Live blog chat at noon Thursday

The Dolphins open their three-day mandatory minicamp on Friday. They will practice twice on Friday and Saturday,  and once on Sunday.

And that, of course, can mean nothing other than a live blog chat today.

So from noon until about 2 p.m., I'll be on here and available for your abuse input. We can discuss all things Dolphins. We can discuss the AFC East. We can discuss the recent blah-blah-blah going on between Channing Crowder and Rex Ryan.

We can discuss how you are going to survive the next several weeks while I'm away on vacation starting Monday.

If you cannot be here Thursday, you can pick one of several options:

No. 1: Leave your questions or comments now and I'll answer them. You can come back at your convenience and see the community's reaction.

No. 2: You can forgot about today's live chat and hang out with me during the minicamp updates on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

And C, as Dave Wannstedt would say in his warped intelligence:: You can forgot about Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning and simply call my radio show Sunday afternoon 4:30-7 p.m. (I'll give you the digits and streaming address over the weekend).

No. 4: You can do none of the above, which makes you, like me, ready for a vacation.

Talk to you guys (universal use, AO) at noon.

Armando,

Obviously depending how the season goes, do you think the Trifecta will get any big name receivers next year out of free agency?

Johnny, there a lot of variables in your question. We don't know what will happen this season but we also don't know if next year will be capped or uncapped. That makes a difference on who will be a free agent and who will not. If it is an uncapped year, everyone with four years experience or less is not free.

I cannot predict all those variables to give you a solid answer, my friend.

Dear Mr. Salguero

In all of this Dolphin chatter I have not heard one word about Ricky Williams.

Is that good or bad ?(hey A real Football question)

Soiled :)

Hi Armando,

What do you think of the Sanchez deal? Is he really somebody to be worried about, or just the Jets overpaying again?

I think the Jets have shown their hand in how desperate they are in getting Sanchez signed and working to become their starter. I think he will struggle -- a lot -- early in his career because he didn't really have a lot of experience in college. He had nowhere near the number of starts that Ryan and Flacco had so comparisons to them are warped.

But eventually, yes, he will be someone the Dolphins will be concerned about. Eventually.

Dear Mr. Salguero

"Then I'll come back before training camp opens and start the season of blogging."

Let me get this straight, your saying I have to go outside and play till training camp ?(Now my Mom wishes you were always on vacation)

Mr. Bottom: Your mom and I share the same wish.

Hi Armando,
Thanks for all of your great insights. I apologize if this has been asked already because I haven't read all of the comments. How does Matt Roth look? Does he appear any leaner and faster? Are they running any defensive formations with him, Porter, and JT on the field at the same time?

Armando:

In re Soulja's question as to where I have been during all of this Rex Ryan - Channing Crowder controversy, I'm sorry but a I have actually been working.

My question for you however is, wouldn't it be more appropriate for Coach Rectum Ryan to wear a large plastic red nose and an orange wig for his press conferences? He is seriously the biggest clown I have seen since, well his dork father, Pud Ryan. Also, does he jump from a 2 story building to get into his enormous trowsers or are they simply spray painted onto his grotesque girth?

Thank you for your insight, and I await your responses. Be well.

RexRyanSucks: Dude, this was one of the funniest posts I have ever read on this blog. I'm laughing as I type this.

Mando,

Who is your pick to be the rookie, or undrafted free agent that will have the biggest impact on the team in the season based on what you have seen so far?
Also, do you think the Trifecta will add Ernest Wilford to the wildcat as yet another wrinkle, or will they just use Wilford as the TE/H-back in the regular system? Do you think he will even be on the team come regular season, since Pat Turner has been turning heads so far this off-season?

BRANT: Sean Smith and Pat White. Like them both a lot. I don't think Wilford will make the team

6. DB's - are they a tight group and supporting each other? or are they wary of each other.

AHAHA, this comment made my morning.

From what you have seen so far....Do you think the Former CFL players DE/OLB will have an impact this year?
PS--I have seen my share of CFL games, and I can say that OL players in the CFL are like barrels compared to NFL standards, so I will not be surprised to hear negative comments about their impact.

Joey, I know the CFL is not NFL quality. But I have a hard time believing a guy who had 30-some sacks the past two season will shrink to being a non-factor for the Dolphins. Cameron Wake looks the part. I believe he'll be OK his rookie year and get better as he progresses. At least I hope so.

Armando,

Which player do you think the dolphins would like to unload for a late draft round pick?

Armando, Id like to attend a fins game this year (first time to landshark stadium) what section, row do you recommend?

Hey Mondo

I hear that Ted Ginn Jr. has improved, but how different is he from last year?
( I remember another guy who had sub 4.3 speed--WR. Charles Gordan/Jordan who "dominated" OTA/camp and I dont think he in the league anymore.)
Based on the OTAs--do you think Ted Ginn Jr. has the tools to be truly successful?

Tony: It's mAndo. Anyway, you're talking about Charles Jordan. He was a great receiver in shorts and helmets and then disappeared when the hitting began. It drove Jimmy Johnson batty.

I think Ginn will be better, as he has been every year, than he was the year before. If you chart the next level of progress based on his first two seasons, he should be a 1,000-yard guy this season.

Mandito,

Have you seen the nice series "El cartel" on TV?

Muchas gracias PAPI

Armando

What do you see from Henne. Do you see the improvement.

"Akin Ayodele, Channing Crowder, Joey Porter, Matt Roth, Jason Taylor, Reggie Torbor, Will Kershaw, Charlie Anderson and Cameron Wake."
Posted by: Armando Salguero | June 11, 2009 at 01:15 PM

I think Orion Martin and Erik Walden make it with Anderson and Kershaw not making it... could you share why you came up with these guys... Akin, Channing, Joey, Matt, JT, Wake and Torbor I get.

Thanks.

It's simple, Finsupremo, the guys I gave you are the ones running first and second team right now -- or at least the last few practices I saw. Wake is running third team, but I think he's on the team unless he totally washes out, which he will not. The other guys are running behind the ones I mentioned.

Butas I stressed, this all changes when the HITTING BEGINS.

Mando,

You chose White and Smith as the rookies who will make the biggest impact. Why? Do you think Smith will start?

Also, why do you think they will get rid of Wilford if they are trying to move him around and utilize his size?

Dear Mr. Salguero

In all of this Dolphin chatter I have not heard one word about Ricky Williams.

Is that good or bad ?(hey A real Football question)

Soiled :)

Mr. Bottom, it is good. It's wonderful that Ricky Williams is not in the news in the offseason. I prefer he make news in the regular-season because that usually means he's doing great things on the field.

Hi Armando,
Thanks for all of your great insights. I apologize if this has been asked already because I haven't read all of the comments. How does Matt Roth look? Does he appear any leaner and faster? Are they running any defensive formations with him, Porter, and JT on the field at the same time?

Diggs: At the last OTA Roth told me he weighs 275 now. He played at around 283 last year. He feels healthier because he had surgery to repair a torn groin. And coaches have been raving about him. He will be the starting OLB.

Armando,

Which player do you think the dolphins would like to unload for a late draft round pick?

Optimus: Most? Ernest Wilford. Would wipe $3 million off the books and it's not like, for all intents, the team didn't survive without him last year.

Mandito,

Have you seen the nice series "El cartel" on TV?

Muchas gracias PAPI

Fresita, never seen El Cartel. De que se trata?

Still on the LB tip...Akin and Torbor did not show me anything last year especially when Crowder was hurt. Besides special teams-what else do they bring to the table? That is why I was hoping that they drafted Rey M. from USC with their first pick...I think him and Crowder would have been awesome in the middle...Your thoughts...

Armando

What do you see from Henne. Do you see the improvement.

Pologirl: I see the best arm in camp. I see a body that has filled out and looks like a prototype QB body. I see him making better reads. I see the team's starting QB of 2010 or earlier.

Thank you Armando,
I have one more for you based on your observations from last year. What stands out to you as the biggest differences between 08 and 09 teams at this time of year(attitude, confidence, urgency, coaching, etc.)?

Obviously there are player differences, but does anything jump out at you in the team's approach to OTAs?

Mando,

You chose White and Smith as the rookies who will make the biggest impact. Why? Do you think Smith will start?

Also, why do you think they will get rid of Wilford if they are trying to move him around and utilize his size?

Brant: I think Smith best matches up against the big receivers -- Owens, Randy Moss, Hines Ward, Andre Johnson -- that Miami will face this year. I'm not saying he'll dominate them or even get the best of them. But it won't be a slam dunk everytime the QB throws the ball up to them and a short Miami DB can't match up. Smith matches up.

On Wilford, remember it is the coaching staff's job to find a way to make him valuable. That includes giving him a chance to play as many positions as possible. Unfortunately, I just don't think the odds of him beating out the guys ahead of him at any of those positions are very good.

Armando,

What's up man? Your colleague Barry Jackson wrote a few days ago that Patrick Turner has been impressing the Dolphins veterans this offseason. Have you heard anything from the front office about what they think of him so far? (I thought he was their worst draft pick value-wise, so I'm feeling pretty dumb these days)

Armando:

I don't know if Mark Lewis has a big right haymaker. I was thinking that anyone that can squat and lift 580 lbs and can heave a 16 lb shot put for 67 1/2 ft has got to have a lot of lift onto the opposing player. I realize the inertia obtained while spinning in the shot put is a big help to hurling a 16 lb ball that far but he shall have a strong arm that can be used in an offensive manner don't matter if he is playing on offense or defense.

I thought the Dolphins were drafting Maualuga also. I think he will be a good player although something about him obviously turned off some teams. And what do Ayodele and torbor bring? Very few mistakes. Experience. Consistency even if they aren't explosive or spectacular.

Abuse. ha ha . Good one Mando

Great question, Diggs: Last year this team was trying to get out from under the shadow of 1-15. They were trying to change the culture.

That old culture is gone now. These guys KNOW they can win. They KNOW they will contend. They believe. They're not just hoping. They're not whistling whle they walk through the graveyard. They're walking through knowing they're getting through.

Fake GM: Don't feel dumb. Nothing has been decided yet. I've seen way too many OTA Pro Bowlers that disappeared when pads went on. I'm not saying Turner will be that. I'm saying it's too early to say he'll be great or awful.

Dear Mr. Salguero

"I see the best arm in camp. I see a body that has filled out and looks like a prototype QB body. I see him making better reads. I see the team's starting QB of 2010 or earlier."

If Henne for whatever reason,Penny gets injured or has a bad stretch of games takes over the starting QB position in 2009.

In your opinion what are the future plans for Pennington from the Dolphins perspective and from Pennys perspective ?

What is the overall confidence level the Team has for Henne. ?

Soiled :)

Sam: A lot about playing along the line of scrimmage is technique. Yes, strength is obviously very important, but leverage and skill are equally important, especially when you're matched up against men just as strong.

I'm hoping this kid is a diamond in the rough. We'll see. Fair?

I've always wondered this living in Iowa watching games on TV. I've been to a couple of Fins games, and it was always scortching hot even in Oct/Nov. I'm assuming the climate definitely helps us from a conditioning standpoint. How does it affect opposing teams? Do you see our competitors from up north wilting out there during games?

Wow, Mr. Bottom, that's two football questions in a row ... You ok?

The overall confidence in Henne is such that internally the folks that run the team don't talk of him as a possible successor to Pennington. They talk of him as a certain successor. It seems written in stone, almost.

From Pennington's perspective, he's going to do all he can to hold off the day he's replaced. And when that day comes, he's going to be a pro and try to find another place to be the starter.

Diggs, the Dolphins have as much a home weather advantage in September and even October as Green Bay or Buffalo have in December.

I've seen teams from Denver and San Diego wilt in South Florida's heat. It is HOT and HUMID out there. No doubt about it.

Mandito,
El cartel es la serie basada en el libro el cartel de los sapos , colombian narcos. Muy buena. I think they show it on Telemundo. Top ratings. Ademas unas actriz bien bien buenas

Just to get my 2 cents in on this session, while it has been cool to obsess about who looks good in shorts, what do the rooks look like, are they lost, standing out, how will the right guard drama play out, the return of JT, all this pales in comparison to the last couple of days with the Crowder/Ryan pissing contest. Nobody on this team delivers a line like Channing does, and always it seems with a smile on his face.

Say what you want about Porter, and don't get me wrong, he's pretty good at it as well, Crowder is just better at it. When he gets to jawin, it's usually pretty damn funny. Case in point with Ryan. So at this point, since the Jets are the OTA champions, at least we have the OTA MVP in Crowder. He brought some good humor to what has been a pretty boring time of year for football. (OTAs and any other function in football that is conducted in shorts is boring)

Dear Mr. Salguero

"Wow, Mr. Bottom, that's two football questions in a row ... You ok?"

8 nonsense questions for every 2 real questions
Thats my new formula

Soiled :)

P.S. As the kids say Im just keepin it real

OK folks, that's it for now. I truly appreciate you joining me for this chat. Remember that tomorrow the Dolphins practice in the morning and afternoon.

I'll be there to tell you what's happening. So check back.

One more thing: If you missed the live blog but want to leave a question or comment, go ahead and do so. I'll come back later and answer or react to your comments.

Hey Mando,

how bout you and channing crowder vs me and Rex "Meg" Ryan in a tag team wrestling match.

All proceeds go to Omar Kooky and Harvey Fialwhateverer Grammar scholarship....

Works for me Joe Rose. But I must warn you, I've been taking a Kenpo class.

Thanks for doing this with us Mando... I also enjoy your stints on the radio...

You had mentioned earlier today that the Phins had not shown much of the Wildcat yet while the press has been around for practices... i had heard, however, that there was one particular practice where they showed it quite a bit, in fact, you Omar had went as far to say that they made such an emphasis to show it off, that it was 1. surprising they would do that given it's greater e/a?ffect if it was kept secret (as secret as it can be at this point) and 2. that showing it off the way they did was more than likely intended to send a message to the rest of the NFL that they indeed are working on it, and often, and that other teams should be prepared for new stuff... Did you miss that practice or is Omar over stating it? Combo of both?

*your competition, Omar...

Finsupremo: I haven't missed any practices. I know after one practice a Sun-Sentinel reporter asked Ronnie Brown about all the wildcat plays the team ran in practice and Brown said, "We weren't working on wildcat package at all. We were working on empty [backfield]."

The reporter seemed embarrassed about the answer.

Armando,

Just wanted to wish you a great vacation. I appreciate all the work you've done this year. I'll be counting down the days until training camp/your return. Like you've mentioned, there should be a lot of competition in camp this year, so it should be a fun camp.

Fake, I'm not leaving until next week. Come back this weekend for the blog updates. I'll be here.

Breaking news... Pat White takes off gloves at practice. Will also practice bare foot.

Yes I beat Armando and scooped him in his own blog!

Yo, bit ch, you can't be imposterizing me! I'm the real Omar Kooky with my caddy Harvey Fialwhatever who I throws under the bus on my blog every wonce in a whiles.

Mando, erase this b itch.

The cornerback position is getting a lot of press. It is clear to me that with the addition of Davis and Smith, the Dolphins will improve at cornerback. My interest here is the wide receive position and in particular Patrick Turner, at least in part because the pick was laughed at by all of the draft "experts."

I didn't hear much about him in the most recent OTA. Was he quick enough? Did he create separation against the better cornerbacks?

I don't hold out much hope for significant improvement at the wide receiver position unless Turner can impact immediately.

Your thoughts? And please keep an eye on the wide receivers at minicamp. They are our weakest position.

richard

Im in Pa. & i invested in sattelite & sports package in 1995 so i got Sunshine network & SportsFlorida. They had Dolphin shows on - Dolphin Digest & Dolphin Coaches Shows, Etc.But past few years i can find NOTHING on the 3 florida sports channels of the Dolphins.
i have to watch Sparano press briefs, player interviews, practice highlights, etc. Online now.
With all the national following the Dolphins have, why did they stop doing Dolphin shows????Or are they still showing them, but i cant find them??
theres a lot of interest out here around the country in the dolphins. some one down there needs to tap that market & start doing Dolphin shows again.
I watched the awards last week & Every single Dolphin fan should have had a chance to see that. The Chad Pennington Acceptance Speech & Answers to questions would have made every Dolphin fan PROUD as hell that he is on our team. He was absolutely the right person in the right place at the right time.
Unlike most, i see big things from this team this year. And the key word is TEAM. they enjoy each other, they back each other up & it is clearly Obvious they are having FUN as a TEAM.

Mando, that blog turd ukfinfan is taking your comments here and posting them on the Sunsentinel blog:

Mike,

Look behind you, the competition is watching ....

"Brent,

I saw Ireland's comments as written by the Sun-Sentinel baseball writer also. {retty mundane stuff. I don't think Ireland is mad per se. I'm sure he would prefer Crowder and Porter and the like not to call out other teams. But it is the offseason. It is harmless. What's the big deal? It's just empty talk.

If this was week 5 of the season, I would bet Crowder would get a talking-to and be "advised" to tame his banter. One thing that was interesting was that Ireland said he would take care of it. Isn't that Tony Sparano's job?

The Dolphins WANT Vontae Davis to win the starting CB job opposite Will Allen. They also WANT Sean Smith to win the job. They also WANT Eric Green to win the job. If all three play worthy of starting, Tony Sparano and others have said that's a GREAT problem to have. Davis is still in the thick of the competition, don't let anyone say otherwise. Remember, they have not put on pads yet.

Having said that, Smith looks like a beast out there. He's just sooo much bigger than everyone else. Reminds me of a guy who played back in the day named Joe Lavender. Look him up.

Two things I think are when they post your comment there, it's the only insight that blog has lately. Secondly, UKfinfan is a douche. Sorry I missed the live blog.

Great job Mando, got a question or two. Is there a league rule
that prevents teams from having pads on (real football) before training camp?

One more....I suspect that Parcells/Ireland/Sparano know we're $crewed at RG, do you think they will go after Waters or wait for cuts? Don't ask me why but I think they'll wait.

I always miss these live blogs... Hey mando, I recently went and watched some videos at the sun-sentinel and I was wondering what the deal is with Harvey... Is that dude for real? Does he have an actual salary? Is he crazy or just really really... really high? Notice his speech is slurry and his eyes are red. With the economy and job market as bad as it is I am a lil offended by his lack of professionalism or intelligence. People on this blog could do a better job. A retarded sea monkey would do better. Well i saw enough to suffice it to say it was the first and last time I look for information from them

anyways I mostly agree with what your flinging our way and I'd like to say thanks and enjoy your much deserved vacation. top 5 new players on the dolphins i'm excited to see play:

Gibril Wilson
Patrick Turner
Vontae Davis
Jake Grove
Cameron Wake

I'm glad someone has said it, Armando. I think u hit the nail on the head with this one "Ryan will soon discover he left the Baltimore defense in Baltimore. HE wasn't the Baltimore defense.

Ray Lewis, Haloti Ngata, Terrell Suggs and Ed Reed were the Baltimore defense. And they didn't make the trip to New York with Ryan." -Armando Salguero LOL I can't wait to see what happens this season. cheers!

jets will own you this year with our tarazan sanchez.Keep dreaming dead fish fans

lol the deal with your "tarazan" sanchez will leave all Jet fans feeling like they just had a Dirty Sanchez Biggest bust since Ryan Leaf

With all the comments about how porous our secondary was last season, shouldn't some mention be made about how long they had to maintain their coverages? The most improved player in our secondary should be our improved pass rush. No, they don't have any sacks yet, but, on paper, we have one of the most promising pass rushes in the NFL, and it isn't just from one direction. (Sure hoipe I'm right!)

Tarazan? You are an idiot. You probably meant Tarzan, a fictional character. Much like the jets and their fans.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!

The rookie that makes the biggest impact for the Dolphins this year: Charles Clemons.
While it may not be as glamorous or as evident as a wildcat QB, or a CB, it's a fact.
Clemons will be a beast on ST's. He's smart and tough enough to play SS, fast enough for a FS. He's excellent against the run, and will excel on zone/safety blitzes.
Not to take ANYTHING away from Bell or wilson...I'm sure one of them will be a great backup.
