Dolphins in a home Super Bowl a nightmare?

There is truly a leadership void afoot in this country. I believe that, for whatever reason, many people we have stupidly installed into leadership roles have lost their way.

I'm talking about leaders in business, politics (from all the parties), the car industry, Wall Street and the financial industry and, sadly, everywhere in government.

We don't have people that get it anymore.

And that's where Broward County tourism director Nicki Grossman comes to mind today. This story in The Miami Herald tells how Grossman, a long-time South Florida public servant and Dolphins season-ticket holder (she claims), is rooting against the Dolphins making it to the Super Bowl this year.

Now, suspend the argument about whether the Dolphins are good enough to get to the Super Bowl or not. That's not the point. The point is how anyone can bring themselves to root against their own team for selfish reasons.

And Grossman, by the way, has selfish reason. As head of the tourism folks, Grossman wants to see the Super Bowl fill every hotel room in her county come next January and early February. And, she figures, if the Dolphins are in the game, the hotel rooms won't be filled because local fans can sleep in their own beds at night.

So there would be no great influx of Super Bowl fans.

But this is where Grossman misses the mark. She obviously does not understand that Dolphins fans are everywhere. I have become intimately of this fact because in every stadium the Dolphins play, there are typically  at least 2,000 Dolphins fans rooting for Miami. I am also aware that all my readers are not from South Florida. In fact, a majority are from outside South Florida.

You guys are Dolphins fans in Texas, the Carolinas, New York, Hawaii, everywhere. And I get the feeling many of you would come to South Florida to watch your team be in its first Super Bowl since 1984. Am I right?

Grossman also doesn't get the drift that a Super Bowl game is played by two teams. And the other team not being from South Florida will surely also bring fans.

So her vision, in rooting openly against the Dolphins, is myopic.

Leadership? Not so much.

So this is what I want you to do. Go to the comments section and tell me exactly where you are from in the country. Tell me if you would be inclined to come to a Dolphins Super Bowl celebration or not.

Now, I didn't ask if you'd be coming to the game. I know the tickets are expensive and hard to get. Grossman doesn't care about that anyway, she just needs folks that yearly come for the week of Super Bowl atmosphere and fun, filling the beds in local hotels. Whether those folks are in the stands on Super Bowl Sunday is moot.

Remember: Are you an out-of-town Dolphins fan? And would you trek to South Florida to join in the Dolphins Super Bowl celebration?

Is Grossman right to believe the Dolphins playing a home Super Bowl would be a nightmare? Or is she lacking vision?

I can also tell you that not everyone that goes to the super bowl is a fan of either team, many go because it is the place to be early Feb.

I live in Las Vegas Nevada and if the Dolphins make it to the super bowl I would do everything within my power to make it to that game.

I'm a die hard dolphins fan and I'm from Memphis..... If they go to the superbowl I'm going I already have tickets to the titans vs dolphins in December

Titans get they first win this weekend against pats

i am writing from the shelter .i will be there and i will ask my shelter manger if he can get free tickets for me and my brothers .

I live in Tennessee and have season tickets for the Fins! I have been to four of our five games so far, with the San Diego game the only one I didn't personally attend. I will deFINately be there when the Fins are in the Super Bowl!!!!!!!

Im a lifetime Fins fan here in the Tampa Bay area, 41yrs old. I would be there... NO DOUBT!

Not yet, Beerndrums, but we're getting there.

You guys are amazing. I'm tempted to go looking for Grossman's email and publish it here so you guys could show her the error of her thinking.

Anyway, keep it coming. And please be honest.

I understand these are tough times for many people economically. And so she's worried about her county. But sometimes facts are out there that these so-called experts in their field simply do not weigh. I believe this is an example.

Heidenheim, Germany.

From:Allentown,P.a Team:Dolphins Would I be there for Miami superbowl?Ya I'd find a way.But would not matter where they played,I'd still go.Bernie Pavlick

Manitou Colorado, if Dolphins make the super bowl, my family and I would most certainly be there!!!!

Been a Dolphin fan since 1972ish as a 7yr old boy growing up in Dallas. Go figure I didnt become a Cowboy fan during those great Cowboy teams of the 70 and 80's. I moved to Nj in 84 and saw my first Fins game against Jets. Live in South Carolina now and would be their in a heart beat to experience once in a life time chance event. GO fins and shock the world with this team.

I would volunteer to take punch from Mike Tyson just to see Dolphins in Super Bowl.

Those of you from P.a .Can you say PARTY EXPRESS?

i am coming even if i have my tent on the mount everest where i live for last 11 months,go jets .

I live in central calif
I took my 8 yr old daughter to the fin/ raider game ON HALLOWEEN about 10yrs ago (best time we've ever had at a game)!! There are about 30 fin fans in my town and some made the trip to canton for #13's HOF. so hell yea central Calif would be in S.Fl for a dolphin SB

I'm from Panama and I've been waiting for over 20 years to see the Dolphins play in a Super Bowl. If they make it, I don't care where it's going to be played, I'm definitely there!!!

I'm here in my cell at Rikers Island. I'd love to be there for the Super Bowl but I'm afraid I don't get out for another seven years. Maybe by then the game is back in So. Fla. and the Fins are in it.

By the way, Mando, you showd some balls with your commentary the other day. Don't let the punks get you down, big man. And if you ever need somebody to watch your back on the street, I'll be out in 7 and I volunteer.

i love to see fin fans dreaming and talk .
YOU GUYS CAN'T EVEN FILL 1/2 OF THE THE SEATS IN YOUR HOME GAMES BUT TALKING YOU R THE BEST SINCE IT DOESN'T COAST A DIME .

I have been a Dolphin fan since 1976 and have lived in Louisville Ky since 1969. I read the sports section of the Herald most days. I certainly would be in South Florida if the Dolphins made it to the Super Bowl.

Southwestern New York surrounded by Bills & Steelers fans. Dolphins fan since 1972. We see the Dolphins once a year up in Buffalo. It's not easy but we hold our heads up high with all of our Miami garb on. Traveled to S. Florida this year and made a dream come true and went to a home game. We would be there for the SB, but for now, one game at a time. Go Phins! Beat the Saints!

I live in Lansing, KS (just outside Kansas City, home of those awesome... I mean awful Chiefs). I would only come down if I had tickets but would stay with family some 3 hours away and drive in for the game. Otherwise, I would celebrate right here with my 4 kids who are all DolFans as well.

HI STRONG, are you coming for sure ?

i am defiteley a dolphin fan from way back and i live in delaware. moved from new jersey but in either state i would oome to the dolphin game and celebration.

Great article Armando, I'm a die-hard dolphins fan from Naples, Fl.

Keep up the great work Armando.

P.S. What about u permanently filling in that posistion at 790?
I would listen!

From Saratoga Springs, NY, and I would cut off my left arm if it meant I could attend a Superbowl with the Dolphins in it. If I could get tickets, I would be there for sure! And what a party it would be!

I read this this blog from San Francisco, CA, and if i could afford it, hell yes I would definitely make plans for a super bowl party. Times are tough at the moment so if they make it this year hopefully it won't be their last.

Graig,

you obviously never been to phins game. All games this year been sellouts and full while other teams like Jaguars, Raiders, Browns, Bengals, and even Chargers have problems with blackouts. Take your Jets fan, baseless attacks somewhere else where there are other idiots...

Mando, I'm in va and most definitely would trek to fl to see the fins.

Hell yeah, Been a Dolfan since 85, I'm from the UK but I'll be in Miami this Jan /Feb to sample the South Beach atmosphere Superbowl Sunday, trips already booked so if by some faint chance Miami makes it its a bonus.
Hopefully moving to Canada next year too but if/when Miami makes its next appearance in the Superbowl, I'm going!!!

I am currently a resident of San Diego.

I have been a Dolphins fan from the beginning, even though I was a kid in Ohio at the time. Then I lived in Fort Lauderdale for a dozen years and held season tickets at the Orange Bowl and what was then Joe Robbie Stadium.

I attended two Super Bowls in the 1980s in California, both losses by the Dolphins. So, hell yes, I would try to attend any Super Bowl that the Fins make!

And go back to school

I have been a dolpfan since Don Shula came to Miami. I have gone to games in the orange bowl, Joe Robbie, Pro-Player whatever you want to call LandShark! I live in NJ with many of my dolphfan friends and we would all come!!! GO FISH!!!!!!!

I am in NY and would be there. It has been over 25 years!!

That is retarded. First off she is ignoring the fact that the Superbowl is SOLD OUT way before the season. Regardless of where it is or who is in it, it is the SUPERBOWL: the largest sporting event in this country. Secondly, a team playing in its home stadium for the Superbowl rarely (if ever) happens. It would be a publicity orgy for an event that doesn't even need it. This woman needs to be fired as she is short-sided and obviously lacking understanding of the effects of hype, history being made, and the best damn football team in the world playin' a bowl in its own backyard. She reaks of blasphemy. I wouldn't let her back in the stadium unless her face was painted aqua and orange: braveheart style.

The fins are lookin good. Few tweaks and we could be great.

In Parcells we trust.

Let's go Fins!

Fins fan since '71 and I live in Charlotte. I would love to come to Miami to see the Dolphins in a Super Bowl.

I'll be wearing a Csonka jersey at the Panthers game in a few weeks. Yes, I'm one of those Fins fans you see at the away games.

BTW, I live in NY. Surrounded by the stench of Bills and Jets fans. I have bled aqua and orange since I could hold a football and would sell my house to attend a Fins bowl in Miami.

From State College, PA - and I'd sell my neighbor's child just to get to the game.

I live in Springfield, Illinois and have been a fan for about 25 year. I just remember getting some football cards and deciding Dan Marino was my favorite player and it just kind of took off from there. Favorite memory, Marino's fake spike comeback on the Jets. Worst memory, Pete Stoyanovich's miss and the loss to the Chargers in '94.

Arizona Dolphins Fan! Go Miami! I would love to see the Fins in the Superbowl.

atlanta, ga

donpzino,

all you fact are wrong.go sleep .

I live in j-ville fl, and travel to Homestead fl twice a yr to see Fam. And u damn right I'll be there if the Fish go.

I am from Phoenix AZ and would definetly make the trip for a week and go to the game. The last time the dolphins were in the super bowl was almost 30 years ago. They don't come around very often. So yes i'd be there.

Tucson, AZ. I'd probably take a road trip.

Another die-hard Dolphan in northern California. I drove to San Diego for game three this season and would certainly come out to Miami for a Superbowl appearance. Go Phins!

i am from france , i would bring 55 friends with me and pay for every thing for their tickets, food, sleep and spa .i love florida since i met my love sonny there .

I'm from Toronto, Canada. I would travel to Pluto to watch the Phins play in a Superbowl. So going to watch Miami play in Miami for a Superbowl is a gimme

I'm from NYC and have been a fan since '67. Should the Dolphin's make it to the big game, i'll be there!!!

A-man,Is this thing getting BIG?

You a celeb lol

i am from mongaolia and i live w/ strong donkeys up here but for my beloved fins i will leave all of them just for my team .

I am originally from Miami and am now living in Albuquerque, NM. Although I am surrounded by Bronco, Cowboys & Cardinals fans, there are a few hard core Dolphins fans out here who would make the trek to Miami to see them live in the Super Bowl. Of course, some of us have the advantage of staying with relatives but we will still spend our money on other things such as food and entertainment. It's a win win situation for tourism business.

I live in s fl and just to read that makes me mad!! My wife does NOT like football and she even says that's retarded!! Go Fins

Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will be in the house (stadium) and on the strip and on the beach and....!

Dolphin for life!!!!

I live in upstate NY, near Saratoga where Bill Parcels has a home. If the Phins made it that far I would make every effort to go.

I am from Maryland and have be coming to miami at least once a year since the 80's for a game. When they get to the super bowl, and I sure hope it will be this year, I WILL be there.

I'm from Springfield, Missouri. I would BE THERE!!! I promise you that. For both the game and the celebration afterwards! I read this blog daily and voyage to Miami at least once a year to watch them WIN! With the exception last year when they came to St. Louis and Kansas City! That was wonderful!

I was born in Hialeah, grew up in Hollywood, and now live in Birmingham, AL. Die-hard Fin's fan and travel to see them when they play the Titans in Nashville. Will be there again this year when we meet them and beat them at the end of the year!

We have been Dolphin fans since 1970. We live in the Tampa Bay area. Being Buc's fans was never an option. We would come for the festivities, but probably not get tickets to the game. We would enjoy what we could and love every minute of it!
