An intriguing 30 minutes with Stephen Ross

It was an interesting 30 minutes or so with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross Thursday.

Aside from the news I told you about first Thursday -- yes, check the previous post on this blog -- a couple of other highlights caught my attention most.

Tops on that list is that Ross obviously wants to win. Like, immediately, if not sooner. That's a good thing in that he's likely to do what is necessary to help Bill Parcells make that happen. But that also comes with high expectations on his part.

And so while some fans are thinking the Dolphins are still in rebuilding mode, Ross is thinking, well, he's thinking Super Bowl.

"I bought it because I want to see the team go to the Super Bowl," he said. "And win the Super Bowl, not go to it. You can go to it because it's going to be here. It's got to be us winning it."

Yes, the next Super Bowl will be played at Margaritaville Landshark Dolphin Stadium and Ross is pumped about the idea his team might do more than be a passive host. He's hoping his team is in it.

"I think it really addresses South Florida with the spotlight," he said. "You become the spotlight of football. The whole area is turned on. We're a reflection of that. Everyone is still thinking of the Miami Dolphins and it's an extension of the season. And everybody is hoping we're going to be the home team. It hasn't happened yet in the NFL but I would like to think this year could be the first time the home team is the site of the Super Bowl."

We'll see.

It is encouraging that Ross, who paid $1.1 billion for the Dolphins, is eager to win while not thinking he should inject himself into the football side of the organization that would bring that about. He told a story of a recent phone conversation with another NFL owner that was cut short when that unnamed owner said he had to run to a draft meeting.

"The absolute wrong place an owner belongs," Ross said.

Ross confirmed what I have reported to you in the past about the Dolphins not changing or tweaking their uniforms in 2009.

"I haven't really looked at that," he said. "There's still tradition ..."

Ross did share the look he likes best is the aqua-green pants and white jersey so you shouldn't be surprised to see that once or twice during the season.

Ross also said he recognizes the Marlins need to play at Dolphin Stadium in 2011 because their new stadium will not be open by that season as earlier anticipated.

"What am I going to do, say all of a sudden they can't play there? We're not going to squeeze them or anything like that."

P.S, I HOPE THIS IS THE LAST TIME

Where's Armando

Are you still sipping drinks with Stephen?

What does Stephen drink? He sounds like a 20-30 year old scotch man, no 40 year scotch, Glenfiddich probably.

Me I like a cool Grappa during the day and 20 year old tequila at night on the rocks shaken not stirred. Gets me going if you what I mean, hey my dog just pooped the carpet gonna stick some lightn bolts up his...got to go

I understand tradition but look at all the teams that did change their look and have won superbowls. The first two that come to mind are the pats and the broncos. Long standing organizations but they updated their look. Even the 49ers changed their unis during their championship runs. Tradition has gotten miami nowhere in a long time. We have new ownership, new management, new players, new attitude and now we need a new look!

gopats
Eukanuba is owned by Proctor and Gamble my friend. Now, P&G is a US based company and has it's hands on a lot of main stream issues but I won't get into that. Lets respect the sacred blog as I once read.

ps last time I talk about your dog

In case you guys don't remember how the Dolphins used to look, here's a link to a site with old logos and uniforms: http://www.sportslogos.net/team.php?id=150

Personally, I like better the new logo, but would love the all white uniform back and definitley remove the "drop shadows" (as I learned earlier) from the numbers.

Since the scare about pet food a 2 years ago many new pet food small companies came out here in the usa and they alredy doing BIZ like crazy due to their food made of things we know ,you find their product in small pet stores .
P.S..the old tire company FIRE STONE was a us company but the tires were made in china.these tires used to fly on the road while driving.

Cool info MaCo
I like the one with a Dolphin jumping with a football thats the one Dolphins should use.

Gopats
that Eukanuba breed specific is great stuff for your lab my wife Hera, she swears by it. Her coat has a beautiful shine and the dog loves it too.
Small companies will carry it, most companies should have it.
Any way good luck with your lab gopats

Zeus, thank you giving me advice, i agree that brand is a good one and famous and that's why i shy away from it. from it.i promise every one no more talk about any dog or pet food any more.

Gopats, Eukanuba is the way to go, get a 40 pound bag at petco for 15 to 20 dollars...

cuban,no more dog talk, please, onlt football talk
Q FOR YOU........which pet would good at playing football?
1-frogs
2-sneaks
3- alligators
4-sea gulls
5-Pit Bulls

in golfito bay south of costa rica

That is nice, gopat. Do you speak Spanish?

Nice link Maco. Glad I waded through the chatroom girltalk to get to that.

I like the current stadium logo and the unused helmet (much more progressive design but could use some tweaking to be a little more like the stadium logo).

Let's face it, the unbis are boring. They need to go back to aqua and update the logo and unis. That unused helmet is a great step in the right direction - bold. I have always liked the new Broncos uniform and that sort of direction would be a good change.

Doesn't matter with regard to winning but it would sure make for some serious sales for Mr. Ross.

do you speak italian?

Mr Bunglito in da house, what's up kid ?

Hi, Gang.

I've been back from Canada for awhile, but I haven't posted because I brought back a horrible infection and was experiencing fever, dizziness, delusion, coughing and a horrible sore throat. I had relations with my wife last night, and hopefully, am back to my old self.

Here are some observations:

1) While I was recuperating, I watched the episode of "All In The Family" where Meathead wants to make love to Gloria while she's wearing a brunette wig. It is perhaps the funniest episode of AITF. But, frankly, I prefer Sally Struthers as a blond.

2) I see BHO is getting chummy with Hugo Chavez. I also remember former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres holding hands with Yassir Arafat, looking like boyfriend and girlfriend. Posterity remembers and shames such foolish and dangerous endeavors.

3) We recently had the 62nd anniversary of Jackie Robinson's landmark breaking of the color barrier. Less well known is that Robinson played the 1946 season for Brooklyn's Triple A affiliate - the Montreal Royals. When the Royals won the Little World Series, he was chased by a mob of fans in celebration. Someone later commented that it was probably the only time where a black man was chased by a white mob with love, and not lynching, on its mind.

4) An exhibition Spring football game is currently being shown on ESPN featuring Nick Saban's Alabama Crimson Tide in an intra-team scrimmage. I understand that the winning team gets a steak dinner, and the losing team will eat beans. It would almost be worth losing just to be able to launch some massive bean farts in Saban's direction.

5) Cuban Menace had nothing to do with the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

yeeeeeessssss. nobody is in da house.

really, a 450lb tuna?

buffalo, what? are you kidding? bye bye.

jacksin, put down the drink and tell the folks why we have to believe in you? now you have the floor.

well, i do like tuna. chunk light in water.

you can also believe in the fact that this blogs alot better after a few drinks.

what are you drinking ? what you think about the dradt this year, any thing to stand out?
