWN SMITH.AND WE WILL COMPETE WITH PATSIES OR ANYBODY IN THE LEAGUE,GET YOUNGGGGGGGG AND MORE YOUNGER WE DON'T NEED WASHED OUT PLAYERS.WE NEED TO GET A PLUGGER IN THE MIDLE WITH THE 3RD ROUND PICK,GET A COUPLE OF OFFENSIVE LINEMAN IN THE LATE ROUNDS TO DEVELOP AND THAT'S IT, NEXT YEAR WE WILL FINISH WHAT WE SET TO DO FRON THE START AND LET'S KICK SOME BUTTS ,WE DO NOT NEED J TAYLOR OR ZACK THOMAS,THEY WERE GOOD PLAYERS FOR US BUT THEIR TIME IS BEEN SERVED,WE NEED TO CONCENTRATE IN GETTING YOUNGER AND MORE YOUNGER,NEW ENGLAND IS SIGNING ALL THESE PLAYERS BECAUSE THEY ARE PUSHING FOR ANOTHER TITLE,THEIR WINDOW IS CLOSING 19 OF THEIR VERY BEST PLAYERS WILL BE FREE AGENTS NEXT YEAR,THEY PROVABLY WILL BE ABLE TO SIGN 2 OR 3 OF THOSE PLAYERS.DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH MONEY IS GOING TO COMMAND VINCE WILFORK IN NEXT YEAR FREE AGENCY,PROVABLY ALBERT HEINSWORTH TYPE OF MONEY.THINK ABOUT IT HALF OF NEW ENGLANDS ROSTER COULD BE PLAYING FOR ANOTHER TEAM NEXT YEAR.THAT'S NOT COUNTING THE PLAYERS THEY GONNA HAVE TO RELEASE.SHAWN SPRINGS,THE FRED TAYLOR OF THE WORLD.I DO NOT THINK ARMANDO IS DOING A GOOD EVALUATION HERE BASED ON THE FACT THAT NEW ENGLAND IS THE TEAM DESIGN TO WIN THIS YEAR NOT THE MIAMI DOLPHINS.2011 MIAMI WILL BE ON TOP OF AFC EAST

Forgive me for my ignorance but how long ago was Audrey H. on tv

Guy's don't forget that after this year there'll be no more cap on what a team can spend so don't think for a minute that new eng. will be decimated by all there free agents, bob Kraft has deep pockets( also has good macaroni and cheese ...)

Yeah Cuban

Wasn't sure if that was a for sure or something they were trying to do. That's some Bull thou. Take a look at baseball with no cap. Guess they want the Cowboys n Indians to battle agagin.

Is it true you mutants still eat your young in Jorwzy? You'd think with extra ears and such you might have some advantage over us humans..but

Fact is, Jed was born in Ohio.

The new age? We just saw the Cardinals get to the big game with a old man at QB. There is something to be said for wisdom and experience. Zach is a coach on the field. JT is a Hall of Famer when motivated. Those are two old-age folk worth having around.

THE CAP WON'T GO ANYWHERE CUBAN. THE NFL IS NOT MLB OTHERWISE LET'S MOVE WASHINGTON TO THE AFC SO THEY CAN COMPETE EVERY YEAR FOR THE SUPERBOWL WITH THE COWBOYS.IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN BELIEVE ME

guys, not sure if the owners want no cap or the players but one thing is certain that the nflpa contract expires this year, i can see some owners not wanting a cap(e.g wash, dallas, new eng) and other teams wanting a cap(eg. carolina, arizona,st louis, the smaller markets) but you know what, like baseball , the team with the biggest payroll doesn't always produce a championship(when was the last Yankee's won a world championship??) and most times it's a team with the modest payroll that wins it(marlins, cards, white sox)it's all about chemistry.....

It aint gonna happen....

Even if it does, its a horrible risk for the Patriots.

I can guarantee it won't happen. Every other report on this (Schefter, Curran, etc) say theres almost "no chance".

Cuban

I understand the whole chemistry thing but as a fan it sucks to see teams like Yankees get every top player. It would be like Dallas taking Marino or ZThomas in their prime. Those were my favorite all time Dolphins. As a fan you would never have a guy for long without them being stole away. That would suck. Well unless u were a Cowboy or Redskin ect. fan

We need cutler. One bad year for Pennington and were screwed. Cutler is proven. Henne is not. Sign Cutler. Then we make a legit move at Boldin. (2nd round pick and Ginn)

BEST THINGS ABOUT CUBAN MENACE:

1) Unlike Desi Arnaz, he's a Cuban we can admire.
2) He's a monetarist, not a Keynsian.
3) His aversion to Scientology.
4) He doesn't belittle the Dolphins for their inability to stop the quarterback draw in crucial situations.
5) He stopped poking holes in pre-used condoms.
6) His indolence is less rude than slothfull.

Breaking News: The jed Mutant , sleep with your own brothers and sisters and look like the banjo boy in deliverance newspaper has reported miami will forgo all it's draft picks and sign Madison, surtain , taylor . madison and tim bowens to be player coaches . This way we can go back to the future , GIT-R-DONE ! GIT-R -done !

Also . i don't care if you were from alaska. With a name like Jed , you have to be a redneck and sleeping with larry the cable guy . GIT-R-DONE ! Long time ago there was a man named jed..... one day he was shooting at a rock ...... yeeeeeee haaaa ' I just slept with my sister. GIT-R- done !

Some info on Peppers plus I will be copy and pasting two more things after this

-----------------------------------------

Julius Peppers - DL - Panthers

Citing two sources, NBCSports' Tom Curran reports that Panthers franchise player Julius Peppers is "virtually certain" to not be traded to the Patriots.

Curran confirms that New England is on Peppers' wish list, but calls Adam Schefter right to say the deal is "not gonna happen." The trade makes sense on paper; Peppers wants out of Carolina and New England is desperate for pass rush help. But the cap ramifications would be difficult for the Pats to endure and Peppers has never played in a 3-4 defense. Committing upwards of $75M to a player totally new to their scheme would be a colossal risk.

Dude really?? Cheaters?? YOu still hung up on that? Every one cheats get over it. At least what we did wasn't anything that drastically effective the outcome of games. Players still have to play the game. Hope you enjoyed your one winning season because its back to the bottom of the barrel for. I'm sure Buffalo wouldn't mind swapping last place with you again..

Some more copy and paste

---------------------------------

Jason Taylor - DL - Redskins

NFL Network's Adam Schefter gives the Patriots a "50-50" chance of signing free agent Jason Taylor.

Taylor figures to entertain offers soon after spending the last week and a half with his family. He may be willing to take less to play for a contender.
Mar. 17 - 2:13 p.m. ET

Source: Boston Globe

---------------------------------------

Julius Peppers - DL - Panthers

ESPN's Michael Smith calls the chances of New England acquiring Panthers franchise player Julius Peppers "slim and none."

Smith calls the Pats a "fit for Peppers," but doesn't see him as a fit for them because Peppers intends to become the NFL's highest paid player. Adam Schefter, Tom Curran, and Smith have all now disputed Vic Carucci's report.
Mar. 17 - 2:06 p.m. ET

The pats have made many offseason moves involving very recognizable named free agents, where as miami has gone with many under the radar guys which is why its easy to say that new england is the "winner" this offseason. Personally i hope the patriots make this move because peppers wont be around too much longer, atleast at a high level, where as the 34th pick is a spot where the pats could get a quality player who will be around for years. do you guys honestly think the pats will bust on their draft picks? if they dont see someone they like they find a way to trade for high picks in the future and they end up stock piling day 1 picks until they find the appropriate players...
I would also like to say to all those people who want cutler, are you crazy? this is not a bill parcells QB. Parcells QBs do not make bad decisions and do not turn the ball over. pennington had 7 ints in 16 games, he is a great decision maker that is helping this team mature. Granted he threw 4 ints in the playoff game but once the game got out of control pennington was forced to throw more, and that is not his game, he is a game manager, not a game changer. Cutler makes bad decisions like its his job, hes the poor mans brett favre. rocket arm, thats got a 50-50 chance of going to the right team. So i think we should continue having pennington coach henne, who will eventually take the reins and not only have a stronger arm then pennington but he will also have learned the game managing style from pennington and can be our franchise QB for years.

Let NE have peppers, well just throw to martin and fasano over the middle and exploite his weakness. Goodnight!

GIT-R-DONE . Forget the draft. Sign madison , surtain , taylor , thomas , cox and bowens as player coaches and we will win the super bowl THIS YEAR , Yes miami is that close . So GIT -R-DONE! Also I'm in love with my sister ! We have 3 lovely kids Shrek , eddie munster and the banjo player boy in delieverance.

Being a Dolphin fan in NC, I agree with the posters that aren't screaming "THE SKY IS FALLING" with Armando. As some have pointed out he is very inconsistent. Went 1 year where he was nonexsitent to 1 good year, to an ok year. As much as I don't care for JT anymore...I don't think you can compare the 2 as JT had multiple great years. Anyways to the guy who said Peppers can change a game at anytime...lol..Dude, so why didnt he change the game when Arizona bounced them from the playoffs. He was a complete non-factor in that game. Maybe he would have a good year with the Patsies...I really don't care. So you mean now we are all supposed to go...'aww damn..they got Peppers now..well lets just call the season...lets plan for 2010. Come on guys. Lets see what our big boys Vernon and Jake are made of. Go Dolphins

This just in"jason (saturnight fever) taylor decides to forgo any other NFL conditioning program and will not sign with any n.f.l team but decides to try out for the Dallas cowboy's cheer leader squad, once hearing that it's only for females he informs them he's already cashed in his man hood once he joined"dancing with the stars".. so there you boys he'll finally be teamed up with his brother in law..sort of...

yeehaw, my name is mutant boy from Jowrzy, I spend every hour of every day waiting for Jed to comment in Armando's blog because I am a mutant that eats my younguns and have two teeth and ooze purple jelly from my veins because I'm from Jowrzy, yeahh!

I wish I was as smart as Jed, but I am a mere mutant boy from Jersey...

Jed you are right. I agree with Zach and Jason Taylor being signed. Super Bowl or bust!!!

What a sick state of things when so-called Dolphin fans start to insult Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas.
