Brown's on IR, injuries mounting [updated]

We knew Ronnie Brown, nursing a potentially serious foot injury, wasn't going to play Thursday against the Carolina Panthers. Now we know he won't be playing against anyone else, either.

The Dolphins have placed Brown on injured reserve, meaning he is out for the remainder of the season, according to a soure. This decision was reached within the last 35 minutes as Brown is currently in Charlotte with the team.

The Dolphins landed in Charlotte at approximately 6 p.m. [Update: The Dolphins have now confirmed the move.]

The move is a crushing blow for the Dolphins hopes to repeat as AFC East champions. Brown is their leading rusher (648 yards), their leading scorer (8 TDs), and the triggerman to their Wildcat package.

Ricky Williams now must pick up the slack for the considerable loss. This marks the second time in three seasons that Brown is placed on IR midway through the season. In 2007, Brown was averaging 5 yards per carry when he suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Brown recovered well enough in 2008 to lead the team in rushing and earn his first Pro Bowl berth.

The Dolphins have signed safety Nate Ness from the team's practice squad to fill Brown's roster spot.

We also know nose tackle Paul Soliai (ankle), tight end Anthony Fasano (hip) and linebacker Erik Walden (hamstring) also will not play against Carolina.

The Dolphins announced as much on their injury report today. It is the final report prior to the game. None of the players that are out will travel today to Charlotte.

The Dolphins are listing two players as questionable: Guard Justin Smiley (shoulder) and safety Tyrone Culver (ankle). Smiley will play a source tells me. He practiced full today. Culver suffered a tweaked ankle in practice and was limited in his participation. Although listed the same as Smiley, his status is less certain.

Safety Gibril Wilson, nursing a hamstring, is listed as probable. He will play.

The Panthers are also quite beat up as game day looms.

We already knew cornerstone left tackle Jordan Gross was out for the remainder of the season with a broken ankle.

Safety Charles Godfrey (ankle), FB Brad Hoover (ankle) and DE Charles Johnson (pectoral muscle) are listed as doubtful. None of the three practiced Wednesday.

DT Damione Lewis (shoulder), RB Jonathan Stewart (Achilles), and RB DeAngelo Williams (knee) are listed as questionable. Lewis and Stewart practiced on Wednesday. Williams did not practice. All three are expected to play.

Porter got shut down versus backup LT on Pats... sad but true

Posted by: carlito from golfito | November 18, 2009 at 03:24 PM

If you watched the Colts/Pats game Freeney got shut down by that back up laeft tackle as well, so should he get all the blame as well like Porter?

To prove my point about Freeney getting shut down by the back up left tackle, here is a link to his stats from Sunday:

This is the first game all year Freeney recorded a ZERO across the board...should he be critcized like Porter? Also, Freeney is playing healthy and Porter has been battling his injury...

Porter is playing thru injury and that has affected his play. also he is 32. last year miami lined porter up EVERYWHERE on the field. he always attacked from different spots. now he is only taking on the left tackle and is getting shut down. losing Ronnie sucks and is a huge blow to miami's offense. his pass blocking will be sorely missed on 3rd and long.

I already answer this same question earlier in the blog. Yes the pats rookie backup LT from Germany has been playing well, but that is still no excuse for Porter after so much talking, he's got to hand his business against a rookie, backup... that is his job.

Why Ronnie?

I hope this not his last game as a Dolphin.

what about using pat white in the backfield like reggie bush in new orleans. he'd be on the field so when it is time for the wildcat it won't be so obvious anymore.

I repeat, playoffs, you have to be joking, they'll be lucky to finish 8-8, sorry carloser-o.

bobby clobber get back to shining shoes and speak when you spoken to shine boy

Run Ricky Run, one of the nices foot player to ever play this game. Ricky for president. So what he likes the natural stuff, a briliat guy if you asked me, he choosed the right stuff matches hes persona. Run Ricky run, at least hes not a crak head

I agree with this post -

The Strength and Conditioning Coaches need to sit down and figure out what's going on with this teams Poor Conditioning Level (especially when it comes to mid-way through the 3rd and all of the 4th).

After all, this is only a very violent game with oversized men hitting each other all game long and often in awkward and unnatural positions. So, can anyone explain why we have so many injuries when the rest of the NFL is perfectly healthy?

I agree,

Run Ricky run.

Playoffs , you are joking , right?

Tennessee, Green Bay, and the patties will kill that ill conceived notion, I dare say.

Bobby, believe it or not the Fins are still in the playoff hunt. It is quite possible for the Fins to go 5-2 the rest of the way and sneak in at 9-7.

What other teams in the AFC are a lock for one of those 3 Wild Card spots? Pittsburgh and San Diego (assuming Denver wins the West). So the Fins are up against the Ravens, Texans and Jaguars all at 5-4 right now. It's possible, not probable, the Fins could get in.

Dolphins don't play Green Bay and Tennessee sucks.

Because Lex Hilliard is better than you think, watch tonight. Running the ball is about the oline doing its job and pushing people around. Great oline= anyone can run the ball!!

Thank you for each and every post. I am a life time Phin Fan from TN and enjoy your insight on the Dolphins from a local perspective. Most of these posters do not realize how fortunate they are to live in a Championship community and be filled with All Pros and their influence on their community. Yes we have the Titans with one magical season, but, boring at best and Vanderbilt (need I say more). I understand the fans down their are passionate, but, wish they would appreciate the heritage of the Dolphins and enjoy watching the current Dolphins rebuild that past Glory. Think for a minute how this team compares to the teams of the early 70's. Power Running, Stingy defense. We are not exactly Griese, Czonka, Warfield, Mandich, Morris and Kick or the no-name Defense, but, we are getting close (we are missing a Warfield,a Mandich, a Kuechenberg-LG and a few no-names on Defense- ILB,FS, NT). I have had more fun this year watching the Current Dolphins evolve and I see the Dolphins of the Early 70's reincarnating before my eyes. Awesome!!!!

Not having the NFL network bites. Anyone have a link for tonight's game?

Cup half full:

Since we were not going anywhere this season we now get to see how good our backup running backs are and Ronnie will cost less next year

Pat White Will get killed running the wild cat there is no way he can handle the constant pounding. A play here or there maybe but as much as Ronnie ran the wildcat, No Way. I doubt that most QB's couldn't handle all that pounding not to mention a 190lb QB...White is definately a good athlete but has far to go to be a decent QB in the NFL. Lets face it Henne gets hurt right now and Thigpen will be the starter as he has more experience and is more of a capable QB "RIGHT NOW".In my opinion he is more suitable to play reciever "RIGHT NOW"...I think wildcat is out the door because the phins don't have the personal available to run it efficeintly. I agree with the posters that are saying we will see more of a conventional offense against the Panthers maybe some spread out of the shotgun formation and it will probably be with White but I think The Phins would get better results if the Phins used Thigpen in the spread instead of White. IMO White is just not ready, is he talented? hell yeah but he is not ready to be behind center....IMO I think we will be fine Ricky is running Good the run blocking has not changed and if we can protect Henne we should be fine against both the Panthers and the Bills.

Go Phins

Phins 17
Panthers 10

def need to find out why all the injuries. We were very healthy last year due to this training team. This year not so good. Injuries are part of the game but very funny how many ankles and hamstrings we have had this year. So maybe we need to exercise and build up those muscles some more.
