Dolphins pick ILB J.D. Folsom in 7th round

J.D. Folsom was sitting around with his family today, pondering his future as a veterinarian, when the Dolphins called to tell him he'd been drafted in the seventh round.

"I really didn't think I was going to get drafted," Folsom, an inside linebacker said. "I've already been accepted to veterinary school at Oklahoma State and Washington State. I really did not expect to get drafted. I just thought I'd be picked up as a free agent."

The Dolphins had other plans. They want the Weber State linebacker to play in Miami. They want him to compete as an inside linebacker. They want him to play special teams.

"I do a little bit of everything. I played outside. I've played mostly inside. Mostly run stuff, I guess. They're looking for me to play in the middle," Folsom said. "I'm willing to do whatever the coaches are willing to do. Whatever they have planned for me is fine with me."

Folsom said he knew caught the Dolphins attention after his Pro Day. So what's special about him?

"I hustle a lot on the field," he said. "I try to make things happen. I have a lot of heart."

Folsom said J.D. stands for John David but only his mom calls him that when she's mad at him.

I can't find him at nfl.com or espn.com. Not that that's a bad thing since it's so late in the draft, but I would love to know more. Sounds like one of those core special teamers, high effort guy.

Mando, Ricky Jean-Francois is still on the board. What do you think is happening? Would like your thoughts...THX

WSU finished number one in division two & after miamia harry finished at WSU !! go cats !!

miami that is

being that a olb was drafted this late does this open the door for JT to besignd sooner than later?

Maybe they hope he can be a Larry Izzo type?

But the Dolphins' draft proves that they were not high on certain guys like Darry Beckwith, Frantz Joseph, Ricky Jean Francois et al.

Hey Mando,

Profootballtalk has that the broncos are shopping Jarvis Moss for a 7th rounder. Would Miami be interested?

So basically the Fins want to bring him out on the field and unleash him on kickoffs and punts like a hungry dog in a room full of raw meat.

Sounds like fun!

how about Rashad jennigs Mando, still on the boards, or Harell as a practice squad qb?

NOW THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!!!

Hey jets fan didn't we hear the same thing from you guys last year when you got brett.
get use to the fact that miami will finish in front of you. You guy can end up with better pick but we will end with a better record.
FINS RULE THE jets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My UF expert Edgar Thompson tells me Jarvis Moss is 6-6 and fast. he had like 30 sacks in one season at his Texas HS and blocked to FG and an extra point one game versus South Carolina while at UF. he got busted for smoking pot. Underachiever.

travis bright had an amazing combine, any chance of him with our last pick?

OK, guys, who do we take with our FINAL pick - 7th round - pick 28 #237?

Thoughts?

We were awful in special teams last year, looks like they are addresiing, the picks are great. You guys read the Q&A with White. Great guy will be running wildcat. Big CB Big receiver upgraded special teams with guys that will hit ya....great

EXCELLENT POINT! Agree with you 100%!

Folsom was suspended for half a game at the start of 2008 because he kicked a Eastern Washington player in the 2007 season finale.

Good blogs Mando. After watching some of the NFL Network vs ESPN the NFL Network was head and shoulders above the clowns on ESPN.

To use football parlance the ESPN crew has grown old and slow. Their highlight was continually talking over each other.

Anyway I like the draft - Pat White has all kinds of potential uses and the CB's they picked could be starting this year.

It seems they might in fact look at JT or they think they are pretty well set on the front 7 defensively.

NASTY STREAK? We need a guy like this on special teams.

Mando that was in 07...he is a hungry animal that will do exactly what the coaches tell him to do in special teams.

I though Ricky Jean-Francois would have been picked up by now. know he is a little small (around 298) for a 3 -4 tDT but he is a great player and high motor guy. played him in high school and he was the reason we lost. HE IS A FORCE. Miami do the right thing and bring ricky back to miami.

AGREE 100%! NFL Network provided OUTSTANDING analysis.

You guys are cool with him kicking an opponent?

Marlon Favorite DT from LSU could be a nice last pick

You guys are cool with him kicking an opponent?

an opponent? yes

teammate? no

Jet? Hell yes

This football you need mean streak players if you expect to win, nice guys finish last in football.

Mando, show me the film, playing out there who knows what exactly happened. Remember the UM vs FIU game? Sounds like he learned his lesson, no suspensions in 08 and no other trouble.

Very funny Chris! I laughed.

I know alot of people are giddy over the Pat White pick but the Dolphins are saying he is going to compete at QB. How many QB's can we select with 2nd Rd picks?

Is there now any realistic chance that somebody will give Miami a pick for Beck?

"You guys are cool with him kicking an opponent?"

He blew his cool. He paid his price of getting suspended for that 1/2 a game.

Would you rather have him or a guy who gets busted for drugs and gets suspended?

Coaches will channel his aggression into special teams.

Maybe this guy will be the next Larry Izzo?

Mando,
Maybe the other guy told him his momma wore combat boots. That is enough to make a man want to kick you, isn't it?

I am not cool about him kicking an opponent but that sure beats someone that talks about himself in the 3rd person and has many people saying he is uncoachable!

hungry animal and was pick in last round, may god bless you mr ovious.Nick saban had a team of hungry animals also.get smat people, this draft one of the worst draft years in 10 years .the only ones that are good;

SANCHEZ
DAVIS
BRABTREE
BUTLER........THE REST ARE JUST SALSA

Armando, clearly people make mistakes. Albert Haynesworth is a perfect example. Heat of the moment, yadda yadda yadda. If it is a 1 time thing then I think it is OK.

Not cool with him kicking an opponent per se, but withut seeing the incident, am cool with someone with that intensity. Not like he is completely out of control and was suspended time and time again (or was he?).

We need some more intensity on our special teams as our group was a liability last year.

Haynsworth stomped some guy in the face and I'd take him in a second!

ye sanchito from jetlito

love me some Brabtree :P

Time for a remedial English class?

Jets gonna get FISTED again by the Fins this year! :-)

Does anyone else feel numb? I haven't showered or shaved in two days and I've been living on pretzels and beer. My wife hates me and I swear I'm going to throw my kid's hotwheel at the flatscreen if I see that dumb-a$# Drew Rosenpunk commercial on ESPN again.

rhetorical question me thinks....

So he kicked a player?? Big Deal!!! Would you not sign Albert Haynesworth as a Free Agent if the cap space was available?? I think you would and lets remember this is a player who didn't kick a player but STOMPED on the players head. Its not like he has a history of being a punk. A momentary lapse in judgement on the field can be excused.

ARMANDO and chris, i would love for him to kick ted gin also

Can't wait to see the list of FA the dolphins sign in the next 24 hrs.

Chris, hilarious, hell yes! Looks like we traded our pick in the 7th with the Panthers, and we're now picking at #237? Or was that already the case?

Armando takes his anger out by stomping on the roaches roaming throughout his kitchen and bathrooms.

EXCELLENT POST! I think it's safe to say many of us are feeling this way! :-)

mando and Finfan13 thought my comment was funny?

now i feel presure to keep up the comedy :-S

"Can't wait to see the list of FA the dolphins sign in the next 24 hrs."

Me too! Tuna ALWAYS brings in some of the BESt FAs around.

Let's hope the braintrust finds some more "gems" that went undrafted! :-)

Maybe hes got a little Jack Lambert in him, kicking someone?
But I would like to see the video clip on that and then maybe comment, the context...was he just kiicking ala Lyle Alzado? or sneaking it in somewhere during the srum (pile) ala Rondney Harrison?

Armando what do you think of this draft class?

cneighbor, don't feel bad ,most people on this blog they only shower when their in laws show up at the house and VOLDOMORE never took a shower on record

Zack Follett just picked by Lions!

We needed a star, game changing go to receiver and the answer was Turner and Hartline?!!! Remember Ireland's line regarding receivers?? "We want players that create seperation." These two slugs couldn't create seperation from a geriatric patient in a walker!!!
...Wearing corrective shoes!!!

Face it... when it comes to picking Wrs all that Parcels and Ireland know is how to s--- all over themselves!!! Give them some TP and call it a day!

PS: The Tuna's ex-protege, Belicheat took the teacher to Schoooool!!

Aqua 1

Tuna knows what he's doing. You'll see.

I would be ok if he would kick both Nick Satan and Cam "I drafted all of Ted Ginn's family" Cameron....would even pay him to do it twice...but of course, if we didnt have it so bad, maybe we would have never gotten Tuna and his "Man Titties" and Ireland and the man I think is perfect, Sparano...just left curious with this draft, obviously they have done homework us armchairs have never done, just dont know what I dont know....

DAMM!!! The Lions just took Zack Follett. That's enough...I'm going to hit the showers and return to society.

trade?

Dolphins trade their pick to the chiefs.

we traded the last pick to KC

what we get?

What did we get? What did we get?
