The Dolphins have addressed their wide receiver needs by selecting USC receiver Patrick Turner.
Turner played at the Senior Bowl and just said the Dolphins were the first team he talked to. Turner did play in a pro style, west coast offense at USC.
"I felt that really prepared me to take the next step," Turner said. "I feel like I'm a pretty good red zone threat. To be on the other side of Ted Ginn and Ernest Wilford we can be a good threat."
Turner compares himself to a Marques Colston and Keyshawn Johnson. He is a big, big dude at 6-5 and 223 pounds.
Although Turner talks of coming to the Dolphins in addition to Wilford, the fact is he's probably going to replace Wilford on the roster. Wilford will be trade bait going into training camp.
Although he was one of the top-rated receivers coming out of high school, Turner under-achieved at USC. Oh brother.
"He's not a good player," ESPN's Mel Kiper said. "He didn't do it at USC."

USC's leading reciever was a guy named WIlliams, Damian Williams a WR not a TE. So if you are going to throw stones, which you are entitled to do Armando. At least do a 10 second google search to back it up.

Lang or Jamon Merideth....when we do pick
Posted by: zephon | April 26, 2009 at 12:35 PM
dont blow this pick. lots of good offensive lineman still available
Posted by: Fake GM | April 26, 2009 at 12:35 PM
mntnmanfinfan
you just describe Mel Kiper Jr
But i agree, we wont know whos a bust and who isnt till at least the end of the season. So, in the meantime i have to look at whos opinion i value more. Kiper and draft experts on espn or the trifecta. Right now, its the trifecta.
Sure, some of these players look like reaches BUT you don't know what other teams were thinking. Raiders took a safety ranked 7th round in the second. everyone slated them. then it turned out he'd got a call from da bears who said they'd take him in 2nd round. So in retrospect the raiders did the right thing. if other teams were targeting Pat White in 2nd then getting him there wasnt a stretch cos he should be productive.
Posted by: chris | April 26, 2009 at 12:36 PM
Jamon Meredith please!!!
Posted by: Fake GM | April 26, 2009 at 12:36 PM
LooK Cincinati...they are making the best draft off all, they took now Center J.Luigs. We dont have a backup center !!! Go for Sidbury / Robinson / Sammie Lee Hill
Posted by: Sharbo | April 26, 2009 at 12:36 PM
NT, NT, NT or Sidbury....please.

t taylor this pick
Posted by: Sal D'amico | April 26, 2009 at 12:37 PM
trade working
Posted by: pancanfinfan | April 26, 2009 at 12:38 PM
they will trade this pick along with Beck
Posted by: the fox | April 26, 2009 at 12:38 PM
Marques Colston was a seventh round pick that many were saying should have been undrafted. He turns out to be one of the best posession receivers in the game.
What make you think Turner isn't a Colston clone rather than a Wilford/Brandon London clone?
Please answer that question.
Posted by: Ricky | April 26, 2009 at 12:38 PM
Nelson & Ingram, 2nd round TE in the 4th.....they are both explosive down the field and Fasano and Martin are free agents next year

Guys, didnt I tell you the Dolphins we NOT done drafting WR's?
Posted by: FB | April 26, 2009 at 12:40 PM
hartline? this is the 1st one I wanted to NOT be a WR. Like the player, just not here.
Posted by: zephon | April 26, 2009 at 12:40 PM
...and its...a pick - Brian Hartline THE ohio state! Played on the other side of Robiske. NIce pick!
Posted by: pancanfinfan | April 26, 2009 at 12:40 PM
Brian hartline OSU
Posted by: Tommya | April 26, 2009 at 12:40 PM
Mando didnt you think derek hagan was a good pick when he was drafted......what do you think now? I wish all of you sports writers would post a story showing times when you were right bout draft picks and times you were wrong. You guys will scream all day long if a pick doesnt pan out but when they do i have never once heard you say i was wrong on this guy. All you do is start kissing thier A**. Print a story showing all the picks you said were bad picks and the players you felt the dolphins should have and see how those careers turned out. If your honest you will see you are closer to being Wandselt/Spellmen/Cameron than Billcheck/Johnson/Parcell.
Oh by the way i'll see you at the family reunion
Posted by: Armando cousin | April 26, 2009 at 12:41 PM
Another receiver!!! Hmmm..
Who's Hartline?
Posted by: RobbyMarino | April 26, 2009 at 12:41 PM
wth? How many receivers do they plan on carrying on the roster?
This is a good thing. I like to see stockpiling on positions of dire need.
Posted by: bill | April 26, 2009 at 12:41 PM
no prob Sal, NFL.com has a stram too but i can't seem to get it, maybe cos im in europe.
Love ESPN but wouldnt watch their draft show. Mel Kiper thinks hes alot smarter than he is, Bermans a Dolphin hater. Plus NFL networks pundits are guys who have done things in the NFL, Faulk (hall of famer) gruden (superbowl winner) nuff said
Posted by: chris | April 26, 2009 at 12:42 PM
The Dolphins are getting no value at all. This is the worst drafting I have seen since the Wanstad era. Just my opinion, and I am not an NFL scout, but this is awful, awful stuff. I am sorry to be so negative. But they have reached on so many picks. This is disgusting.
Posted by: Fake GM | April 26, 2009 at 12:42 PM
Mando where are you?
I told you we weren't done picking WR's. Now what can you tell us about this guy? Is he any good?
Thanks
Posted by: FB | April 26, 2009 at 12:43 PM
OK, I officially have lost confidence. I was hanging in with the previous picks and trying to keep the faith. Hartline? Are you kidding? Another WR that doesn't fit the mold, doesn't produce, and is a huge reach at this point in the draft. What are they doing?
Posted by: RH | April 26, 2009 at 12:43 PM
for our next 3 picks I'm expecting to get TJ Lang or Jamon Merideth, or Terrance Taylor...at least one of those 3 and possibly 2.....and I'm out
Posted by: zephon | April 26, 2009 at 12:43 PM
Mando . Looks like Greg camarillo won't be raedy for the start of the season ( P.U.P. LIST ) after the hartline pick.

TJ Lang would have been a good pick, who the Packers just got.

Do you REALLY think the Kiper's and McShay's of the world spend a lot of time studying the prospects beyond the projected 2nd rounders? They don't care if they hit or miss because all they ever get evaluated are on those first 2 sexy rounders. And YOU - you guys look at who did well and who bombed on these drafts based on what these draft gurus have put out. Pro teams have scouts and coaches who travel all over the country to actually WATCH and evaluate - meaning they know what they are talking about, unlike the ones who watch the YouTube films in their little ESPN cubicles and run their mouths on TV. They don't have time to go out and watch these kids in person. When did you ever hear about some of the 4-5 round picks? All from these draftniks and that's it. Don't get too excited or dejected by what you hear from them. Tom Brady should have been picked as a Top 3 pick if these guys knew what they were talking about. Draft is a crazy thing and you don't know until these kids put their pads on and actually perform. If we can get 2-3 consistent starters out of each draft, we're good to go.

How many wideouts are we keeping on the roster this season? I like the pick, it will make for great competition this year at training camp. Lots of toys for the pre-season for Henne. nice
Posted by: flavio | April 26, 2009 at 12:46 PM
Nelson, Ingram and Louis Murphy avaialble? HARTLINE????????? He was rated as a free agent!
Posted by: Chnaster | April 26, 2009 at 12:46 PM
Brian Hartline 6-1.5, 195 4.553/40.He's an underclassman at OU. Not sure if he was the heir apparent to Robiske but apparently the phins like something about him. By the way, I think this draft is a ringing endoresment for Cameron Wake (dolphins signed from the canadian league). No Linebackers taken thus far.
Posted by: pancanfinfan | April 26, 2009 at 12:46 PM
Earl,
Yep, hartline is a return guy.
Posted by: Tommya | April 26, 2009 at 12:47 PM

"Hartline tested unbelievably well. He's got more quickness than speed....He's got good size for a receiver and has a great mental makeup, which is a key element to what Bill Parcells looks for in building his team."
There you have it folks!

With guys being taken all over the place I would like to see Taylor picked asap. I don't want to miss on him!!
Posted by: njrich | April 26, 2009 at 12:50 PM
what experts know about selecting draft picks, turner will be great for dolphins, the people who took a team from the dead should be giving a salute from Kiper hips and all the experts who agreed with nick saban for years.
Posted by: Gpats | April 26, 2009 at 12:51 PM
yeah our next pick should be the guy from michigan taylor hes a good value from a good school go big blue!!

Reach, reach, reach, reach, reach, reach, reach, reach, reach,
Posted by: Fake GM | April 26, 2009 at 12:52 PM
Hartline can catch, he plays faster in pads then he times in the 40, he knows how to get open. He's fearless. And he's a return guy.
Production? Well OSU sucked at QB so you can't judge him by his numbers, the game tape will tell you everything about him. Too bad we don't get to see game tape.... except for youtube highlights. ;-)
Posted by: Tommya | April 26, 2009 at 12:53 PM
ESPN can not stop talking about White and Wildcat....funny...
Posted by: stating the obvious | April 26, 2009 at 12:53 PM
Peter King had Hartline going in the 2nd or 3rd.

yet more proof espners are dopes---they're debating whether John Beck is/should be on the trading block,or whether he's a keeper as 3rd qb--is this really an issue now????
Posted by: Sal D'amico | April 26, 2009 at 12:54 PM
Sorry to be so negative. I hope Parcells proves me wrong. He has the credentials obviously.
Posted by: Fake GM | April 26, 2009 at 12:54 PM
Who Cares about where this guy is suppose to go in the draft. We Need a big receiver like him. Lets see what happens in the season. You never know a bad pick untill after the season. For example lorenzo booker in the 3rd a couple of years ago and didn't do sh$%# and he was rated to go in the 2nd.
Posted by: Moose | April 26, 2009 at 12:54 PM
I wouldn't be opposed to moving up for Taylor right now. With so many teams going to 3-4 he may be gone before we pick again.
Posted by: njrich | April 26, 2009 at 12:54 PM
NFL.com analysis
Hartline tested unbelievably well. He's got more quickness than speed. He may have been better served staying in school. He's got good size for a receiver and has a great mental makeup, which is a key element to what Bill Parcells looks for in building his team.
Posted by: chris | April 26, 2009 at 12:55 PM
hartline has a 33in vertical which makes him a redzone threat
Posted by: Superfin72 | April 26, 2009 at 12:55 PM
I HONESTLY DO NOT LIKE MEL KIPER... LOOK AT HIS HAIR. DOES HE LOOK LIKE HE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THE NFL???? HE IS AN IDIOT THAT KNOWS NOTHING. HE ONLY HITS ON THE SURE PICKS AND ELITE PLAYERS. IF MY GRANDMA WATCHES PLAYERS LIKE STAFFORD AND SAHCHEZ SHE CAN C THEY R GOOD. BUT WHEN WE GET TO THE HEART OF THE DRAFT (3-5 ROUND) HE KNOWS NOTHING.
Posted by: DaRealMr305 | April 26, 2009 at 12:55 PM
I'm telling you guys, our guys know what they're doing. No Joke! This draft class is going to make more of an impact than last year's. You wait and see.
