The Dolphins find themselves in quite a hole right now.
They are 0-3 after playing their worst game of the young season today, a 23-13 loss to San Diego.
And the news gets worse:
Miami's prospects of salvaging this young season have taken a hit in that starting quarterback Chad Pennington left the game in the third quarter with a right shoulder injury. The extent of the injury is not known right now, but it didn't look good. Pennington could be out a while.
On defense, Joey Porter, who led the team in sacks a year ago, also could not finish the game. He left the game in the fourth quarter with the hamstring injury he was nursing all week.
Chad Henne took over for Penninton and didn't exactly play Lou Gehrig to Pennington's Wally Pipp. Henne was chased, hit and picked off.
That interception was by Eric Weddle and returned 32 yards for a touchdown.
Henne finished with 10 completions on 19 attempts for 92 yards. His long completion was for 27 yards to Ronnie Brown. His QB rating was 44.2.
Henne did lead an inconsequential fourth-quarter TD drive.
The defense? Fine up front. Terrible in the secondary.
The Dolphins gave up two looong pass plays -- of 55 yards and 47 yards. And, the troubling thing is there was double coverage on both passes and the receiver still came up with the ball against two Miami defenders.
As outlooks go things look seriously bleak for the Dolphins now.

Well, lets prepare for the rest of the season in order to have a good pick on the draft and develop the rookies we have on the team.
I would like to see an INT from the rookies, we need them to improve...

Rejoice Rejoice! Henne steps up or we draft a QB with the top 5 pick we get this year.

Let's look at the bright side...We are on pace to have the easiest schedule next year.

lets go NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS 3-0 baby!
Posted by: chuck | September 27, 2009 at 07:17 PM
Set back would be an understatement. This team has lost their identitiy again. They have drafted players with good resume's who appear to be stuck in the learning curve, hello Ted Ginn were looking at you.
Knew the schedule was tougher in 09 but I though another year under Parcells and Sparano they would be tougher but thats not the case. Just seems like for every step forward were taking two backwards. I mean Henne looked lost for a guy who prepares like he's starting every week and the play calling showed that the coaches have no confidence in his play.
Posted by: drew | September 27, 2009 at 07:17 PM
Jets 09, that must be his age 9...and he hasn't come out of the closet yet that's why he types all caps...

BOBBY B EVEN YOUSE OWN FANS WOULD BEAT YOU DOWN FOR THAT ONE. YOU ARE A FUCKIN IDIOT BIGTIME

Time to get rid of Ted Ginn.
Posted by: scalzo | September 27, 2009 at 07:19 PM
Guys it was a Penneington game plan. Lets see what he does next week if he starts and they game plan around what he does well. My concern is that Ginn has now proven he is not a good receiver no matter where the ball is thrown at him deep or short
Posted by: Cheer | September 27, 2009 at 07:19 PM
Why are you guys even responding to the New York losers. It's a waste. I am actually suprised they can type.

BOBBY B THE FUCKIN IDIOT. HAHAHAHAHAHA.......

Tuna's a myth.
I wanted Ryan or Flacco, not a slightly above average LT & the myth that 'snagging' Henne in the second round was a coup & ensured our future at QB.
Has anyone watched Henne the last two preseasons? He sucks out loud. Just like he did today.
He is not the future.
We have to once again look for a QB.
Tuna blew it by taking Long over a franchise QB.
BTW--the coaches have already realized that Henne sucks---that's why they have him throwing the same two-yard hitches that they call for Pennington.
We are cursed beyond all redemption.
Posted by: The Seer | September 27, 2009 at 07:20 PM
time to see what henne's got.....probably for the rest of the year.
Posted by: phinsfaninne | September 27, 2009 at 07:21 PM
Jetset09,
Make sure you don't puss out and disappear when your sorry ass Jets tank later this season. We'll be here waiting for your sorry ass.
Posted by: CarlosVP | September 27, 2009 at 07:21 PM
This season needs to find out of Henne is the man. As the Jets and Patriots show, if you have a winning QB, then there is no need for gimmicky offenses.

Posted by: Brett144 | September 27, 2009 at 07:23 PM
Enough said. it will all work itself out. Henne is not the issue as much as a secondary that everyone knows cant cover the deep ball. Will Allen has gotten much much slower. Ginn can't catch.

Mando, ban bobbyd wahhhhhhhhh

Posted by: Jetset09 | September 27, 2009 at 07:26 PM
Ginn needs Henne to throw the ball deep Now all of those fans need to stop talking that s*** and realize that Ginn is a punt and kickoff returner or a number 3 WR he is not a one or two WR and Chad Pennington is better than what's behind him that's why he is starting
Posted by: KillerDolphins | September 27, 2009 at 07:27 PM
whats with that strange full circle spin henne seems to do after the snap? seems like alot of time is wasted before hes settled to pass.

You know, I can't stand the fact that the season is essentially over. It's also sad that our best reception on the day was made by our running back.

I'm surprised Jet even knows how to turn on a computer or could afford one given her strong grasp of the English language.
Posted by: TorturedDolphan | September 27, 2009 at 07:30 PM
Our major problem is our coaching staffs inablity to ajust and move playe around like Ginn like Wilson we need to speak up NOW!!!!
Posted by: KillerDolphins | September 27, 2009 at 07:30 PM
It could be worst. At least we are disappointed now as Dolphins fans. We could be Pats or worst Jets fans having our hopes built each week with wins all for it to come crashing down later in the year. It's like thinking you won the lottery only to find out your friends gave you a fake winner as a prank. Pats or Jets might win the East but neither is going anywhere far into the payoffs.
And for the guy who said something about rookies now and last year making plays. Falco and Ryan both beyond exceeded expectations and did something very rare for rookies QBs. Any other rookie making plays you just can't compare. QB is unlike any other position in the league. And remember Henne has been practicing and playing like a backup, during his 2 pre-seasons and mob up duty last year. He played like I would have expected him to play today. Next game if he plays I expect him to be a little better and to keep getting better each week. Progression is all I am looking for, nothing more nothing less. If after 4-6 games he shows nothing, then feel free to say he has nothing to give.
Posted by: Jaxphinfan | September 27, 2009 at 07:30 PM
SERIOUSLY,
WHY ARE WE EVEN BREAKING DOWN AND ANALYZING OUR PERFORMANCE, I JUST LAUGH AT HOW BAD WE'VE PLAYED LATELY, LET'S BE BLUNT, WE KNOW THE WILDCAT AND OUR RUNNING GAME CAN RUN IT DOWN PPL'S THROATS, BUT OUR PASSING GAME SCARES NOBODY, NOBODY IS WORRIED ABOUT PLAYING US, WE ARE A MEDIOCRE TEAM AND WE CANT PASS PLAIN AND SIMPLE, SO WHY INVEST SO MUCH PASSION INTO THIS TEAM, LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS AND U WILL ENJOY THE SEASON MORE. I JUST LAUGH AT HOW ANEMIC OUR PASSSING GAME IS, EVERYBODY KNOWS WHEN RONNIE FUMBLED IN THE ENDZONE, THIS GAME WAS OVER, LET'S JUST WATCH WITH NO EXPECTATIONS AND GET SOME YOUNG TALENT IN THE DRAFT NEXT YR. PEYTON MANNING WAS EVEN CHUCKLING AFTER THE MONDAY NIGHT GAME ABOUT HOW EASY THAT GAME WAS FOR HIM, HE EVEN YAWNED DURING QUESTIONS, IM NOT INVESTING ANY EMOTION OR PASSION UNTIL NEXT YR WHEN WE HAVE A CREDIBLE THROWING GAME AND A GAMECHANGING WR AND ESPECIALLY A TIGHT END THAT CAN ACTUALLY SPREAD THE FIELD AND SAFETIES THAT CAN COVER, I AM LOWERING MY EXPECTATIONS THAT WE ARE THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL, SO THAT IF WE WIN A COUPLE GAMES, I WILL BE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED AND EVEN IF WE FINISH DEAD LAST, WE WILL STILL HAVE THE PLEASURE OF WATCHING THE JETS COLLAPSE LIKE THE THEM AND THE METS HAVE DONE FOR THE LAST DECADE. GO GIANTS, (BEST TEAM IN NY THAT THEY NAMED THE STADIUM AFTER THEM)
Posted by: chuck | September 27, 2009 at 07:30 PM
are you retarded? jetsuck
Posted by: severinno | September 27, 2009 at 07:30 PM
One good thing is we will see if Henne is our QB of the future. If not lets trade Henne and Ginn for a pick or two. I have tried to hold hope for Ginn but he just does not have what it takes.
Pennington looked like he tore his shoulder up again so he is done with the Dolphins. It is going to be a long season but if we have a strong draft in 2010 we should be okay next year.
Posted by: Finsfan | September 27, 2009 at 07:30 PM
They are 3-0. You are still trying to learn where the caps lock is. So go ask mom and dad if you can stay up and play on the computer some more.
Posted by: Brett144 | September 27, 2009 at 07:31 PM
observations. Game was over when Brown fumbled at 1 yard line. Ted Ginn is terrible. (Scared and has suspect hands.) Dolphins have gone as far as they could with Pennington. It's Henne's turn now. Any fan who thinks they have seen enough of Henne to call him a bust is an absolute IDIOT. He gets the rest of the season to prove what he is. Offensive line is going to be good in the long run.Ronnie and Ricky are best duo in league. Philip Merling and Kendall Langford are going to be studs. Sean Smith and Vontae Davis also going to be big time players. This season is a waste as far as wins and losses. The only thing that matters in 09 is the development of Chad Henne. Period.

i ve been following this blog for the last 3 years and never wrote anything, but after this game im really mad; i have defended this team for the last 2 weeks but no more; what the hell ginn? are you ever going to develop, every week i see wr in other teams that have half you ability make catch after catch; is henne our qb? i know its just one game but we have all seen this before with our "qbs of the future" ( beck, feely, culppeper ), i want the dolphins to draft a qb in the first round next year, we lost on Ryan, Flacco, we could have had bress or schaub, allim saying is that we dont have a qb of the present and i dont think we have a qb of the future; also i know bill doesnt like star wrs but we need at least a reliable one; because by his account to win you dont need a star wr or a star qb or any overpaid guy, i bet he even thinks you can win football games with just an underpaid kicker; anyways iim pissed off; i just hope henne proves me wrong; im a dolphin and always will be just want the best for the team.

I hat Ginn, but his family is ok.
Posted by: Shadow Templar | September 27, 2009 at 07:32 PM
Henne & Ginn, together or apart, have absolutely no trade value.
Posted by: The Seer | September 27, 2009 at 07:32 PM
Ted Ginn again!!
It' too early to call Henne a bust, hopefully he'll start next week and shows his abilities.
What's up with this vanilla offense? Dolphins need to be agressive and put his players in position to make plays.
Ronnie Brown's fumble in the red zone did hurt.
I think we need a kick returner.
What's wrong with Carpenter who cant kick that freaking football into the end zone?
