On Chad's bad shoulder, Dolphins bad record

Chad Pennington said it best late Sunday when in talking about his personal adversity with a serious shoulder injury he might also have been talking for his team: "I'm going to hope for the best and expect the worst," Pennington said.

Although Pennington declined to be specific about his right shoulder's status, the team is fearing the injury is a dislocation of his throwing shoulder. Team doctors popped the shoulder back into place on the sideline but the damage was done, according to a source.

A dislocated shoulder is different than a separated shoulder in that a dislocation means the top of the arm pops out of the socket. In a separation, there could be damage to the ligament that connects the collarbone to the shoulder blade.

Both are serious, particularly for a quarterback.

Pennington will miss an unspecified amount of time. Depending on what the MRI this morning reveals, Pennington could be out as little as three weeks or up to 12 weeks, which would effectively end his season. If the injury -- regardless of whether it's a separation or dislocation -- is acute, it might require surgery.

And that also would be a season-ending situation.

Pennington has already undergone two right shoulder surgeries in the past. Pennington was talking like someone who expects bad news following today's MRI.

"I've worked extremely hard and have overcome a lot of adversity and been able to play when people said I couldn't play anymore," Pennington said. "I've been through two surgeries and I've been able to play and play at a high level. That's quite an accomplishment.

"Right now, I'm in a state of shock, truly disappointed because I know what type of work I've put in and what type of work that our team has put in. For me not to be able to be out there and help us fight through this adversity is tough to swallow."

The Pennington injury makes Chad Henne Miami's new starting quarterback. The Dolphins might also be in the market for a backup because Pat White simply is not ready to be the backup now.

Henne struggled against the Chargers, who riddled him with new coverages as soon as he entered the game.

"I think we gave him a few different looks that he probably hasn't seen yet," cornerback Antonio Cromartie said.

When he came in the game, Henne was confident he was ready to succeed. But he missed some open receivers either by not getting the ball to them or throwing elsewhere.

"I was prepared for this moment," he said of the time he was told to come in the game. "It's only a 7-point game and that's the moment you have to shine and come up and become a player ... Obviously tonight it didn't really show. I made some mistakes, but I'll be in that film room day and night busting my butt and getting better and lead this team."

The Dolphins need the leadership because right now they are winless and with few viable options for getting better.

Do you know any good playmakers for the offense? Do you know any available secondary players that can help stop the bleeding?

The Dolphins need both. Henne got no help, least of all from Ted Ginn Jr., who had six passes thrown his way, resulting in zero receptions.

The team gained 94 yards on its 17-play first quarter opening drive. And then gained only 195 total yards the rest of the game.

The secondary, meanwhile, continued to give up big plays. (This while Renaldo Hill notched an interception Sunday.)

"We can't be giving up explosive plays down the field like that," nose tackle Jason Ferguson said.

This game was depressing on par with last year's loss to Arizona for different reasons. That game was a blowout in which the Dolphins didn't compete.

This game was closer but it was depressing in that the Chargers were clearly the much better team despite missing several key players.Starting running back LaDainian Tomlinson didn't play. Starting center Nick Hardwick didn't play. Starting guard Louis Vasquez didn't play. Linebacker Shawne Merriman left the game after the first half.

And still the Chargers had more talent on the field.

Finally, this column I wrote for Monday's Miami Herald outlines how the things the Dolphins did so well in winning the AFC East a year ago are exactly the kind of things they stink at doing so far this season.

QB people QB, The dolphins have had a problem at QB for the past 10 years> I am not the smartes guy out there and i can and the rest of the league can see the dolphins have no QB. Henne is on the clock and this season is a QB avaluation season. Henne is and should be our focus from here on. QB people QB everything else on the roster just moved down the priraty tree. we need a fic-ing answer at QB!!!!!!!!!!

tuna's mistakes this year

1-not firing the OL coach

2-signing JT.

3-pat white when he needed DL players .

4-not signing goodman and holliday .

5-signing CROWDER .

6-not hiring the cuban menace to stare at TED GINN during games .

you remember every one was talking about JT coming back to mentor young players.we see how that worked .look at WILSON and FASANO.

Hits and Misses by the “TRIFECTA”

Bess: what a great go to guy
Ricky Williams: They could have traded or cut him, but neutered him along
Carpenter: cheap and good
Merling: Always with big plays
Langford: solid
Murphy: Good backup
Thomas: decent starter

Wilford: money down the drain
Wilson: put in clemons so you can save face
Resigning Crowder: Why not Bart Scott or Ray Lewis
Pat White: I cant wait 2 years for a 2nd round draft pick. Wasted pick. Outfoxed by Billicheat
Turner: If you didnt pick up a FA receiver or traded for one, this guy should be playing then
Hartline: Camarillo Clone, why waste a pick on him? No trade value

Isreal, take a step back put down that bottle buddie, remember its only 1 team ,theres the canes...oh wait a minute, well theres the Marlins...oh forget about them, but wait theres the panthers..no wait , i know we have the heat... oh damnn, go ahead and grab that bottle and enjoy a drink, or two or three, he11 drink the whole bottle , you deserve it buddy...

Why all this talk of getting another QB or drafting another QB??? All you haters have been dissing Pennington and wanting Hennne all off season and since the season started. Be careful what you wish for, because now you have it ........ Good Luck.

If Ginn went on the trading blocks there will be alot of interest from teams. Balt. will be at the head of the pack. Ginn will make and excellent slot receiver for a team that has a established number 1. I say hold onto Ginn a find that number 1. Ginn will be alot better player if the pressure of being the Dolphins number 1 pick and number 1 receiver went away.

Ginn was open on the 1st offensive play of the game for a touchdown, AGAIN! How many times have we seen Ginn open for touchdowns with the QB not able to get him the ball? The play calling has to be aggressive. If not, we will fail.

How many more times is gibril gonna get burned?I think once Henne gets timing with his receivers he will be fine.maybe we can now take some shots down the field

Woe is us!

Mr. Ross,

I want my fuking money back!!!

I love what CP has done for our team, yes Henne looked bad at first BUT our 157 million dollar line couldn't stop Hialeah Highs Dline yesterday. Henne did step it up though with each trip to the huddle. Give him a chance.

Thomas (66) is a joke at right guard. He missed more blocks than I could count, why was he still in the game in the second half? On one play he double teamed the DE with Carey and the ILB slipped right past him for a sack, you always defend inside to outside on pass plays. He looked totally confused, worthless in my opinion.

Ted Ginn? Cut him and the whole family, he is worthless as a trade, even more so as a player. He is not paid to run routes well, he is paid to CATCH the friggin ball! Period! I saw a highlight of what a receiver is supposed to do from the Ravens yesterday. Maybe Ginn should watch that to get a clue. I would at least bench him for the next game, let's see if Turner has the stuff to be a playmaker, we KNOW Ginn doesn't!

Last year, coach was good at evaluating the talent he had and putting the best team on the field, this year it looks like the best team is on the bench or inactive on gameday.

Call me disgusted.

Gibril is a joke. If Chris Clemons runs a 4.3 like they say. He needs to start.

It is clear that the WRs are the fundamental problem with this team. Whether it is Penny or Henne, the fact that they hold the ball for so long and then routinely dump off to the runningbacks (or get sacked) indicates that the receivers just aren't getting open.

Why not trade for Crabtree? I'm sure the 49ers will want a 1st rounder. Offer our 1st rounder in 2011 - heck throw in Ginn. We end up saving our 1st rounder in 2010 (likely Top 10 pick) and perhaps solve our WR problem. Michael Crabtree was the consenus number 1 receiver coming out last year -- he may not pan out, but at least there's a possibility he may. It's crystal clear that Ginn's drop against the Colts sealed his fate in Miami.

Joc, Even if the pass hit Ted (oops)gINN IN THE HANDS 1 Of 4 things would have happened #1) hed drop the ball,#2) hed fall down,#3)hed head stright for the side line #4)hed bobble the ball and a defender would grab a int...

In the NFL- Running the Ball usually sets up the Pass. Not in Miami!!! We are too scared to throw the ball...

We need a WR...period!!!

Finally, to see what Henne can do but will the O.C. let him throw?? Can we make a determination whether he can be a good QB in this league??

Change is needed

Crabtree can't be traded for...the deadline has passed...he either has to sign with the Niners by November or re-enter draft next year.

Wilson and Bell needs to be replaced ASAP!!! What a waste!!! Clemons should be playing now!!!

In Miami...is it possible to see a WR other than Bess make a reception and get YAC?? I dont think I've seen a WR catch a ball in stride?? Terrible....

GINN is a JOKE!!!!

I understand Cuban, but everytime we lose a game, we can't blame Ginn. If that's the case? We are in for a long season. We would have been better off keeping Brandon London. These new receivers aint did Jack!

We are wasting Ronnie and Rickys talents with out a Qb, what a shame we have sucha good ground attack, these runners are running over teams, i guess thats why all the passes coming out of our QBs go the Runners or tight ends, wait i forgot when we try to pass to our #1 receiver he drops the Fuc-ing ball! so sad so sad. i hope this kid Henne plays well it sucks to watch the jets win with a Rookie QB and a rookie coach, we have seen this before, atlanta, baltimore anyone, can i hear it Time for Henne to step up?

True blaming Ginn is not the answer, not sure what the answer is , and apperently none of the coaches have figured it out too.. this is just sad...

Everybody's blaming Ginn. If you guys are so smart? Why hasn't anyone taken his # 1 spot? That would mean our entire receiving core is a joke. Now what are we going to do?

Joc, i think that's the problem, teds still the #1 receiver, to bad to, with ricky and ronnie running wild if the fins had a vertical game they'd be hard to beat..

You fans are pathetic. Look at who we played? Falcons, Colts, Chargers. Any other team play a tougher opening 3 games? I work in Baltimore and the fans here are jumping up and down. Who did they beat? A horrible Browns and Chiefs team. They beat the Chargers barely and gave up over 400 yards passing. They have Ed Reed who is pretty good. Ray Lewis looked old trying to cover Gates or Sproles out of the backfield. I watched both games end to end. Our offense and defense lines were better, LB the same and our corners were actually better. Both team's safeties stunk. The difference was Flacco. His receivers aren't any better than ours. So now everyone can complain about not drafting Flacco or Ryan. Probally the same group that said we should have drafted Brady Quinn. Where are all you Brady Quinn lovers now? Lets see how the Ravens do against the Colts & Pats and how we do against the lesser teams before we start screaming the sky is falling.

Ginn is supposed to be fast but everytime he catches the ball he goes to the Ground or Out of Bounds....He is not a #1 receiver period!!!

Part of the problem with our WR's is Play Calling...Our O.C. doesn't trust the QB. He dinks and dunks the ball down the field. They are content with just getting 1st downs and not big chunks of yards. We rarely challenge the DB's or safeties...

Riddle me this, maybe I am the only one that see's this but why is greg camarillo playing on special teams when everytime cobbs take it he fly's right by camarillo before camarillo even gets close to make a block? And camarillo is starting? With what speed? The opposing teams D-line can keep up with him.

Ted Ginn Jr. OMFG dude you are absolutely awful. What a disgrace after that Chargers game.

Shake up the recieving core with Henne in now, Bess is a stud, Hartline is efficient, and why did we draft Turner so high if we aren't going to use him? I just don't understand I thought we play for now, not next season and than next season and over and over....

Oh no we suck again!! Back to loserville folks!!

It's 07 all over again, where every team in town was the worst in the league...

Dolphins - 2-14

Marlins - miss the playoffs again (lowest payroll in baseball and will probaly trade Hanley soon)

Heat - Will suck, lose Wade in the offseason, and go back to being an expansion franchise

Panthers - Will miss the playoffs for the 10th year in a row and move to Canada

Hurricanes - will be decent and hopefully make a solid bowl game

Can we go ahead and replace Will Allen with Vontae Davis???

Davis could do any worst!!!!

Will Allen is always a Training Camp Wonder but is below average against any other teams receivers.

I hate the coaching and playcalling.

In every game, it seems our opponents come out with a plan and then after halftime adjust and come out with a better plan.

We got destroyed in the 2nd half by SD. The team gave up in every aspect.

This upcoming game I want to see Henne and some new playcalling. He has an arm (supposedly). So this is what I want:

1. Threw deep and moderate to wr including Ginn
2. Keep rushing and wildcatting
3. I want to see some pressure-come with some blitzes

Then we can see if we need to start trading ppl, if so I would get rid of:

1. Ginn-he would be good somewhere
2. Porter and Taylor- old and tired
3. Cut Wilson

Sid Rosenberg is the only person so far calling out the coaches and the team and the playcalling- only person.

Why the heck happened here? We got pat white and did nothing so far...other teams have rookies starting and highlight films:
Knox, harvin, britt- and we have hartline, turner, white- NO STAARTERS!!!!

F parcel

Ginn needs to have his butt sitting on the bench in street clothes next Sunday and Turner needs to be on the field. I don't care how good Ginn practices, we've seen his game performances, THEY SUCK!! If what you do on the practice field does not pan out on game day then why keep using the same tired old formula that fails?

Coach needs to take off the Ginn colored glasses and give Turner a chance to show what he can do, at this point what can it hurt?

WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF COACH? That your mantra may be in error?

Did anyone else see the obvious lack of talent shown by Donald Thomas yesterday? The guy was horrible, I think I could have beat him pass rushing yesterday and I'm 58 years old. All we heard coach say about the guy is what a stud he is, I was watching him specifically. It looked more like DUD to me.

I agree JaxFinFan... We should start Vontae alongside Smith... We should also get Clemons some PT at Safety, start Merling alongside Langford, get Soliai more PT at DT, get Turner and Hartline more PT at Receiver, and play Wake at DE/LB

We need to see what we have, as we embark on yet another rebuilding project... This is truly getting old... We should also bring in another celebrity owner as well

Pennington being knocked out for a substantial amount of time is a blessing in terms that we can really good look at Henne as he is in his second season. (Sorry that he is losing time due to suffering an injury but he is the reason why we ran it on third and long in fourth quarter in Indy game and is the reason for the fumble in the SD game at goal line)...He was playing not to lose. We need to make a change and look at our future as this season is already a wash!

We are a very bad team...Only one playmaker and that is JPeazy. We do not have one playmaker on offense. Don't buy into that playmaker by committee crap one bit.

It is amazing how Minny's 4th WR was able to make that spectacular game winning catch and that our #1 is complete garbage. Stop making excuses Ginn and give me some results!!

Ginn's consistent poor play gives reason to bench him for at least one game. The way he has been performing we wouldn't be losing much if anything at all.

If Hartline is healthy, he needs to be out there.

Now the question becomes, what happens if Henne is discovered to be a complete bust...Where does that take us for next season?

Miami is way too Conservative !!! You know we have a problem when Sparano is overly excited about a missed field goal....

Can't they work out a sign and trade with the 49ers for Crabtree?

It seems like a no-brainer. Crabtree doesn't want to be in SF and Miami ends up with a young, possible difference-maker on offense.

Added bonus - they don't let the Jets get him from the Niners. Tampering allegation already shows the Jets are after him.

When your O-line gets paid 157 million dollars, your QB shouldn't be getting serious shoulder injuries. Your QB should have at least 2 or 3 seconds once in his drop, to read the receivers and step forward into his throw.

Yes the line blocks well for Ricky and Ronnie, however the line needs to block well for Chad too, which ever version of Chad is calling signals.

Once Chad version 2 came into the game the line forgot all their coverage calls, forgot what to do against a blitz, couldn't figure out the snap count, and watched the D come pouring in like Patton taking Sicily.

We did make mistake by not going out and getting a #1 WR. Ginn has dropped quite a few passes, not as many as TO though. This is where we will see what Ginn is made of, now that Henne is in, Ginn will start to run deeper routes. I'm not just talking fly routes, but even deeper routes over the middle. It may take a few weeks for Henne to settle in, but this will surely help Ginn. Bess can continue to run the underneath routes and get those chunks of yardage. We need to make opposing teams fear our passing game. Our running game is great, that is the only reason our play-action has been working somewhat. Now, hopefully...we'll be able to throw deep. Henne will be fine, this will make Ginn better...hopefully this is the spark we need!

Cuban, what happened to the spread offense they were bragging about during the off season? If they go 5 wide, I guarantee Ted is open. Also, teams are game planning to take Ginn out of the game. That's why I wanted Turner in the game. When Ginn is doubled, Turner will be 1 on 1. At 6'5". He should win most of his match ups.

Damn I'm sad today!

I'm really sorry to see CP go down, but please guys let's not give up on Henne already. This guy came into the game when we were falling apart! He's got this week to practice and move forward. Plus San Diego said they threw a bunch of new coverages at him. We'll see this week coming up.

They have GOT to do something about the safeties. I don't know if its Wilson sucking or needing to be a SS and not a FS. Either way, we need change there bad!

I wasn't happy with Will Allen yesterday. I really do think that Smith and Davis will be good someday, but we need Allen to pick up his game. Safety help was of course horrible again this game.

JT needs to shut up and play instead of lamenting afterward like he has been. I was happy when he came back but I'm starting to lament it now. I miss Roth back there.

Ronnie is looking good

Oline needs to gel better but are looking decent.

I'm done complaining. I'm hoping we can talk about a win next week. I'll even take 3-0

Just saw the highlights from the lions-redskins (not much) but I beleive they-lions-have a better team.

1. Wr- johnson
2. stud qb
3. ok rb
4. defense sucks but still

How did the lions improve some; How did the jets improve so much (its true dont hate); and we did nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we knew are wr were lackluster and we get 2 wr (hartline and turner) and they don't play?

Pat white with a 2nd hes not playing? I think he might be good with the wildcat but give him more than 2 plays and handoff. But I think he will get killed in the NFL-looks smaller than the 19lb baby born the other day-lol

roth is waiting for his paycheck now-huh

if he dont come back we r stoopid

I blame the coaching philospohy for everything:

bad calling, not making moves, make bad moves

I am think the season is over- lets get aggressive and put some young kids in there and get crazy with some plays

At least in the Marino era, I knew we were going to lose bc of no defense and running, but it was fun to watch. Man we suck-that game yday was so boring and disappointing. Play for three points WHY

Brien Griese for 3rd string

If we drafted Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco they'd have been on the bench behind Pennington.

People that are calling for more blitzes, we blitz often during the game, the problem is we always seem to bring the extra guy up the middle and we end up with a mass of bodies in a stalemate in the middle of the field. It is rare that we ever do any edge blitzes.

We blitz, but we suck at it. Our blitzes only serve to ensure that there are fewer people in coverage, thus allowing big plays to be made by our opponents.

I live in the Baltimore/Washington area and neither the Ravens or the Redskins have great WR's but their worst WR's are better then Ginn. Ginn needs to go! Trade him to Baltimore or somewhere and get what you can for him (if anything). We need to give Henne a chance. Bess is a keeper. Camarillo has slowed dramatically! I think his injury has hurt his speed more. Wilson is a bust! Put Clemons in and see what he can do. Crowder has never made plays and was so lost on the Rivers TD and in coverage it isn't funny. Bring Thomas back. Bring in Harrison or some WR's that can catch and with some speed. I knew we had some talent issues this year when compared to the teams we were playing so I was expecting more then 7 or 8 wins but some of the above players will have to go for us to reach 7 wins now!

Hp I agree with u I think we played the chargers tough. I was at the game and even the fans were saying how surprised they were that they were able to rack up yards and point against the ravens but we slowed them down. They got down to the redzone more than a few times and we held the to a field goal.

It's apparent that Miami missed badly on their draft picks and free agent signings.

1st Round- Vontae Davis- Not starting but is alternating with Sean Smith.

2nd Round -Pat White - at this selection you should be getting a starter. Not a specialist for the WildCat. He can't even contribute for the WildCat...

2nd Round- Sean Smith- Starting but sharing time with V. Davis.

3rd Round-Patrick Turner- Was projected 4th or 5th Round but the Trifecta reached for him and is starting or playing at all.

4th Round- Brian Hartline- Not starting or really contributing...

Gabril Wilson- High Priced Safety that stinks in Coverage. Almost single handedly lost the Colts game for us...

Y. Bell- Has lost a step and I can't think of a single play he has made for the fins...

Jason Taylor- Has lost a step...He is not the pass rusher he used to be.

At 0 and 3 it's now gut check time.

1. Do the players have what it takes to suck it up and play with a higher intensity level than they have been?

2. Do the coaches have the guts to make the changes necessary in play calling and personnel to make the difference?

There are some personnel moves that are screaming to be heard, does the coaching staff have the yarbles to pull the strings?

Ed Reed is a pretty good safety and burned for over 400 yards by Rivers. Adrian Wilson and Rogers Cromartie are good inthe secondary and they got beat like a rented mule last night. Fins fans are so fickle. If we win the next couple of games all of a sudden everyone is going to jump back on the band wagon. Last year we had a easier schedule and got all the breaks. This year we have the toughest schedule of ANY team in the last 5 years. We also have NOT got any breaks. Fasano's fumbles at Atlanta. The pick on Manning or drop by Ginn in Indy, the fumble by Brown in SD. If these changes go the other way or we play a team of lesser calber we could be 3-0 and everyone voting Parcells the next President. The two teams in the superbowl last year are 1-2, Panthers and Tennessee won 12 & 13 games each last year and don't have a win between them. Broncos are 3-0 and Bengals should be 3-0. Just like the stock market, you can't look short term but rather over the long haul.

Pat White simply is not ready to be the backup now. That was a quote from the blog, Henne didn't seem ready either....

This is good. Last year's 11-5 hurt us. Now we will be back on track to rebuilding. We are already a team that others respect. Miami fans are children.

My thought is, I MISS Renaldo Hill!!!!! The chemistry between Wislon & Bell sucks and Wilson is fast becoming the 2nd worse FA signing of the Tuna era!!

Most you guys are idiots, the foundation for a great team has been laid. Last season was an anomolly costing us much need higher drafting position. We werent nearly good enough to draft at 25. This season's exposing that truth. Still we had a great draft considering the positiom.

Sparano haters you havent a clue. Lets fire the coach and set progress back another 4-5 season. Really bright.

Guys like it or not we're still 2 drafts away from being a serious championship threat. Making playoffs are for chumps and winning SB's are for champs. We're at least 2 drafts and a full season away.

Some of you would have us pad our win stats at the expense of building a championship team. Draft position's critical in efforts to do that.
Knowing talent wise we're still far away I would much rather not have a sniff at the playoffs in our todays if it means toasting our championships of tommorow. Just cant get through to some you meat heads that right now you cant have your cake and eat it too.

Question, where have our TE's gone? Do we even have any on the roster anymore? Have we thrown a pass to one since the last time one caught the ball he fumbled it away?

Gates was the only TE on the field yesterday.

Bell is not bad, Wilson is a loser. For good safety play BOTH safeties have to be where they are supposed to be, Bell can't do it all by himself, he needs help and Wilson is not able to answer the call.

Does Clemmons have a one digit IQ, is that the reason he is not on the field? Jason Allen at free safety would be an improvement over Wilson, hell Ginn at safety would be an improvement even with his lack of gonads.

Go with Henne...see what Ginn has..evaluate this team..don't forget we are young in the secondary..hope these players succeed because if they don't its back to the drawing board..we need 2 wide receivers, a speedy lb, and resign Ronnie Brown..

Keep the faith...this team isn't as bad as o - 3..but its time to see what Henne has..should have tried this QB move even if Pennington didn't get hurt...we need to stretch the field..maybe this will help Ginn..

first off, we need to give henne a chance. he's going to need a couple of games to get his feet under him. as for jt, i agree he isn't looking as good as he was, but let's not forget he's playing a different position, on the wrong side! I love both jt and porter, but quite frankly they are the same type of player. jt needs to be on the other side, and to do that, you have to move porter. as much as we'd all like it to work, i just think it's a bad combination.personally, i think jt and his playmaking abuility would be better for us back on his side of the field, creating turnovers.once again, the jt porter experiment isn't working out the way it was intended, as he was brought in to spell porter, not replace roth....

Bash Bash Bash. How about sticking behind your team ??? We have a great running game but we need an explosive kick return game. Also need a go to wideout. Henne will be good. Our to young corners (Sean smith& Vontae davis) will be VERY good. Smith is a beast already. Have some faith ppl. 0-3....oh well, im still behind my team. :-)
