Taylor expected to join the Dolphins

Jason Taylor is expected to rejoin the Dolphins as early as today.

I have confirmed that Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland and agent Gary Wichard have been negotiating since early, early this morning and the sides are very, very close to announcing a deal. The deal is a one-year contract.

In negotiating this reunion of the team's All-Time sack leader and the club that drafted him in 1997, Taylor snubbed overtures from a handful of clubs, not the least of which was New England.

Taylor's contract is very salary cap friendly. He walked away from an $8.5 million base salary in Washington and told the Dolphins he would play for whatever they wanted to pay him. It is unclear exactly what they will be paying him. The Associated Press is now reporting Taylor will make $1.5 million.

That doesn't seem to matter much to Taylor. He wanted to return to South Florida and the Dolphins because this is his home. He wanted to finish work and go home to his family. He wanted to sleep in his own bed every night. He didn't want to spend another season in a distant NFL outpost while his family stayed in South Florida -- that was his situation last year after he was traded to Washington.

In signing Taylor, the Dolphins add the kind of quarterback pressure they lacked outside of Joey Porter last season. Taylor, 35 in September, has 120.5 career sacks. Although he managed only 3.5 sacks last year, his lowest total since 1999, there were extenuating circumstances for that.

Taylor was injured much of the year, asked to play out of position, and asked to gain weight in Washington. In Miami he will be used as a pass-rusher in the team's nickel and dime packages and is expected to compete for a starting job at one of the outside linebacker jobs.

It is unclear how exactly the Dolphins will manage to get both Taylor and Porter on the field and comfortable at the same time in their base defense -- an issue that went unresolved when they last played together in 2007.

Taylor, a source tells me, never intended to play for any other team but Miami. "Miami is the only place I'm going to play," Taylor told friends and family after gaining his release from Washington.

After he basically forced his way off the Redskins by refusing to accept new contract language in a restructured deal, Taylor told Wichard he wanted to be in Miami.

Wichard met with Washington owner Daniel Snyder at Joe's Stone Crab and informed the Redskins of Taylor's intentions to depart Washington. Taylor also had Wichard turn down at least two movie opportunities so that he could spend the offseason training and the regular-season, well, playing.

Taylor has been in constant contact with coach Tony Sparano as the two have texted messages back and forth for some time. Sparano went so far as giving Taylor the basics of the Dolphins offseason workout program in hopes Taylor would follow its parameters on his own.

Taylor hired a personal trainer and has been doing the Dolphins program. Taylor will join the program as soon as he signs.

The addition for the Dolphins is a loss for the New England Patriots. Owner Robert Kraft actively recruited Taylor in the press. Coach Bill Belichick called Taylor and Wichard, his agent. The overtures were never rebuffed but at no point did Taylor or Wichard talk contract or salary with the Patriots. There was never a handshake agreement between the sides as has previously been reported by Boston-area media outlets.

The Dolphins and Wichard are ironing out details in the contract as we speak but there should be a deal signed by the end of the day, according to a source.

I hear the tuna will be dining at shula's steak house tonite where he'll tackle the 96 oz porter house steak for a appitizer and then he'll be ordering his entree.

I will admit I never thought the Trifecta would bring back JT. Now that they have for the amount of money they signed him for and his VETERAN leadership he brings to the club, (which btw-ties in your article of veteran leadership on teams) tells me that the Dolphins are thinking SuperBowl this YEAR.

Armando you mentioned that the A Boldin door is still open. Are the cards still interested in taking less for what they were asking pre-draft? And what would the Dolphins be willing to give up now?, aside from taking up salary space on the Dolphins roster.

Greg Cote please, even if they didn't sign JT the Dolphins were never throwing in or gving up on the season. They actually pay this to guy to write?

Welcome back Jason Taylor!

I have to go to my mother in law's house now and dig through boxes in her garage for my wife's Jason Taylor's #99 jersey. She insisted

Gopats you are wasting your time on this blog. Like a child molester in a school. Not right. I will insult you every time. What kind of a loser you are to get on this blog. Oh where were you born?

I am sooooo embarrassed!

Hello Fin boyz did u miss me :)

Now the aspect of having a better pass rush (with Taylor/Wake) and a group of young and talented CB's and safeties, the Dolphins are gonna shut down some teams. I will look forward to seeing our defense take the field. The offense won't be asked to carry the load just score enough points to win. Pat White is gonna open things up, the offense, another year under offensive coordinator Dan Henning, will be even better than last year.

Is this enough to make a SuperBowl run though? I can only hope...If not this year or next can we squeeze another year out of JT?
Who knows maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but I feel this momentum and its been linear and getting bigger since the Tuna arrived, and two drafts and a season into his tenure and I feel this SNOWBALL effect of success keeps growing and growing. The Dolphins want to win now and in the future and everything the Trifecta has done speaks of it. Loudly!

Go Dolphins Go!

Ace sounds like an angry guy... could he be m@@c ? what do you guys think, ok the menace is on the blog, shoot the Qs to the cuban.

Cuban Menace, I'm pretty sure it was you who always had something negative to say to anyone who commented about wanting JT back over the last few months... I can't really tell if you're still talking sh*t about it now that he's back, but if you are, you simply can not possibly be a true Dolphins fan. Sorry to say, it really is that simple. Being a true fan of a team absolutely deals with sentiment and loyalties. So you're clearly not a true fan, if you are STILL trying to hint that bringing him back was a bad decision.

Maxx, You know ive got mixed feeling bout j.ts return, he said the right things bout why he wanted to come back, he loves the phins and showed by taking millions less then what hes really worth, thats class my friend with a capital C . so welcome back home mr. taylor cant wait to see you play.

Or Dance...

Its great that JT is coming back. He is definitely in my top 5 Fins of all time and when he left that got a little tarnished. Now that hes back its water under the bridge.

You need to make sure Cote keeps his job. He is like a fat ugly friend. He can only make you look better.

Do not compare to that azz m@@c. Don't you start with me. I am not affiliated with any of those bozos.

Or Dance...

"I think Gopats is cool. He comes to a Dolphins blog and challenges you guys." Armando said.

I agree with Ace on his take on gopats. Hey ace try this one.

I think the child molester is cool. He comes to your kid's party and challenges all the parents. Just plain sick. Go for ace, insult that loser.

I heard what you said about me gopats. What is up with you? Lot of people hating on you today. Chill out. Sack Brady.....Hurt Brady..

Finally!! Jason can be doing what he did best, Putting Brady on his A$$.

Now get Boldin!!!

recomend star trek really impressed, great movie.

Will the trio bring in ted(oppps i dropped another)ginns little sister tednisha( all the way)ginn into the dolphin/ginn family ?

Could Miami move Roth inside as ILB next to Crowder? Roth would appear to be the kind of stout run stopper who would work there.

I Wonder if tednisha(all the way) Ginn is a parcells gal ? what ever that means..

Taylor was signed as trade bait to lure Boldin.

Look for a Taylor + mid-level pick to Zona for Boldin in the near future.

Ihave this on very good authority--trust me, & remember you heard it here first!

Armando, I'm sooooo happy Miami signed Jason Taylor! Jason was hurt last year, he wasn't in top shape and he didn't want to play in Washington but played because he wanted to prove a point to BP! I promise you this year, Jason Taylor will be the comeback player of the year! He is motivated to prove people wrong, he's back at home, and he knows that Miami is NOW GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL, WHICH WILL BE PLAYED IN MIAMI! SO JT, HELP MIAMI REALLY CELEBRATE BY GETTING US TO THE BIG DANCE! WELCOME HOME JT!

Ace ,your point is weak one , but attacking Gopats doesn't help you , you really sound as homeless west palm beach dirt on drugs

cuban assassin aka ace aka dfan,,,,,,,F you, did you find your mama yet ?

This is great news, but wont this take away from the Stud CFL signing in Cameron Wake? Seriously people, youtube Cameron wake and see how athletic this guy is. On the bright side, competition is good, right Mando?

we should get Boldin now and use jason Taylor as a bait

soulahbeat, why don't you honor us with photo of your red neck face to look deep in your eyes and see if you a zzzzzzzz

Welcome back J.T.! I was mad at him for leaving but if it's true that he is accepting less money to play for the team and state that he loves, all of the bad feelings from the past are forgotten. This is win/win for both sides. The Phins get a great pass rusher at a bargain price. He is an awesome member of the community and will be a great mentor for Merling and Langford. He will also help Long get better at handling some of the faster ends in the league. J.T. will repair his image in south Florida (yes it took a hit when he left) and he will also be closer to his family. I can't find anything wrong with this deal but now I'm going to read some posts and I'm almost positive that there have to be a couple of fans that will hate this because he will be supposedly taking developmental time away from some of the younger guys,,lets see.

bills ......9-7

Armando please tell me you didn't say GOPATS was cool,REALLY? Did you say "challenges us" or he finds the english language challenging? Did you say "challenges us" or that he seemed to be mentally challenged? If you seriously think he challenges us you may be reading the wrong posts. :)Also, f**k the patsies and all of their bandwagon fans who were non-existent until the late nineties.

NY SCOTT, is one cool nick saban lover, but it's not fair to attack gopats like that when he didn't insult you and you are not that smart either, in my book you azzzzzz.

Jason Taylor rejoins Dolphins
MIAM:I … Jason Taylor has rejoined the Miami Dolphins. Most experts, including the league commissioner

have publicly stated that Taylor is "All washed up and definitely over the hill." Dolphins QB, Chad Pennington said that he would like to go on record by saying "If that old man plays for us, I'm gone."

It was also reported by local channel 6, the NBC affiliate, that "so far over 16,000 season ticket holders have asked for refunds," the largest request for refunds in the history of the NFL.

Taylor's agent, Gary Wichard, says the 34-year-old linebacker signed a $1.5 million, one-year contract today with Miami. Dolphins management, which asked for anonymity, said they would make a decision by Friday of taking the option of "buying out" his contract and releasing the former All-Pro. They also were quoted as saying that "in todays' economy, no NFL team could take a hit of losing that many fans at one time. It would bankrupt the team and we would probably fold and be out of business before the first preseason game."

The NFL owners will be holding an emergency meeting this weekend at league headquarters in New York City to have a contingency plan to deal with the possibility of the Dolphins not playing this season due to the amount of season ticket holders not paying the balances of their tickets. Paul Tagliabue, the league commissioner said "this is going to be a sad day if we have to dissolve the Miami franchise."
