Intrigue and inefficiency at morning practice

The Dolphins have finished what I would tell you was an unspectacular practice this morning.

I saw way too many dropped passes. I saw a lot of passes to running backs. I saw very little inspiring work. Just my opinion.

And during interviews following the practice, it became apparent coach Tony Sparano had a talk with the team and ordered players not to comment on the offseason banter between linebacker Channing Crowder and Jets coach Rex Ryan.

Sparano told Crowder on Thursday not to speak with the media unless it was cleared by the team's media relations staff. He also told him to tone down the rhetoric. Then he shared the same message with other players.

Crowder was not made available to the media although several TV stations requested to speak with him. He evaded reporters and cameras by entering the locker room through a back door rather than the door the other players went through.

"No comment on that," Pat White said when asked about the back-and-forth.

Joey Porter, perhaps the most outspoken of Dolphins, actually said he wasn't paying attention to the taunting. Yeah, right.

Sparano was asked about the issue during his post-practice presser. He clearly wanted nothing to do with the subject.

"We're in June right now," he said when asked why Crowder walked in the back door.

We're in June right now," he said when asked if he thought the banter was funny.

"You guys must be running out of questions," he said when asked if he's addressed the subject with the team.

Linebacker Akin Ayodele offered this nugget initially: "I just don't think it was necessary for a head coach to be bickering with a player," he said.

Asked another question on the subject, Ayodele said, "I want to move on. I don't want to be talking about those things."

Ok, let's talk football.

Yuck!

Pat White had a tough practice. He overthrew tight end Joey Haynos on one sideline attempt. Haynos is listed at 6-foot-8. He followed that by skipping a pass Patrick Turner. And he completed his day by chucking a sideline toss over the 10-foot fence that runs parallel to the field the team was working on today.

I have never seen a pass tossed over the fence.

"Just throwing it away," White said of the throw. "It went a little far, huh? I wanted to get it out of the field of play and not give anyone a chance to touch it. I guess I put a little too much on it."

I guess if he had more accuracy on his other throws his intentions to throw this one across the street might have been more readily understood and not been mistaken for just another errant pass. White was asked about the accuracy that Sparano descried as, "hit and miss."

"Just got to keep working," White said. "Never stop. Never give up. Never give in."

I must remind you this is one practice. White can easily come back in stellar fashion for the afternoon work. And he would need some company to raise the team's level of performance.

Ernest Wilford dropped two passes this morning, although one would have been an excellent catch had he executed it. Brian Hartline had a drop. White had a pass batted at the line of scrimmage by Quentin Moses. Chad Pennington had a pass batted at the line of scrimmage as well.

It wasn't all bad.

Greg Camarillo, recovering from ACL surgery, is running quite well. He is now completing a full practice -- approximately 52 repetitions --- for the first time. He stuck out during the practice for the right reasons, catching every pass thrown his way and getting open. Camarillo will not take every repetition in the afternoon practice, according to Sparano.

Joey Haynos had a one-handed catch in the end zone during 7 on 7 drills.

Paul Soliai got a lot of work with the first team defense today as Jason Ferguson was apparently resting. Soliai looked quite active, but these are not a live or full-speed drills so it's hard to tell.

Sparano said Soliai's weight is still "not where it needs to be," but added he has every confidence, "it will be where it needs to be."

mando,

how is tony mcdaniels looking? is he at DE or NT or both? thankx

some news about Sean Smith or V. Davies?

How's Scorpio Babers looking? Kid got potential.

Did Ginn Jr. and Bess have a good day catching the ball? Are there any players in negotiation for an extension on their contract? the would be FAs next year list is bothering me. I say Ronnie, Roth, and Fasano need to be done now to get savings b4 stock rises after this season. I would say Pennington too for 1 more year too.

Earnest Wilford needs to get it going and I mean like now. He has been treading water way too long. Catching passes is what he is getting paid to do. If he isn't going to do it, give back the money and get into another profession... one where he can get paid for something he CAN do and feel good about earning it.

Good news about Greg Camarillo. The guy is simply amazing. No one works harder. I pray he doesn't have a set back. I really think we are going to need his consistancy.

A 6"8 TE that can make one-handed grabs? I think thats a good weapon to have.

1-any one saw the movie " Earnest goes to jail " ? i was told it's the best movie of the earnest movies

2- why they don't let fans go to these minicamp, it's only football, hitting and more hitting ,what's the big deal with not allowing fans to see.it's not like soccer where the mind control the game not the FAT

They would let fans go if it weren't for the cheatriots!

Flipper, grow up,TUNA is the god father of Belichick. some do better than the others.it's football not really a smart sport after all,the players should thank god every day to make this kind of money playing this game.

PS...did you see Earnest goes to jail ?

Mando only mentions the bad throws that PT made. Tony Sparano said PT completed 67% of his passes. Are you calling Tony a liar? FUGETABOUTIT!! You wanna get buried under the 50 yd line at Landshark stadium.

sound like Pat White going to at best 5 qb or a bust

Uh oh! I can see ArchChairDoh is already bashing White in favor of Henne. Tell us oh wise one...why no mention of Henne in your daily reports. Why all the White bashing but nothing on Henne?

Will everyone shut up about Resigning Ronnie Brown. Running backs are a dime a dozen and there is absolutely NO WAY that the trifecta is going to spend the type of money Ronnie will demand at that position. You can get a running back that can give you 80% of what Ronnie will produce for a quarter of the price. We would be better served to get a beast of a Nose Tackle to replace Ferguson.

gold is better than cooper . cooper used only by Plumbers .

Judging from Pat Whites collegiate career, come crunch time he'll deliver. Big games? He has won more bowl games than any other QB in the history of the NCAA. So when it comes to how fast he catches on/develops, I'm not worried at all. Ronnie Brown was adequate in the wildcat last year, and will be even better this year. Enough said on that.
All I would like to see of the wildcat is a change of pace/catch em with their pants down strategy. I see Parcells and Co building a good tough pressure defense. With Ricky and Ronnie power running over people, opening up the play action pass. This will be our true bread and butter.

Armando, what's up with the DT rotation? Who was on the def. line on 3rd down passing situations?

you do a lot of PT bashing on here.... was he the only QB to make a mistake? or are you just a hater? He's only been in the system for 2 months.... you've been writing stories for years and still misspell words and use improper grammer....give him a chance

Hawaiian Tropic is better than Coopertone too.

WE WILL THE SUPER BOWL WITH PAT WHITE AT NO 2 , WE WILL DESTROY JETS, BILLS AND THE CHEATS.EVERY DAY I DREAM OF THE RING SINCE 1985 WITH NO LUCK, SINCE THEN WE NEVER HAD A QB WHO BRING THE RING HOME TH O GET THE RESPECT OF THE WORLD,WE NEVER HAD A WORLD CLASS QB BUT NOW WE HAVE PATE AND CHAD.P AND CHAD.H AS NO 3,MAY GOD BLESS THE DOLPHIN NATION.

GO FINS OMEGA 3 FOOD
TUNA RED BEANS
SALMON
ALMOND
ICE BERG LETECE
BACALA FISH
BUFFALO MAZZARELLA

odinseye , stop asking dumb questions, you trying to sound like a football mind but you do sound like a salad tosser .

I love soaking all of this in with the media's take on what's happening at the OTA's ....and appreciative of the feedback but everyone has to relax this is OTA's for crying out loud. Pat White will have the jitters probaby until the 1st preason game. I love our core team and we are going to give the AFC East fits this year. We are not the same team as last...we're better and we still took the AFC East title. Tom Brady will not survive the season...I hope the Jets start Sanchez we'll eat him for lunch...and the Bills yeah well the OL is terrible and Marshan Lynch is nothing but a mugshot. Trent Edwards will be starring at the clouds until somebody picks him up. So bring on the season I'm ready.

Asking about our Defensive line is a stupid question? Yeah, sure buddy.
I'm talking football and you want to talk salad tossing.
No thanks.
You sound jealous, don't hate bro, just keep reading my stuff and try to catch up.

For Sunscreen and Silver. "Copper" like the metal or "Coppertone" like the sunscreen each have 2 P's. Your Hangin' with Mr. Cooper.
I would wager that either of you can't make an argument against my previous statement. The only reason they would ever consider resigning him is if Pat White is a complete bust running the wildcat and we need him for that.

Mr.Cooper ,is it true Henne completed just 48 percent of his passes today ? bust time

When I listened to the whole Sparano interview on the Fins site - I got a totally different impression from the way he talked about Soliai. It sounded to me like Soliai is going to be the long term replacement for Ferguson. Nothing specific just the way he said things. It is up to Soliai to get the work ethic right. He may lack the self discipline to make it big in this league.
